Formed in 2005 the band Kauze is a heavy-metal band located in Southern California.  They enjoy using our acetal picks and are big fans of our picks.  They created a debut EP titled “Waiting for the Punch” released in 2006.  They just had their latest EP release “Epiphany.”  The new EP was supported during their 2009 tour and have up coming shows for 2010. Kauze likes to say they sound like old-school hardcore punk and metal.  We look forward to supporting the band and hope the best for them this year.  You can find out more info on the band at www.myspace.com/kauzetunes

Pick of the Week, Foo Fighters

Our pick of the week for the first week of April is the Foo Fighters pick! We have been making picks for the Foo Fighters for a number of years.  They always come up with some really neat design ideas, ranging from drawings of their kids, or one of my favorites is glossy black ink of a bomb on a dark charcoal matte pick. We had never thought of trying that, but it turned out very cool looking when they made those. You can see those picks on Dave Grohl’s mic stand in the picture below.  This week we are featuring one of their newest designs, which has their Foo Fighter logo on it in Red and Blue.  The back of the picks have XXX on it in different colors. We thought this was a really classic design and wanted to feature it.  These pick are printed on our Acetal Rounded Triangle 1.00mm.  Acetal is the pick most of our big name bands use. It has a great sound, and holds up without breaking during their long performances. It is a true Professional players pick. You can see more of their picks in our blog here.

They like to use our Clayton Acetal 1.26 standard shape picks, along with our orange and yellow colored delrins. Tallboy has also performed with such bands as Hinder, Papa Roach, KMK, and Floater. Pick of the Week, Todd Simpson and Mojo Child

This week we selected a good example of a pick on our Ultem material. We love this pick, because it uses all kind of different shades of brown on it.  Ultem can only be imprinted with either brown, red or black. These colors look best with its Amber hue.  Todd Simpson is a very accomplished musician.  He has shared the state with the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Huey Lewis,Paul Thorn and Phil Lesh and friends. Todd plays blues combined with a southern rock vibe.  He even recently preformed at the Whiskey A Go Go in L.A.  For more information on Todd and his high energy band check out the website: www.toddsimpsonandmojochild.com.

We are excited to announce today about the new endorsed artists from the band “This Providence.” The band was formed in 2003 in Seattle, WA. They have three albums, Our Worlds Divorce, This Providence, and the newly acclaimed “Who Are You Now?” which just came out March 17th.  The new album features the hit “Letdown” which is in the video below. Daniel Young commented on how important it was to take all last year to produce the new album “Who Are You Now” by saying “We took a long time off the road before going into the studio because we wanted to write songs that were dripping with creativity and you can’t rush that,” Young explains, “I think the end result is much stronger because of that.” The album has a lot of energy and we are looking forward to following them this year. The band members play with our acetal .63mm rounded triangle picks and our 1.0mm standard shape acetal picks. They are less than 5 days away from kicking off their headling Bout Damn Time Tour featuring TheAudition, Anarbor, The Bigger Lights, and Artist Vs. Poet. From NBA to Music “The Ray Johnston Band”

Ray Johnston has a story we all should hear about.  He has gone from the NBA to his band now”The Ray Johnston Band”  The video below gives you an inspiring story of how one person continues to live his dreams even when the toughest obstacles can come along.  Ray was a former Dallas Mavericks NBA player that had to walk away from the NBA due to unexpected leukemia.  He bounced back after going through a coma and many days being in the hospital.  Jason Mraz said, ” When you listen to music…ahh yeah the person gets me…they know what it’s about and your now one of those guys.”  This Jason claims about Ray Johnston’s music.  He likes to use our popular acetal .63mm guitar picks and we will show his new picks once we finish them this week.  It is our pleasure to support such an inspiring musician and we look forward to following The Ray Johnston Band throughout the year.  For upcoming shows and more information you may go to these links www.rayjohnstonband.com, http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/sweet-tooth/id327952492

Clayton Custom Pick of the Week!

Here at Clayton, Inc, we have decided to feature a custom pick each week from now forward! We think this is a great way to showcase many of the great picks we make for bands every day.  Keep checking in each week to see a new featured pick and band from us.

This week we selected a pick we made for the Nancy Kenyon Band.  We loved how colorful and detailed this pick turned out on our white delrin .80mm material. It is a great example that shows what amazing detail and color we can produce onto a guitar pick.  We also enhanced this pick by using glossy ink to really make the graphic “pop” on the pick. We had a great time learning more about Nancy Kenyon and her high energy female country style.   She has been doing acoustic style shows for over 15 years! Now within the past few years she has a full band and is starting to do big venues. Her next notable show will be at Jillian’s in Albany, NY, which will be an after party for Carrie Underwood’s Albany concert.  It begins at 11pm if any of you are interested in seeing this amazing band! Kyle Gass – New Featured Artist

We are proud to announce Kyle Gass (KG) of Tenacious D/Trainwreck as our new featured artist on our website at http://www.steveclayton.com/featuredartist.php! We have worked with KG for a very long time, supplying both himself and Jack Black with their custom picks on our Acetal Rounded Triangle .63mm. Kyle even signed autographs at our booth at the last NAMM trade show.  In addition to Tenacious D, Kyle has formed the band Trainwreck. KG describes Trainwreck as “a cornucopia of rock and a 5-headed hydra of pleasure”. Trainwreck is a eclectic mix of Southern Rock, Prog-Rock, Boogie, and straight-up Classic Rock and Roll, along with comedy banter and lyrics derived from the characters they’ve developed within the band. In late 2009 they released their debut album, “The Wreckoning”. It album contains 15 tracks of what they call “Wreck and Roll.” The band is fronted by biker-hayseed Darryl Donald (”Lee” of Tenacious D, or JR), and Kyle Gass (aka Klip Calhoun), and containing most of Tenacious D’s live/studio band (John Shredman, Boy Johnny, and Dallas St. Bernard). Trainwreck is currently on tour, so if you are in any of the following areas, make sure to go check out this unique band!

Eric Church 2010 Tour Picks

Eric Church is one of our endorsed artists and we just wanted to let you know he is one of country’s hardest working artists. We could say working a little bit too hard after last fall.   While performing in New York, he was stomping so hard on stage that he hurt his ankle. He still finished the show and is ready to set the stage for his 2010 tour with our Clayton custom picks. Here are the picks you might get at one of his shows if you’re lucky. He’s already sold out for this Thursday’s show at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville.  Church’s picks are the white pearl rounded triangle with the gauge at 1mm.  The white delrin 1mm standard pick is another choice for Church. He has a top 10 hit with his song “Love Your Love the Most,”
one of his songs on his new Carolina album. Another big hit on the album is “Hell On the Heart.” Eric is a rising star that we are excited to follow this year. We look forward to supporting Eric Church during his 2010 tour.

If you are an artist that is also interested in becoming endorsed by us, you may mail us information regarding record label, band picture, tour schedule, and type of Clayton picks you use. There is a full list of information you can find through our contact information on our Steve Clayton website. Any questions you have for us you may email to questions@steveclayton.com.

Not to mention he was also asked to sign lots of Tenacious D memorabilia.  Kyle Gass caused such a commotion at NAMM it required 8 security guards to keep the crowd under control! Keep checking back for a blog about Kyle Gass’ band Trainwreck and a video about why Kyle just won’t rest!

Shotgun Riot

Glasstone Records sent us press kit a few months back, we are in the process of endorsing several of their bands. shotgunYou should have seen the stack of contracts I had to sign, my hand was aching at the end of it! :).  When we get them all back I will take a picture with them all so you can see why, haha. We just got the first contracts back from Neil, Tom and Adam of Shotgun Riot. I think this is out first hardcore punk endorsee. They definently have a real gritty hardcore sound to them that any deep rock fan can appreciate. I normally don’t listen to the more hardcore stuff but you actually hear what these guys are saying so it is enjoyable and not so tough on the ears. Definently a band you would have to turn up to the max to get the full effect of. This band is located in London, UK. Check out their myspace to sample their music. Also, look out for more posts soon about Glasstone Records and new bands to be endorsed.

Guitar Pick News – Illegal Guitar Pick Case

Woman Pleads Guilty for Selling Illegal Sea Turtle Guitar Picks

Associated Press
May 8, 2009

“A 54-year-old Sonoma County woman has pleaded guilty to charges of illegally importing guitar picks made from endangered sea turtle shells. The U.S. atlantichawksbillseaturtle2attorney’s office says Qing Song pleaded guilty to one felony Wednesday. She was sentenced to 10 months of home confinement and a $2,000 fine. Song admitted to importing picks or raw shells of the hawksbill sea turtle from China and selling them in the United States. Some musicians covet the turtle shells instead of ordinary plastic picks because they believe they produce a superior tone. It is illegal to trade endangered wildlife without a valid permit for scientific research or other approved, noncommercial use.”

Hmmm…. I guess she has never heard of Clayton Ultems. 🙂
