Products used: Clayton Custom Colored Delrin 1.14mm picks

“Steve Clayton custom picks are the best quality picks I’ve ever used.”

Austin Schmidt, plays lead guitar and sings back-up vocals for the band Shot In The Dark.  He began playing guitar when he was 11 years old and went on to play in a band when he enrolled at West Coast Rock School at the age of 13.  For years Austin played with several different bands, learned additional instruments, sang lead vocals, and appeared at many different venues.  When Shot In The Dark was formed in the spring of 2013, Austin was able to take his musical talent to a different level.  The band began writing and recording original songs and released their own ep in June of 2014.  While playing with Shot In The Dark, Austin has had the opportunity to play two different dates during the 2014 Vans Warped Tour as well as many other festivals and events throughout southern California.  Shot In The Dark has been able to open for such prominent acts as Escape The Fate, We Came As Romans, SECRETS, The Dead Rabbitts, Alien Ant Farm, and The Tubes.

Which White?

Over the years, Clayton, USA has added more and more pick options to our custom guitar pick line. I have realized that, currently, we offer five different white guitar pick options for custom printing, and some of you may be wondering which white pick material will be best for you?

Here is a quick guide to help you out!

1. White Delrin Picks: These are basic, bright white picks, similar to tortex material. They have a semi-gloss finish. They work best with dark, bright, and bold colors for custom designs. Black print is the best for this material.

2. Acetal Picks: Some customers choose acetal for custom picks because they have already tried our regular Clayton acetal picks and love them! Acetal picks are professional grade; known for having an excellent grip to them. They work well with a variety of colors for designs, as long as the shades are not too light. They are semi-transparent, so you want to keep this in mind for two-sided designs. They also can support full bleed backgrounds (except black) and photos.

3. Eco Picks: Eco picks are playable guitar picks, though they are not as durable as some of our other materials because they are a biodegradable plastic. However, if you are getting picks purely for promotional use, or give-aways, they are awesome because they can support absolutely ANY artwork. We have done photos, light color shades, high detail designs, and full coverage backgrounds, and they always turn out beautifully on Eco material!

4. White Pearl Picks: Our white pearl material is distinctive because it is marbleized, and has a glossy finish. These picks also work great with a wide variety of colors and can support light color shades (even light grey). You will just want to be aware that the marbleized quality will show through in the design that is printed on them (unless it is black print).

5. Carbonate Picks: Carbonate material is plain white, like white delrin, but with a gloss finish like white pearl. Carbonate, like white delrin, works best with bright and bold colors for the designs. We offer carbonate picks as our less-than-100 pick option… You can get custom carbonate picks in sets of 30 or 60, while our other white pick options have a minimum order quantity of 100.

OwlPicks
This week, we wanted to show off this awesome owl pick design ordered by one of our customers! The owl was printed on our green delrin pick material. There is a high amount of detail in the art, and it looks really nice as a black print on the green background. Delrin picks come in 6 different color/gauges, and are one of our lowest cost picks, starting at 100 for just $34.99! To order your own custom printed guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Tattoo Your Picks

Getting a custom printed design on your guitar picks is just about the same as tattooing them, and this design especially reminded me of an awesome tattoo! The colors are so vibrant, and they are perfect against the background of our white delrin guitar picks. Our white delrin material is a flat, very bright white so it always makes bright colors in designs really stand out! This customer also utilized our full bleed design option so that the art on the picks goes all the way to the very edge, instead of having a border around it. To order your own custom ink “tattoo” picks, visit www.claytoncustom.comScatter today!

Ssss Snake Picksssss

Check out these custom picks made for the band Nest of Snakes!

NestThe design is a simple black artwork, and it was made on our yellow delrin pick material. Even thought the colors are basic, we liked the intricacy of the design and how it fits really well into the pick shape…they just look cool!

To design and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

“Nest of Snakes is a trophy case of local talent. It consists of Jason Boten formerly of Superchief, who plays guitar and sings, Larry Enos who also plays with Sons of Walter on bass, Tom Brighton who splits his time with September on guitar and vox, and drummer Derek Deutramont who was formerly with the Albino Spiders.

Their sound is heavy but not all-encompassing. It’s composed of a variety of different influences from all over the rock and roll map. The two tracks I heard brought to mind such classic acts as Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, but I also heard glimpses of early Soundgarden and Motorhead. Despite having a heavy foundation, the music is also rich with melodies, a trait that sometimes gets lost in the Des Moines metal scene.”

Pick of the Week — The Darlins

This week’s Pick of the Week was created for the band The Darlins. “In September of 2008, singer/songwriter and founding member of her former LA based duo, The Darlins, Portland- born guitarist, Jude Toy, asked co-worker and fellow singer/songwriter and Nashville native, Erinn Bates, if she wanted to write and perform together around town. From the first writing appointment, they knew they had something special. Jude’s rocking acoustic guitar and harmonies blended harmoniously with Erinn’s bluegrass-tinged lead vocals and mandolin. In 2009, The Darlins were reborn and opened for country stars Darryl  Worley and Andy Griggs and were asked to take part in the Music City showcase, Alabama Line. Their rootsy harmony-riched sound has helped them play venues like Music City Roots and The Bluebird Cafe as well as have their original songs placed on network television. Listen for their songs on The Sportsman’s Channel’s Dead Dog Walking and The Syndicate as well as ABC’s GCB. To find out more about The Darlins, visit their site at http://www.thedarlins.com/. The Darlins’ picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which makes their hot pink logo really stand out! Create and order your own custom guitar picks at www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Tryst

This week’s Pick of the Week was designed and ordered by Charlton Young for his band, Tryst. Tryst, is a “top 40” acoustic cover band.  They play a lot of the newer pop songs that are coming out and do a lot of mash ups with songs you would never think to mash up.  Their influences include Chevelle, Howie Day, Boyce Avenue, Cee-lo green, Jason Derulo, Oasis, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Pink, and Ke$ha. The band has been around for a few years, but Charlton joined just a couple months ago after their guitar player left without any notice and forced them to cancel a bunch of gigs.  Charlton says that this set-back upset a lot of bar and club owners, so it has been difficult for Tryst to get back into the scene, but slowly they are getting back out there.  Find out more about Tryst on their website at www.tryst-chicago.com

Tryst’s custom guitar picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, and the bright white really makes their vibrant red logo “pop!” To create and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — James Cademan

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for musician James Cademan. “James Cademan is no stranger on the local scene of Sarasota, Florida where he
currently writes, performs, records, and mixes his original music. Cademan’s
music style denotes a contemporary folk sound as it has an easy listening,
melancholy driven pulse. The lyrics are pondering, evocative and full of life
experiences, reflective of styles from bands such as 3 Doors Down and Creed.
In 2009, Cademan left a position as VP of a nationally known Food Service
Consulting firm to pursue writing and performing music full time.  Since then
he has released his debut album entitled “Unplugged and Away”, an EP
containing five acoustic versions of his most popular songs.  The album is
available on iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Emusic and many more online outlets.
Best Buy Music has also released the album in stores in September 2011.  To
listen and purchase autographed CD’s visit www.jamescademan.com/store.cfm

Cademan plays as a solo act and in live performances. He plays Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar and/or Keyboards.  He has chosen both the black celluloid picks and the .05mm red colored delrin (shown at right) picks with the iconic Cademan Wings logo on it.  The black celluloid picks are offered as give aways at shows and also have been turned into jewelry and accessories which can be purchased at shows and at the online store (www.jamescademan.com/store.cfm). Cademan selected the .05mm red colored delrin picks because of the sure grip, soft feel and mellow tone they provide when playing acoustically. To create and design your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com.

Cademan designed the iconic Cademan Wings logo to symbolize an experience he had years ago as a teen.  One night he was awakened with the distinct and uneasy feeling that someone was watching him.  There standing next to his bed was a dark shadow-like figure wearing a wide brimmed “gaucho” style hat and along black cape.  Although the room was pitch black, the outline of the figure was blacker than the dark.  Feeling that the shadow figure’s intentions were evil he found the courage to jump out of bed and run out of the room. Returning to the room a while later, the figure was gone. On the next night Cademan was once again awakened by a visitor. Only this time there was no dark entity.  Instead, there was a giant man with short blonde hair wearing a white toga and crimson sash standing at the foot of his bed. He was at least seven feet tall.  Interestingly though he did not have wings as you might think an angel would.  The angel never moved his mouth but James distinctly heard him say “I am Cademan.  I’ve been sent to protect you”. After these experiences, Cademan (aka,  Jim Richards), believed someone was watching over him and since then the name “Cademan” took on the meaning of “Protection, Guidence and Success”.   In 2008, James assumed the name “Cademan” as his stage name….because, to him, the name is associated with success.  Thus, the iconic sweeping angel wing design and “Cademan” emboldened in the logo design was created to represent strength and success. (Listen to the entire story of Cademan’s angel experience by visiting the February 2, 2012 blog entry at www.jamescademan.com/blog.cfm). Cademan is currently recording his sophomore album entitled “Next Life Now”, set for release in Winter 2012/Spring 2013.  He is also preparing to tour the Summer of 2012 with The Extreme Tour.  Visit www.jamescademan.com for tour dates and cities.”

Pick of the Week — Jeff Strahan

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for blues artist Jeff Strahan.  Jeff usually plays with a three piece band made up of himself (guitar), bass and drums.  He also plays piano and B-3.  Here are a couple reviews of Jeff:

“Strahan is a fiery Texas spirit, a killer guitar player & piano pounder and singer, as wild as the high plains from which he hails, and as cool as the hill country where he lives. He’s as real & strong as lightning, I swear, and I love being around him, to hear how he’s going to knock me out next.” -Walt Wilkins

“Hell, I’m just going to say it: he out Buddy-Guys Stevie Ray.. ., then [he’ll] play guitar and piano simultaneously. He’ll whang a quick rhythm chord and then, with just his right hand, break out a 55-gallon drum of Jerry Lee whupass on the keyboard.”
– Bill Aspinwall, Texas Music Journal (Jul 28, 2009)
To find out more about Jeff Strahan, visit his website at jeffstrahan.com
Jeff’s custom picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which make the bright colors in his design really pop. To design and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — The Cat’s Pajamas

This week’s Pick of the Week is for The Cat’s Pajamas Vocal Band. It is an explosive 5 man a cappella group who creates all the sounds of a band using only their voices.  The group was formed in 2005 by Brian Skinner and Nate Mendl who both share a passion and drive for performing and music production.  The two had previously worked together in college groups at The University of Wisconsin such as the Wisconsin Singers and a cappella groups the MadHatters and Redefined.  The first time The Cat’s PJs ever performed together was for the 2005 Oreo Cookie Jingle competition.  They then recorded a demo and searched everywhere for gigs until their first big break when they were offered a 6 month stint on Celebrity Cruise Lines as the in house a cappella group.  After their first contract, The Cat’s Pajamas moved on to be hired as guest entertainers by Norwegian Cruise Lines.  The Cats performed 40 weeks a year onboard NCL from 2007-2009, and quickly became their highest rated act.  The Cats also found themselves on America’s Got Talent and The Next Great American Band.  Since their inception, The Cat’s Pajamas have always been involved in education and giving back to the school systems that made them successful.  This was the inspiration for  their “Music in Schools” fundraising tour.  Nate and Brad are both certified choral teachers and all five members work with kids by teaching breathing/singing techniques, confidence, performance tips, and overall trying to keep them excited and involved with singing.  Each year they perform at approximately 25 schools and have raised over $50,000 to date for struggling arts programs all over the country.  After 3 years of perpetual cruising and touring on land, in the fall of 2009, The Cat’s Pajamas decided to move down to Branson, Missouri. Often named the “Live Music Show Capitol of the World”, Branson is a vacation destination to over 8 million visitors each year.  Since the move they’ve been performing over 200 shows a year! In the fall of 2011 The Cat’s Pajamas reached millions of new viewers when they performed on NBC’s hit show The Sing Off.  Now back in Branson for their third season, The Cat’s Pajamas will be performing an all new high energy show from March through December of 2012 at the world-class Andy Williams Moon River Theatre.
Schedule and more information are available on their website at www.vocalmeow.com and their music is available on itunes.
The Cat’s Pajamas’ custom picks picks were made on Clayton’s pink delrin guitar pick material. Create and order your own custom picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — The Brian Davis Band

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for The Brian Davis Band, which formed in 2004 for a one-night-only concert to raise funds for the music departments in the local Catholic schools. That night was an overwhelming success both monetarily and spiritually and ended with a feeling of what’s next! Since then, that concert has grown to an annual event drawing near a thousand together each year in worship and has raised nearly $35,000 dollars for youth music programs.
In 2007, the band was finding themselves more in demand for youth rallies, worship nights and church festivals. That demand came with a special call from God to begin to share their faith journey through original songs. As the songs poured out, the ministry continued to grow and touch the lives of countless Christians from their region. 2009 was truly a breakout year for the band; seeing their message spread to a larger audience, seeing their gifts helping the people of Uganda through a nationally released compilation album titled “Unified By Grace,” making their first television appearance on ” Lift Him Up Kansas” and completing their first studio album “Stand” which released in January of 2010.
The band is looking forward to the places God will call them to in 2012 and the opportunity to serve his people through their ministry.
For more information regarding the band visit them online at www.myspace.com/thebriandavisband42 or “like them” on Facebook!

The Brian Davis Band chose to have their picks made on our orange delrin material, which nicely supports their intricate black design. We loved the fine detail and creativity of their artwork. Brian told me that the design on the pick was inspired by Luke 12:24 which speaks of how the Raven, who has nothing, is cared for and loved by God. This passage intends to teach us that we, who have so many gifts, are loved as much… if not more. The Brian Davis Band has the same design for one of their t-shirts as well as on the front of their drum kit. To create your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Hero Kid

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Hero Kid. “Hero Kid was formed in August 2011 by Jake Smith (Vox/Guitar), Matt Heady (Drums), Sean Beedle (Bass) and Tyler Halsey (Vox/Lead Guitar). Jake and Matt have played at the Vans Warped Tour with national acts such as Bowling For Soup, The Ataris, AFI, Rancid and Less than Jake. They have also toured nationally and played at the famous Whiskey A Go Go and The Roxy in Los Angles. Sean has played in a variety of bands
while serving his country in the armed forces. Tyler has played in numerous bands over the last 10 years. He has won numerous guitar competitions and worked in Nashville writing music professionally. He has also played with national acts, such as, Avenge Sevenfold and has even played on stage with All That Remains. Their influences range from Rise Against, Blink 182, Avenged Sevenfold, and Nirvana. If you had to label the bands sound it would be a combination of hardcore and pop punk. What you can say for sure is that they have their own unique sound. Combining catching riffs and amazing guitar solos, it leaves fans energized and wanting more. The band recorded a two-song demo at the end of August of 2011. The songs “Life on the Run” and “Bring Me Down” have quickly gained support from fans around the world. The band has invested in worldwide promotion of their music. With their two-song demo they are building themselves to the top with an indestructible foundation. Armed with do-it-yourself determination, Hero Kid does not pretend to be anyone but themselves. The band does not bother with egos or attitude, determined to connect with every fan
on a personal level. The band will be heading into the studio late 2011 to record their first EP. It will be released early 2012. Look for Hero Kid to come to a city near you, starting in the spring of 2012″ Find out more at:  http://www.facebook.com/herokidmusic We chose this pick because we liked the clean look of the logo in red against our white delrin pick material. You can create and order your own customized guitar picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Go All Out

We decided to showcase a couple of really nice overbleed custom pick designs. Overbleed, or full bleed, is an option for custom picks that allows you to create your design so that the art, graphics, photos, text, etc. will extend all the way to the very edge of the pick, instead of having a border around them. This simple change in the normal design process will allow for some really cool effects, like the picks shown below. The pick on the left is our pink delrin material, and we like how the black design creates the effect of a patterned pick. The pick on the right is a white pearl, and the full coverage of the background in the art creates an illusion that the pick is colored instead of white, and has a really nice gradient. To have this option for your own custom picks, simply visit www.claytoncustom.com and start your design. When you reach the pick options page, you will see a box to the right that you can check to allow for the full bleed of your design. When you click this box, you will notice that the template on the next page will not include any border around your design. Just as a caution though, it is inadvisable to create a design that has a black full bleed background on a white guitar pick…these types of designs are highly susceptible to flaking once they are on the picks, and they often make the artwork appear muddy. Happy designing!

Pick of the Week — The Dunmore Lasses

This week’s Pick of the Week was created for our colored delrin guitar picks, which are available in six different colors/gauges. June Biancalana of The Dunmore Lasses, who designed this pick, chose our blue, 1.0mm picks. The Dunmore Lasses are a Northern Utah-based not-so-traditional Irish/Scottish Music Trio; June Biancalana: Guitar, Mandolin, Didgeridoo; Yolanda Sue Guedea: Fiddle, Octave Mandolin and Tiffany Draper: Irish Flute, Irish Whistle, Bodrhan, Fiddle.  The Lasses play upbeat Irish/Scottish and original Irish-inspired music.  They’ve played music festivals, concerts, St. Patty’s Day parties, weddings . . . you name it! Check out their sites: www.facebook.com/the-dunmore-lasses www.myspace.com/dunmorelasses Their  music is available at for download purchase at Amazon.com:

Pick of the Week — MESSER

This week’s Pick of the Week is an awesome, high-detail design submitted by the band MESSER. Here is some info about them from their Reverbnation site:

“MESSER started writing late July 2009. With only a handful of shows since then, the Dallas, Texas, group has raised the attention of industry and fans alike by the lightning fast rise of popularity, both locally and nationally. Although some bands prefer not to be compared to anyone, MESSER finds that fans of Soundgarden’s candor, Velvet Revolver’s swagger and the grind of Motley Crue’s music are taking notice. Their music can be described as a nod to the 90’s, with their roots firmly planted in the present, while still honing their original sound for 2011 and beyond. Together Javier Contreras – Guitar/Vocals, Dereak – Lead vocals, Kenn Youngar – Drums, and Maddox – Bass/Vocals, provide somewhat of a local super group assault on the senses.” Find out more about MESSER at reverbnation.com/messer. The pick shown is a red delrin pick, in a .50mm gauge, rounded triangle shape. Design your own custom picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Picks for a Cause!

During the past week, we have had the opportunity to make custom guitar picks to promote an awesome cause. We are excited about this organization, and we are so glad that they chose us to help support them! The Save the Ta-tas® Foundation and ta-tas® Brand was created by clothing designer Julia Fikse as a way to fight breast cancer using laughter and fun as a way to fight a serious disease. Her playful line of t-shirts and accessories include messages such as “save the ta-tas” and “friends don’t let friends lose ta-tas.”  Her messages of hope and humor have reached thousands of victims and survivors of breast cancer and have helped them to fight the disease with both strength and courage. ta-tas® Brand, which was started in 2004, donates 5% of gross sales year around to fight cancer. This is a unique, high and very risky commitment. They realize that women and families need support NOW so they also have an annual scholarship contest, support the Revlon Run Walk for Women and donate product year-round to independent fundraisers so others can raise funds for their favorite cancer charity. For more information, please visit www.savethetatas.com. The Save the Ta-tas picks were created, appropriately, on our pink delrin picks. To design your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Scarlet Fade

This week’s Pick of the Week is for a band called Scarlet Fade. They chose our red delrin custom guitar picks, and we really loved the black graphic that they had for artwork. “What began as a group of teen musicians with a fresh, energetic sound has quickly taken the regional music scene by storm. The power behind Scarlet Fade comes from four siblings– Ali, Jordan, Jaimee, and Jake. Their rock/pop style has been influenced by bands like Switchfoot, NeedtoBreathe, The Elms, Flyleaf, and The Beatles. With a grass-roots local presence, the band has consistently won awards for performance and songwriting, and has shared the stage with other legends like Switchfoot, Lifehouse, Copeland, NeedtoBreathe, Superchick, Peter Tork (from The Monkees), and others. Much of their music draws its inspiration from personal life experience, faith, and the desire to give people a hope for the future. Many have defined their music as inspirational.  The secret to their success remains Scarlet Fade’s ability to  relate to their audience,  blending the struggles of life into a high-energy, captivating stage show that has touched the hearts of an ever-expanding loyal fan base of all ages. The name, Scarlet Fade, is inspired from the verse Isaiah 1:18 ‘though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow'”. Find out more about Scarlet Fade, their music, and upcoming shows at http://www.scarletfade.com. Design your own custom guitar picks at www.claytoncustom.com!

Black and White

Sometimes, the simplistic designs are the ones that look the best when it comes to custom guitar picks. Shown in the image below are some great examples of simple but awesome designs that were submitted by our customers. These were all created on our white delrin picks. White delrin material is a really nice, bright white that looks great with colors, or with black-only designs like these. Rev up your Autograph with Custom Signature Picks!

One of the more popular ideas for custom guitar picks from Clayton is to put your signature on the pick as the design or a portion of the design. Shown here are several examples of customers who liked this idea. This is a great way to personalize picks and they always come out looking really nice…no matter which pick material you choose. Signature picks can work really well if you are creating custom picks for a band and would like the band logo on one side, but each individual’s name on the other side. They also are perfect gifts for guitar players. All you have to do is figure out a sneaky way to get him/her to sign a piece of paper, then scan it, and upload the scan into our designer at www.claytoncustom.com. Try it out today!

Awww….Baby Picks!

As you know, custom guitar picks are great for events such as concerts, birthday parties, weddings, etc. They are also a great way to welcome a new baby! As you can see from the image below, we have already had some customers order custom guitar picks designed especially for a new baby. Custom guitar picks work for baby showers, or as a congratulatory present after the baby is born. If you want to use the traditional colors, we have pink delrin and blue delrin guitar picks that can be designed with a custom black print (pink delrin shown in image). Or, you can choose one of our white picks and create a unique design using any colors that you want! (Guitar pick on the right is an acetal pick with a blue design. So if you are ready to welcome a new baby, and want to start them on the right track to music and fame, custom picks from Clayton is the way to go!

Teardrop Picks

This week, we wanted to draw some attention to our custom teardrop shaped picks. Many of our custom pick materials are available in three different shapes; rounded triangle, standard, and small teardrop. We often have customers request picks that are best for playing jazz music, and teardrop should be the first choice!  The small size offers a quick response when playing, and the slightly rounded tip will provide a warm tone. We have this shape available in a variety of materials, including ultem, acetal and colored delrin (several gauges available as well). Despite the smaller size of the teardrop shaped picks, we have had some great designs submitted to go on the picks. Shown here are examples of small teardrop custom designs on each of the materials offered. Left to right in the image, the materials are acetal, ultem and orange colored delrin.
