Pick of the Week — The Chin’s Mojo

The band that designed this week’s Pick of the Week is Chin’s Mojo. The following is a bio on the band, given by band member Tom Jordan: “The band is named after Chin, a human skull that was purchased on ebay. It’s a real skull, and we made a joke once about its magic powers, then proceeded to win a 3 night battle of the bands and re-named the band after him. Since that time (4 years ago), we’ve published various action shots from Chin’s possible history that feature his magic powers; such as bursting from a pyramid to punish the non believers, being worshiped by a monk, and, most recently, saving the world and Santa from spacemen. The band performs all original rock; our CD is sold on our website and Amazon.com. We’ve toured regionally in support of our CD, “The Mighty Chin’s Mojo”. We perform with a huge computer controlled light and laser show, including a guitar with Chin’s image that emits lasers and lots of lights. The guitar pick we’re discussing is a portion of the “Chin vs aliens” photo, shown below. This is Tom’s third Chin pick design; he orders a new pick design each year from Steve Clayton and the fans love them!” Make friends with The Chin’s Mojo at chinlovesme.com. Their creative and colorful pick design was done on Clayton, Inc., acetal material picks. Pick of the Week — Natalie Wattre

This week’s Pick of the Week was created by musician Natalie Wattré. “Natalie came up as a musician in the LA band the Extinct. She was one of the 2 large contributors of songs to the bands extensive repertoire. In the mid 1990’s the Extinct was signed to Sony Publishing. In 1997 Natalie left the Extinct and soon after found that she was more inclined to the independent way of life which lead to the beginning of Swirly Girl Records. Critics have said that her voice is ‘reminiscent of Janis Joplin’, ‘akin to the Tracy Chapman/Joan Armatrading school of throaty, emotional expression.’, ‘Emotionally driven’ and ‘Vocals that hold nothing back’. Her songwriting has been described as ‘Storytelling that makes the listener realize the unapparent realities of their surroundings. Music of reminiscence. Music to base your life on.'” Find out more about Natalie and her music at www.NatalieWattre.com. Natalie’s very classy pick design was produced on our acetal rounded triangle pick material. Pick of the Week — The M-80s

This week’s Pick of the Week design is a cool Americana logo for The M-80’s, done on our white pearl guitar pick material. Here is some info about the band, submitted by bassist/vocalist Michael Weidenbach: “The M-80s have been one of Clayton’s endorsed bands for a while now, but like many bands, we’ve been putting off ordering the custom guitar picks we really wanted. We finally submitted the order, and now we can’t wait for the delivery to arrive! We’re a 1980s-era tribute band from the Birmingham, Alabama area, and we play the rock & pop hits from the ’80s…the golden age of MTV.  We cover the popular styles & artists from the era, like The Cars and The Knack up through Madonna and The Go-Gos, all the way to Poison and Bon Jovi.  Authentic arrangements, tight harmonies, a surefire song list, high energy performances, and a sense of fun are what set us apart from your average rock band.  Especially the fun part…you just can’t take yourself too seriously when you play this stuff.” Band members include: Danielle Hardaman – Vocals; Michael Weidenbach – Bass, Vocals; Mike Tucker – Guitar, Vocals; Glenn Freeman – Keys, Guitar, Vocals; and Steve Lucas – Drums. Their website is:    www.M-80s.com and you can also find them on Facebook:  www.facebook.com/80srock

Pick of the Week — MESSER

This week’s Pick of the Week is an awesome, high-detail design submitted by the band MESSER. Here is some info about them from their Reverbnation site:

“MESSER started writing late July 2009. With only a handful of shows since then, the Dallas, Texas, group has raised the attention of industry and fans alike by the lightning fast rise of popularity, both locally and nationally. Although some bands prefer not to be compared to anyone, MESSER finds that fans of Soundgarden’s candor, Velvet Revolver’s swagger and the grind of Motley Crue’s music are taking notice. Their music can be described as a nod to the 90’s, with their roots firmly planted in the present, while still honing their original sound for 2011 and beyond. Together Javier Contreras – Guitar/Vocals, Dereak – Lead vocals, Kenn Youngar – Drums, and Maddox – Bass/Vocals, provide somewhat of a local super group assault on the senses.” Find out more about MESSER at reverbnation.com/messer. The pick shown is a red delrin pick, in a .50mm gauge, rounded triangle shape. Design your own custom picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — Manifest Destiny

This week’s Pick of the Week is for Manifest Destiny, a band made up of longtime fans of The Dictators who never got a chance to see them live due to the geographic (and perhaps cultural) isolation of Fresno, CA. Comprised of local longtime musicians, Manifest Destiny (www.manifestdestinyrocks.com) is a musical tribute to The Dictators which aims to save rock and roll, or have the most fun failing in the attempt. Their genre definition is Rock, Rock & Roll, Proto-Punk, Post-Glam Rock, The Missing Link. Band members include Marvelous Jonny Manbeef (vocals), Zinck (guitar), Essé (drums), Squink (bass), Ross The Boss Too (guitar). They have an upcoming show too, on May 14th! Check them out on Facebook at:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Manifest-Destiny-A-Tribute-to-The-Dictators/135507956517828. Pick of the Week — Megan Redmond

This week’s featured pick was created for country music artist and songwriter Megan Redmond,  from Denver, CO. She has a beautiful design with great colors that turned out really well on our acetal picks.  Here is some information about Megan’s work, taken from her website: “Megan’s vocal strength and sound have been compared to a young Faith Hill with a pinch of Alison Krauss.  Megan’s music, and the covers she chooses, lean towards creating a fun, energetic emotional experience that all her fans can personally relate to. At only 15 years old, Megan Redmond is already making an impressionable impact on Nashville’s songwriting community.  Her ability to write radio-ready material to the likes of veteran Nashville songwriters has earned her the opportunities to collaborate with some of country music’s best.  A historical comparison is being made to the age and development of the songwriting strengths and ability of Taylor Swift.  Her songwriting skills are being sought by seasoned songwriters to bring her youthful relevance, energy, and creativity. Megan’s youthful spirit, combined with her mature sound and lyrical prowess, will be a fan favorite for audiences of all ages.  The only thing missing is her driver’s license. Megan has performed at numerous fairs and festivals around Colorado , and a number of renowned Nashville venues, as both an artist and songwriter. These venues include the world famous Bluebird Café,  12th and Porter, The Listening Room, and  many others. Megan’s fans and Nashville’s music business community are surprised when they find out just how mature and talented this teenager is.  Her stage presence and vocals, the depth of her songwriting, and her incredible focus and drive set her apart from the rest.” Visit http://www.meganredmond.com to learn more! Pick of the Week — The Whiners Band

This week’s Pick of the Week is for a band called “The Whiners.” The design was printed on our acetal picks, and we liked how they used a full bleed option to put their logo on the top half of the pick. Here is a little info about the band, taken from their website: “Jamie and Keith are The Whiners. Consider them NOS. NOS? Musicians who are into equipment and gear will know NOS means “New Old Stock”. They are based in Toronto, and they were originated by Keith in 1998. The band’s a wee bit aggressive-folk sounding, often stepping into a harder electric sound.  The lads create original & sometimes quirky tunes with occasional covers to taste. Perhaps: “rockfolk-folkrock-alt-countryblues”. Ah, let’s just call it ‘whinersmusic.'” To find out more about The Whiners, or to check out their album, Happy Accident, visit www.thewhinersband.com. Adelaide is a metal band from Chicago IL composed of four high school seniors.  They started 3 years ago and are playing some awesome shows. Last year they competed against several bands in a “battle of the bands” competition for the genre of metal and won… they were titled “Winners of 2010 Metal night” and Kings of metal. The demand to see their band live is increasing every show and has given them the thought of possibly going on a Midwest tour this summer. They are on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/officialadelaide) and are currently working on their official website which is under construction and will be viewable soon.  The art work for the pick came from the cover of their first album. This week’s Pick of the Week was created by a band called AlcolicA.“AlcolicA is a Metallica Tribute Band from Pisa, Italy. The project was born in 2004 with a dream on members’ minds: creating a live show which was the closest to Metallica’s performance. With outstanding obstinacy, the four managed to set up an impressive setlist, featuring ’80s legendary favourites and many of the ’90s metal hymns which contributed to their idols’ fame.Boasting many years of live performance, with more than a hundred gigs on their roadbook, Alcolica has performed on the most important stages in the Tuscan region..But that’s just the beginning! .. ..” Be sure to check out their site at www.myspace.com/alcolicabandpisa Their art was put on our acetal picks, and we really like the variety of color…it turned out really well on the semi-transparent white material. Pick of the Week — Scarlet Fade

This week’s Pick of the Week is for a band called Scarlet Fade. They chose our red delrin custom guitar picks, and we really loved the black graphic that they had for artwork. “What began as a group of teen musicians with a fresh, energetic sound has quickly taken the regional music scene by storm. The power behind Scarlet Fade comes from four siblings– Ali, Jordan, Jaimee, and Jake. Their rock/pop style has been influenced by bands like Switchfoot, NeedtoBreathe, The Elms, Flyleaf, and The Beatles. With a grass-roots local presence, the band has consistently won awards for performance and songwriting, and has shared the stage with other legends like Switchfoot, Lifehouse, Copeland, NeedtoBreathe, Superchick, Peter Tork (from The Monkees), and others. Much of their music draws its inspiration from personal life experience, faith, and the desire to give people a hope for the future. Many have defined their music as inspirational.  The secret to their success remains Scarlet Fade’s ability to  relate to their audience,  blending the struggles of life into a high-energy, captivating stage show that has touched the hearts of an ever-expanding loyal fan base of all ages. This week’s Pick of the Week was created for the performer/songwriter/producer/musician; Eli. In an excepert from his website bio, we discovered that Eli “possesses the mettle of a rocker. He oozes charisma. Drawing on his Tennessee roots, Eli traded break beats for rock riffs and left behind his urban moniker, Smoov-E.  Eli is a self-taught musician, fueled by his desire to create different sound scapes with live instruments. Pick of the Week — On the Rocks

This week’s Pick of the Week is for a band called On the Rocks that hails from Philadelphia, PA. The logo is awesome, and it was created on our white pearl picks, which really make the blue colors stand out, and they give a nice a 3-D effect.

On The Rocks (OTR) was originally started by John Morgera on guitar &
vocals, Brian Johnston on bass & vocals and Joe”no-shots” Rush on
guitar & vocals. Mike Drabick came aboard on drums soon after. The
foursome was together for a couple of years before bringing on Robin
as Lead Vocalist. Robin was previously singing with a band named
Slant6. Due to personal time constraints, Joe Rush made the decision
to leave the band. Although sad to let “no-shots” go, the rest of the
band was fortunate not have to wait long for their most recent member
Mike Duva. Along with his guitar shredding abilities, Mike brings his
stellar lead & backing vocals into the Rock & Roll mix. OTR is a
refreshing blend of individual talents that have combined to create a
fun, energetic rockin band! They have song selections to suit everyone

Pick of the Week — Rachel Belman

This week’s Pick of the Week was designed for Rachel Belman, a highly talented vocalist whose focus resides in Christian music.

The picks were made on our white pearl material, with a very pretty light blue design that looks awesome against the marbleized white material. The following is an exerpt from Rachel’s site:

“Music has always been a big part of my life. From an early age, I found that I loved to sing and play as many instruments as I could learn.

Through the years my passion for music has grown as well as my passion for the Lord. I dreamed of one day sharing my heart for music while expressing the love of God. Now that dream has become a calling. Where the dream was once about myself, this calling is about Jesus. My hope is that as you hear these songs, you will not focus on the person singing and playing, but on the One who deserves all the glory.”

Pick of the Week — Day Old Funk

For this week’s Pick of the Week we have a custom design created by the band Day Old Funk, for our white delrin picks. We like how crisp the black design looks against the bright white background of our picks. We thought that the band had a cool idea in not only including their logo, but also an image of the silhouettes of the band members. A little about the band:

Redefining the Fall River scene, “Day Old Funk” started in a basement
with its two original and current members, Aaron Correira and Jesse
Copley. In 2002, shortly after graduating from high school, what was
once just a musical hobby for the duo became a small time career. Their
music is heavily influenced by bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Beatles,
Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam. They were set to start making
music, but one thing was missing, another band mate. So in 2005, Todd
Langlois joined the mix. With Jesse on rhythm guitar and lead vocals,
Aaron on bass, light percussion and vocals, Todd on lead guitar,
percussion, and back-up vocals. The band could now focus on their
song-writing and playing. For three years they bounced around from
basement to basement working on their strong harmony based originals. In
2010, the boys picked up “the beat machine” Steve Lennon, who has
brought the beats to every show.

s of the blues and brings the music into the 21st Century, firing it up with sizzling guitar work, propulsive rhythms and impassioned vocals to create blues music that honors the traditions while taking the music to new and exciting places.” You can c

Pick of the Week – John Karl

This week we selected a guitar pick by country artist John Karl.  He designed this amazing pick on our white delrin material. We love the detailed design and beautiful shades of blue.  Below is a bio about this talented artist:

“John was a success before even moving to Nashville. Nominated for North East CMA Entertainer of the Year and Best Male Vocalist, John has had a No. 1 on the MP3.com country chart with “There Goes the Neighborhood” and “Small Town” was featured in the movie American Reunion. “If you want to know where country is headed, just give a listen to John Karl,” says Rodney Phelps, a top Nashville attorney who also worked with Garth Brooks and Chris Cagle

John won the local Colgate Country Showdown in Upstate NY and had a song on Christian Country Radio with “Just Love Her” in 2003. He has toured the USA and opened for acts Ricochet, Daryl Worley and Craig Morgan just to name a few. He has played lots of festivals, including Nashville’s CMA Festival and was the house artist in 2008 at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville.

John Karl is the next big thing, with the right attitude, music, and performance style. He can get wild and pull out a tear-jerker right behind it. He knows what the fans want and he gives it to them.

Growing up in Niskayuna, N.Y., John has loved music all of his life and began singing at a young age. After high school he studied Graphic Design, was part of a professional water-ski team called the Coors Light U.S. Water-ski Show Team where he produced and performed the show and was a local Club DJ. While singing at a ski team function, a local funder made him an offer he could not refuse and helped him go to Nashville.

John moved to Nashville on Labor Day of 2002. He spent the next two years learning everything he could about the Nashville music business. He networked and got into writing circles and formed the duo Kalamity Jane. Soon after John went solo and began work on his self-produced album Redneck Rich Hillbilly Happy, released 2007.

As singer/songwriter John has a knack for a well turned phrase and is looking forward to his new CD “Are You Ready For This”. Due out in late August 2010.”

Pick of the Week, El Cheapo

El Cheapo is a rock & roll cover band from Atlanta, GA fronted by “Stuff You Should Know” podcast host Chuck Bryant. They’ve been known to tear apart a basement or two and wake the neighbors in the name of a good time. After years of working day jobs, getting married and having babies, the band formed in 2007 under the original name The Cox Project. After toiling away for a year without a rhythm section, lead guitarist Eddie Cooper, bassist Chris Cox and Bryant landed a score in drummer Jim Issa, and El Cheapo was born.

The guys use Fender and Gibson guitars and amps, and Tama drums. Their original Steve Clayton pick was inspired by their loud, fast and nasty brand of rock & roll, and love of cheap beer. They can be found in various basements playing for their pet dogs, or rocking the house of 40th birthday parties around Atlanta.

Pick of the Week, Trees on Fire

This week we selected a pick on our Green Delrin pick material, by a group named Trees on Fire. The quintet’s first full-length album Organica connects the dots between rock, dance, roots, and pop music. Recorded in Virginia and Louisiana, Organica takes listeners from the heights of the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains to the buzzing swamps and bayous of the bottom-land. Produced by Rob Evans, Eric Heigle, and Trees on Fire, the exciting original music captured on this recording is only a part of the legacy the band hopes to leave behind.

The band has raised awareness and funds for a number of organizations over its four years in existence, including Sierra Club, Appalachian Voices, Atchafalaya Basinkeeper, Building Goodness Foundation, Climate Ride, Chesapeake Climate Action Network and others. Trees on Fire was voted “Greenest Regional Band” by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine and had a song featured on Sierra Club’s national website earlier this year. The band will donate 5% of proceeds from its debut album to both Atchafalaya Basinkeeper and Appalachian Voices in an effort to keep their important work moving forward.

What an amazing and inspirational band! Check more out at their website: treesonfire.com

This week we selected a bright orange delrin pick by The Ray Johnston Band for Pick of the week.  Our colored delrin picks can only be printed with black ink, but they sure can get an audiences attention! The band also ordered their design on our yellow delrin and pearl celluloid picks. You may have noticed we did a blog earlier about this band, here. They are a true inspiration!  This pick was created to help Ray Johnston promote a new web series featuring him.  Below is the synopsis of the program by HDNet: “HDNet is proud to introduce a new series presenting the journey of cancer survivor and former Dallas Maverick Ray Johnston and his band as they travel across the country trying to make it in the music business. The band’s journey is only a part of the story, however. The larger part of this behind-the-scenes series is the uplifting story of the band’s leader, Ray Johnston and his heroic battle with leukemia. While still trying to beat the disease, he is pursuing a new dream, traveling across country with The Ray Johnston Band. Some of the band’s performances will be fundraisers for The Ryan Gibson Foundation or TRGF.TRGF (www.trgf.org) is a Dallas based non-profit organization that supports leukemia research throughout the U.S. Ryan Gibson, like Ray Johnston, had a passion for finding a cure for leukemia. Now, through the talent of he and his band, Ray will be spreading the word about the importance of leukemia research as well as raising funds for TRGF.”

The series premieres on April 25th, 8pm eastern, so make sure to watch his inspirational journey only on HDNet. Or visit his website at: http://www.rayjohnstonband.com/

Pick of the Week, Dylan Duncan

This week we selected a beautiful pencil sketch that we reproduced on our Acetal guitar picks by Dylan Duncan.  Dylan explained the purpose of the bicycle on his pick to us below: “The bicycle art and Bicycle on the Ice song on the record, is inspired by an old photograph taken in 1962 by my dad in Vermont. It’s a great photo of a bicycle alone on an iced over lake and the feeling I got from the picture seemed to take on a whole new meaning that related to my own life. At the time I was feeling like I didn’t belong where I was currently living and so when I stumbled upon the lone bicycle on the ice, I realized it, too, didn’t belong where it was. I felt the need to write about it and it became one of the central themes and inspired the album artwork, including corresponding materials like
buttons and these guitar picks.
”  We thought this was an amazing way to let your music be inspired, even by the most unexpected things. Pick of the Week, Foo Fighters

Our pick of the week for the first week of April is the Foo Fighters pick! We have been making picks for the Foo Fighters for a number of years.  They always come up with some really neat design ideas, ranging from drawings of their kids, or one of my favorites is glossy black ink of a bomb on a dark charcoal matte pick. We had never thought of trying that, but it turned out very cool looking when they made those. You can see those picks on Dave Grohl’s mic stand in the picture below.  This week we are featuring one of their newest designs, which has their Foo Fighter logo on it in Red and Blue.  The back of the picks have XXX on it in different colors. We thought this was a really classic design and wanted to feature it.  These pick are printed on our Acetal Rounded Triangle 1.00mm.  Acetal is the pick most of our big name bands use. It has a great sound, and holds up without breaking during their long performances. It is a true Professional players pick. You can see more of their picks in our blog here.
