Which White?

Over the years, Clayton, USA has added more and more pick options to our custom guitar pick line. I have realized that, currently, we offer five different white guitar pick options for custom printing, and some of you may be wondering which white pick material will be best for you?

Here is a quick guide to help you out!

1. White Delrin Picks: These are basic, bright white picks, similar to tortex material. They have a semi-gloss finish. They work best with dark, bright, and bold colors for custom designs. Black print is the best for this material.

2. Acetal Picks: Some customers choose acetal for custom picks because they have already tried our regular Clayton acetal picks and love them! Acetal picks are professional grade; known for having an excellent grip to them. They work well with a variety of colors for designs, as long as the shades are not too light. They are semi-transparent, so you want to keep this in mind for two-sided designs. They also can support full bleed backgrounds (except black) and photos.

3. Eco Picks: Eco picks are playable guitar picks, though they are not as durable as some of our other materials because they are a biodegradable plastic. However, if you are getting picks purely for promotional use, or give-aways, they are awesome because they can support absolutely ANY artwork. We have done photos, light color shades, high detail designs, and full coverage backgrounds, and they always turn out beautifully on Eco material!

4. White Pearl Picks: Our white pearl material is distinctive because it is marbleized, and has a glossy finish. These picks also work great with a wide variety of colors and can support light color shades (even light grey). You will just want to be aware that the marbleized quality will show through in the design that is printed on them (unless it is black print).

5. Carbonate Picks: Carbonate material is plain white, like white delrin, but with a gloss finish like white pearl. Carbonate, like white delrin, works best with bright and bold colors for the designs. We offer carbonate picks as our less-than-100 pick option… You can get custom carbonate picks in sets of 30 or 60, while our other white pick options have a minimum order quantity of 100.

Tattoo Your Picks

Getting a custom printed design on your guitar picks is just about the same as tattooing them, and this design especially reminded me of an awesome tattoo! The colors are so vibrant, and they are perfect against the background of our white delrin guitar picks. Our white delrin material is a flat, very bright white so it always makes bright colors in designs really stand out! This customer also utilized our full bleed design option so that the art on the picks goes all the way to the very edge, instead of having a border around it. To order your own custom ink “tattoo” picks, visit www.claytoncustom.comScatter today!

Blacklist Union

We loved these custom guitar picks made for the band Blacklist Union. Black and red Blacklistis always a classic design color scheme, and it looks fantastic on our white delrin guitar pick material. Their design has a fair amount of detail on it, but it turned out really clear and easy to see, even on the small guitar picks.

Blacklist Union is a Los Angeles based band touring on their 3rd cd called “until death do us part”.  They have been in the game for 8 years and will be touring most of 2013 in the Midwest and East Coast.  Their singer Tony West sang and toured with LA Guns, which lead him to form his own band when LA Guns decided to take a break.  They play from the heart rock and roll influenced by Mother Love Bone to Guns & Roses!  Their live show is full of energy and they have been receiving rave reviews! Check out www.blacklistunion.com for a full bio and to download music. The custom picks were ordered by bassist Erik Hatchett, and he testifies that he “will only use Clayton picks because their tone and durability surpass the rest!” Thanks Erik!!

Pick of the Week — Captain Ivory

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Captain Ivory; a Detroit-based, high energy rock band, that is putting their own spin on Motor City Rock N’ Roll.  The group pulls inspiration from many different rock artists, including Led Zeppelin, the Kings of Leon, and fellow Detroiter Jack White.  The combination of many different styles and genres makes their live show something to behold, and the band is quickly gaining traction in the Midwest.  They just completed a live album recorded all in one take at Groovebox Studios, Detroit.  The songs, along with videos and other information can be found on their website: http://captainivory.com

The Captain Ivory guitar picks were made on our white delrin pick material, and we appreciated the high level of detail and artistic quality in their logo. To order your own custom printed guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Aidan Brody

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for musician Aidan Brody. Aidan is a 15 year old guitarist from the Washington, DC area. He has been playing guitar for about 5 or 6 years, and he has been using only custom Clayton picks for the last several years! Aidan performs regularly with local blues artists and has toured with an elite group of the best young musicians in the country, the School of Rock AllStars. He is currently writing and recording music, and hopes to release it in the near future. Aidan says that he has been heavily influenced by blues, rock, jazz, fusion, and soul music, and he combines all of these styles to create his own unique sound.

Find out more about Aidan’s work on the web: http://www.aidanbrody.com/ or on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/aidanbrodymusic/videos?view=0&flow=grid

Aidan’s custom guitar picks were made on our white delrin material, and we really love the intricacy and detail in the artwork. The opposite side of the pick lists Aidan’s name and his website, along with the Clayton logo since he is one of our endorsed artists!

“Emerging from the ashes of recently passed Ever Divine, the band has come back with a new line up and a whole new set. With Garrin Beaudoin and Michael Martin on guitar, Jeremy Novakowski on bass, Phil Del Vecchio on drums, and Justin Chard on vocals, the band, formed in 2011, is tearing up Arizona’s metal scene.”

Behind the name:  Ella Kaye is a character in the book “The Great Gatsby”.  Dan Cody’s last will gave Jay Gatsby a 25,000 inheritance, but Ella Kaye manages to use the court system against Jay to the win the money for herself.  Because of this, Jay sees Ella as a gold digger.

Pick of the Week — Brothers N Arms

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Brothers N Arms. “Brothers N Arms is a Texas power trio that is tearing up the regional rock scene. Started in 2010 from a simple online ad, they have blown up to be one of Texas’ up-and-coming rock bands. Daniel and Jesse are the two members of the band who ‘wield these great custom made picks by Clayton USA.'”

“Brothers N Arms was conceived in central Texas when the Vines brothers got together to jam with bassist, Jesse James. The three realized from that first day that they had enough common ground musically to start a new project. As the weeks passed, the trio placed the framework for a powerful project that became known as Brothers N Arms. The sound of the group is a blend of influences that range from Metallica to POD, from Nirvana to Zeppelin.”

Kid-inspired

We had to feature this design for custom picks because the team at Clayton all loved it! It is a very youthful, colorful design with the catchphrase “Doin’ It My Way” and it reminded us that it is very important to encourage kids to pursue their musical interests! If you know a young person who is just starting to get interested in guitar playing, custom picks are a great way to get them extra excited about following their dreams! We can print all types of designs on picks, so you can even scan in a design that a child has created to really give that special touch that lets them know they are a rock star. The holidays are coming and custom picks are awesome stocking stuffers! Order your custom picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — Zombie Suckers

Now that Halloween is upon us, we have the perfect Pick of the Week to feature!
“From the bottomless pit of monsters they came, climbing up to the surface of earth in August of 2007. They’ve been through a lot, they lost a lot of blood along the way forming what is now an extremely deadly combination of killer machines. With Alex E. Cute on vocals, Captain Morgue and ZZ on guitars, Crippler on the bass, Six Feet Unders on drums and the villain known as Dr. B. Careless on the percussion and sampler they form Sweden’s scariest horror-machine known as Zombiesuckers.

With the urge to play fierce and powerful horrorpunk they set their goal to conquer, scare and entertain the citizens of this planet. With a plan to fright, bite and fight their way to the top they create music with a lot of attitude, horror and large sense of humour making it a great combination of what any ear should expose itself to.

But beware, some people say their songs are so awesome they kill you while you sleep. So remember, only a headshot kills a zombie.”

Find out more about Zombiesuckers on their official websites:

The creepy cool Zombiesuckers picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, and we love the detail and colors of their horrorific artwork. Visit www.claytoncustom.com today to start creating your own electrifying custom picks!

Pick of the Week — Strip the Stars

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Strip the Stars. Formed in Denver in late 2010, Strip the Stars brings together fellow musicians David Frisbie on vocals, Brett Walston on guitar, Miles Marlin on bass, and Leo Zayas on drums. Drawing comparisons to Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, and Alice in Chains, the full shake-you-to-your-bones sound of this quartet puts the fire in your belly and the roar in your speakers. It only took a few hours of jamming together for STS to discover the formula for their own brand of purebred hook-driven rock. Not content to wear out the same old local dives and wait for fate’s knock on the door, Strip the Stars is shredding through new mediums and conventions focusing their attention on the bigger picture. Strip the Stars is a band that will not be denied. STS’ 9-song debut release is sure to win fans and make it’s mark on the Front Range and beyond. The album was recorded and engineered by David Frisbie at Audiopurple Studios in Denver, CO and mixed and mastered at Progression Lab Studios in San Antonio, TX by Cult To Follow and former Union Underground frontman Bryan Scott. With full throttle guitar riffs, aggressive drums, melodic bass lines and soaring vocal melodies, Strip the Stars aims to keep the snarl in the razor-sharp grin of hard rock.

The Strip the Stars picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, using a full bleed (meaning that the design goes all the way to the edge of the picks instead of having a border). We loved the colors and detail of their design! To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — Way Cool Jr.

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Way Cool Jr., an 80’s rock tribute act that is based in Southern California. They have performed alongside many great bands such as Guns ‘n’ Roses, Blue Oyster Cult, Steppenwolf,  Bad Company, etc. They replicate the energy and look of the 80’s in its most decadent form! The member of the band who ordered the guitar picks from Clayton is Phi Nguyen. He was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States during a time of strife in his home country. He was given his 1st guitar  at the age of 13 after his father passed away and he never stopped playing from that day on. He idolized Kiss and emulated them. You can find out more about Way Cool Jr. on YouTube…or through their site at www.waycooljr.net.

The Way Cool Jr. picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which makes the bright colors in their design really pop! Order your own custom picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — Caramelos De Cianuro/UnEnano

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for UnEnano, a guitar player in the Latin band Caramelos de Cianuro, from Venezuela. The band was formed in 1991. They recorded their first songs, “Nadando a Través De la Galaxia” (Swimming Across the Galaxy) and “Tu Mamá Te Va a Pegar” (Your mom is going to hit you), in 1992.

A year later, the group signed up to CNR and released an EP called Las Paticas de la Abuela (Grandma’s Little Feet), followed by the band’s first album, Cuentos Para Adultos (Tales for Adults), in 1994. Performing a mixture of Latin Punk and alternative rock, Caramelos de Cianuro returned in 1996 with Harakiri City, released by Polygram. Two years later, original drummer Pablo Martínez was replaced by Alfonso Tosta, and the group soon toured with Colombian band Aterciopelados. In 2000 they released their album Miss Mujerzuela (Miss Whore), which achieved platinum status in Venezuela in 2001. In 2006 they released their second most recent album, Flor De Fuego, (Flower of Fire) with “Como Serpiente” (Like Snake) promoted as the lead off single. In the year 2010 the group released their latest album “Caramelos de Cianuro”.

To find out more about Caramelos de Cianuro, visit their site at http://www.caramelosdecianuro.net

UnEnano’s guitar picks were made out of our white delrin pick material. One one side the picks have UnEnano’s name with a pair of wings, which was inspired by the wing tattoos on his back. On the other side, there is a thumbprint that marks exactly where he holds the picks when he plays, which we thought was very clever! Pick of the Week — Lovely Goodbye

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Lovely Goodbye. Lovely Goodbye began as a rock band comprised of four friends from the hills of Appalachia in Johnson City, Tennessee. Coming together from Classic Rock, Punk, Country, and Progressive backgrounds, Lovely Goodbye has evolved from each member’s influences into one of East Tennessee’s premiere original bands. All the members sought to keep the the core principles of the best music alive: professionalism, fun, and a quality live show. The best rock artists combine anthem-like lyrics, a voice that clings to the edge of strong guitar riffs and progressions, and a tight rhythm section that marches the listener through the album and back to the beginning, ready for more. Opening for many national touring acts, they saved up enough to record and released their debut Self Titled album in 2010, with a follow-up expected in 2012. Recently, the band has added a rhythm guitarist to let singer, Sean McCurry, focus his attention on fully being a frontman and entertainer.

Lovely Goodbye is Sean McCurry, Jeff Dotson, Brandon Lambert, Bryan Gibson, and Max Crawford

Pick of the Week — The Darlins

This week’s Pick of the Week was created for the band The Darlins. “In September of 2008, singer/songwriter and founding member of her former LA based duo, The Darlins, Portland- born guitarist, Jude Toy, asked co-worker and fellow singer/songwriter and Nashville native, Erinn Bates, if she wanted to write and perform together around town. From the first writing appointment, they knew they had something special. Jude’s rocking acoustic guitar and harmonies blended harmoniously with Erinn’s bluegrass-tinged lead vocals and mandolin. In 2009, The Darlins were reborn and opened for country stars Darryl  Worley and Andy Griggs and were asked to take part in the Music City showcase, Alabama Line. Their rootsy harmony-riched sound has helped them play venues like Music City Roots and The Bluebird Cafe as well as have their original songs placed on network television. Listen for their songs on The Sportsman’s Channel’s Dead Dog Walking and The Syndicate as well as ABC’s GCB. To find out more about The Darlins, visit their site at http://www.thedarlins.com/. The Darlins’ picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which makes their hot pink logo really stand out! Create and order your own custom guitar picks at www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Tryst

This week’s Pick of the Week was designed and ordered by Charlton Young for his band, Tryst. Tryst, is a “top 40” acoustic cover band.  They play a lot of the newer pop songs that are coming out and do a lot of mash ups with songs you would never think to mash up.  Their influences include Chevelle, Howie Day, Boyce Avenue, Cee-lo green, Jason Derulo, Oasis, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Pink, and Ke$ha. The band has been around for a few years, but Charlton joined just a couple months ago after their guitar player left without any notice and forced them to cancel a bunch of gigs.  Charlton says that this set-back upset a lot of bar and club owners, so it has been difficult for Tryst to get back into the scene, but slowly they are getting back out there.  Find out more about Tryst on their website at www.tryst-chicago.com

Tryst’s custom guitar picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, and the bright white really makes their vibrant red logo “pop!” To create and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — The Bobcats

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band The Bobcats; a rockabilly band from Long Island, NY formed in 2009. Their name came from the fact that four of the original five members were named Bob (their original drummer, Mike, suggested the name). They play covers from the early Sun Records days to the present, including some original songs. They strive for an authentic sound with a little bit of an edge, with the powerful vocals of Rob Walker, two guitars of Bobby Koleba and Bob Muller, driving drums of Scott Wallace and the stand-up bass of Dennis Caserta. Their logo was designed by lead guitarist Bobby Koleba and was created for them by a local artist named June H. Blair. The guitars featured on the logo are the main guitars used by Bob Muller, who ordered the custom picks, and Bobby Koleba (a Gretsch Hot Rod and a Gretsch Double Anniversary).
Here at Clayton, we liked the detail of the band’s logo and how the bright colors stood out really well on our white delrin pick material.

Trapped in Static

Trapped In Static is an alternative rock/indie band based in New York City formed by singer/musician/songwriter Athan Hilaki (previously with GAD.). The band first started using the name Trapped In Static in October 2010 with Athan on vocals & guitar but a different line-up. After a small break, the band is back with a new line-up, Athan Hilaki on vocals, guitar & keyboards, David Torres on drums and Peter Douskalis on guitar & keyboards, joined on stage by George Kostopoulos (bass). Pick of the Week — Chasing Mona

For the Pick of the Week this week, we chose a design created for the band Chasing Mona. “Chasing Mona is a local Kitsap County cover band specializing in classic rock covers, rockabilly favorites, and ‘paying homage to the hat’ country. Branded by their signature black and white Chuck Taylors, a profound commitment and respect for our military, and their buxom flirtatious mascot Mona that can be seen on the cover of the bass drum lit up by a spotlight, Chasing Mona is all about bringing the fun, the funk, and the history of music to the stage with every performance. One of the single greatest accomplishments of this band is their ability to pack a venue and get invited back again and again. Without a doubt, Chasing Mona is one of the busiest cover bands in Kitsap County. They are currently breaking into the casino scene and getting rave reviews from all around.” Find out more about the band at http://www.chasingmonaband.com/ and http://www.reverbnation.com/chasingmonaband. Chasing Mona’s picks were made on our white delrin material, which was the best to support their full color graphic and really make the red and black colors pop against the bright white background. To create and order your own custom guitar picks today, visit www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — The Mojo Tones

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the blues band, The Mojo Tones. “The Mojo Tones started out as four friends just getting together, playing Blues and Blues-Rock songs for the fun of it.  Mike (drums) initiated things by asking Billy (guitar) if he’d be interested in doing a Blues project, just for fun, just because. Billy says, “One thing led to another, word got out, and suddenly, we were playing gigs by word of mouth.” Mike knew a singer/harmonica player in Joe (Vocals & Harp) that loved the Blues, and they had a friend that played bass. That bass player was Will, and with his musical background, things meshed together quite well. After a few years, Will had to tend to family matters, and through Will, Gerald was welcomed in on bass. Gerald has years of playing under his belt, and is a perfect fit.
Billy says, “I think the last thing the Musical World needs is yet-another Blues band playing endless shuffles, or their versions of Stevie Ray Vaughan songs. We mix genres, a 1940’s Blues classic with a modern blues-rock re-write…Country Blues, ala Robert Johnson, but with electrified Dobro through an amp, or playing Hendrix with harmonica, Dylan with a Dobro, a John Lee Hooker-influenced slide-guitar twist of Rolling Stones classic…even Motorhead, just because it was fun. No rules, no taking ourselves too seriously.” Mike went from a regular drum kit, resized to just a kick and snare with a couple of cymbals, trading in his sticks for a pair of brushes…minimalist to the bone. Just picture Motorhead with brushes…With Mike, less is more, and his ability to groove with the song shows it. “Some of the places we play require a lot less volume than regular clubs, so I started using a 5 watt guitar amp, even a 1watt amp, because the club requires a limit on volume level. My guitar-playing friends think I’m crazy…” Even Joe’s harp amp went down to 5 watts or 1 watt, depending on the gig. Joe uses different effects with his harp: distortion, Leslie, phasing, flanging, echo…anything to sound different.
The Blues is a great teacher, and it will teach you that what feels right, isright.  The Mojo Tones mix genres, within songs, playing Country Blues with Blues Rock, Jump Blues with Jazz, without any of the high-brow sensibilities. It still comes down to four friends playing music, for the love of music…” To find out more about The Mojo Tones, visit their facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mojo-Tones/149174077686. The Mojo Tones’ picks were made on our white delrin material, which was perfect to enhance their red logo and give that classic “Coca Cola” look. Amourous Art

Hey Clayton customers! Check out these cool designs that are being submitted by some of our other customers! Both of these picks were designed for weddings, and we love how creative they are! Both are two-sided designs. The top pick design was made on our white pearl material, with full bleed art that almost covers the entirety of the pick, so it gives the appearance of being golden on one side and pink on the other. Of course, both sets of picks display the couple’s name and the wedding date. The second pick design is on our white delrin material, which really makes the red color of the tree pop. Both pick sets will be great as wedding favors that can tie into the wedding theme and impress guests with originality. Are you planning a 2012 wedding? Having played shows and festivals alongside the biggest up and coming bands supporting the likes of Young Guns, The Blackout, My Passion, Lower Than Atlantis, Wheatus and Transfer, AFFTC released their debut single in May 2011 Don’t Say Goodbye mixed and mastered by famous Matty O’Grady (You Me At Six/Bring Me The Horizon producer) to whet the appetite of their fans for the forthcoming debut album.

Pick of the Week — 80hD

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band 80hD, “which was formed this summer in order to perform at their North St. Paul, MN high school reunion.  They pulled together four people who graduated in the same year, which was no easy task, considering most of them had not jammed in a long, long time.  And their vocalist, although an accomplished singer, had never been in a band!  The reunion was a success and they decided to continue with their little experiment. A few months later, Bob (guitar) hosted a huge party which included having an opportunity to play at a local bar called the Dugout Bar in Mahtomedi, MN.  Several hundred of their closest friends and family came out to the show – it was a huge success for 80hD and the Dugout Bar! Today, they are playing gigs and drawing crowds none of them could have ever imagined 5 months ago.  Their fan base is already insanely loyal and is growing by the day.  They are having an absolute blast!  Their logo was designed by a high school friend/graphics designer/musician.  And frankly, everyone that sees it says the same thing – “that is an awesome band logo dude!”
80hD is a 5 piece cover band with a female vocalist.  Their music ranges from acoustic KT Tunstall and Amy Winehouse, to full on rock with Van Halen, Pantera, Poison, Blondie, and Nirvana, to name a few.  Their fans enjoy the fact that their lead vocalist can reach such diverse musical ranges, while at the same time creating a pure rock ‘n roll experience!
80hD brings 100% energy and an emphasis of fun to every show they do -they ensure that their audience feels like they are they true rock stars :)”  Their Website: theband80hd.com Their Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/theband80hd. Here is a testimony from guitarist Bob, who ordered the custom guitar picks for the band: “I was looking to purchase customized guitar picks for our new band 80hD, and simply did a Google search to find the company.  The ease-of-use of the design interface allowed me to quickly create, design, and purchase our unique pick.  And the subsequent customer service has been tremendous…thank you!” -Bob  The 80hD guitar picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which worked out really well with their full color logo.  To order your own customized picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
