The Velvet Ants
"High quality picks at a great price. I never play a show without them." -Ian
The Velvet Ants were formed in 2006 outside of Washington, D.C., by Ian Margolycz and Trevor Hart. The band self-produced their debut album *Lunatic Frame* in 2007, blending alternative rock and punk influences into a raw, energetic sound. Their sophomore release, *Advantage* (2012), marked a creative leap forward with the involvement of renowned producer Ken Stringfellow of The Posies.
Following Trevor Hart’s departure in 2013, Margolycz began working on a third album, *Solt Olio*, alongside acclaimed musician and producer Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker the Star). With Zadorozny on drums and Eric Sakmar on bass, the new rhythm section brought depth to a record that spanned acoustic textures, dance rhythms, and heavier rock elements.
In 2014, Margolycz returned to his native New England and reformed the band. In 2015, he teamed up with bassist and vocalist Bing Quiogue to revisit and re-record overlooked tracks from the band’s earlier catalog. The result, *Blacklight Press* (2016), showcased a diverse sonic palette—from indie pop to punk—infused with lush harmonies and once again produced by Zadorozny, who also played drums.
Drummer Jonah McBride joined as a permanent member in early 2017, and live rehearsals commenced in preparation for upcoming performances. In 2019, the band released their fifth full-length album, *Arrows Always*, featuring contributions from Jordon Zadorozny, Ken Stringfellow, Eric Sakmar, Dave MacDonald, and Lizzie London.
After an eight-year hiatus, The Velvet Ants reunited in 2025, reigniting their creative momentum and welcoming back Christopher Barry on bass guitar.
