Pick of the Week — ForeRunner, Ryan Adkins

This week’s pick of the week was created by Ryan Adkins, lead vocalist and guitarist from the band “ForeRunner.Ryan is originally from Magnolia, Ohio, near Canton, where he has been involved in a variety of eleven different bands in eighteen years. He has written and produced most of the music he has performed, and is a graduate of Ohio Christian University, having received a degree in Christian Ministries and Music.  He is now working on a Masters in Divinity from Wesley Biblical Seminary.  Ryan was diagnosed in 2007 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  He had a very large tumor in his chest that stopped their summer tour while he underwent 3 surgeries, 6 months of chemotherapy and 20 radiation treatments.  3 Years later his cancer returned and forced him back into treatments and, finally, a stem cell transplant.  He is back on the road and in the studio recording with Josh Brown from “Full Devil Jacket” and “Day of Fire” and producer Rogers Masson.  Only by the grace of God he sings and shares his story at every concert scheduled! You can find music, merchandise, and schedule at their official website: www.forerunnertheband.com. Ryan’s custom guitar picks were made on our acetal material, in a rounded triangle shape. Pick of the Week — Bodega Bob

This week’s Pick of the Week was created by guitarist Bodega Bob. The picks are acetal material, with a really cool, colorful graphic that makes them stand out amongst the picks we have made recently. Here is a little info about Bodega Bob, in an exerpt taken from his bio at http://www.cheapandeasymusic.com/bodega.htm: “Bodega Bob has been slingin’ a six string since the age of fifteen. Raised in the border territories between West Virginia and western Pennsylvania he cut his teeth on Hank, Johnny, Lester & Earl. In a bizarre and humorous twist of fate, Bodega BobBodega was introduced to Polka recording stars Wanda & Stephanie and Frankie Yankovich and blew trumpet on the Polka circuit for several years with the Moleks in such bands as the Silver Stars and the Polka Dynamics. During his Vietnam & Cold War era Navy career, Bodega played guitar in liberty barrooms across two oceans and five of the seven seas. His experience as an acoustic street musician in Spain & Africa provided him with a rich and earthy outdoor sound that removes any barriers between the audience and the musicians. Over his musical journey, Bodega has performed with such diverse personalities as Christian Music vocalist & recording artist Jamie Lambert, Irish balladeer Eddie Delaher, Memphis recording artist Wendell Craig, and most recently as the front man for the successful regional trio Trigger Happy.Bodega’s original songs range from the funny to the gritty…and his affinity for the box guitar and his barroom-bass vocals form the crux of Cheap & Easy’s earthy sound.” Find out more at http://www.cheapandeasymusic.com/. This week’s Pick of the Week is an acetal rounded triangle pick with an awesome design created for a band called The Pears. “The Pears are a musical trio, formed in 2010, and are located 50 miles north of NYC, in the western portion of Connecticut. Their music spans all generations with a focus on the 90s and 2000s. Each of the band members brings a unique talent to their arrangements, often delivering a new perspective on a popular composition. Acoustic in nature, the band carries a huge sound with a small footprint, and provides an ever-changing mix of covers and originals. While high energy alternative music is the favorite genre of the band, The Pears deliver a complete palette of music for everyone to enjoy. The band’s chemistry and passion for music has taken them to multiple venues, enjoying every second of their performances, while casting a contagious energy across their audiences. The band is planning to release their original music in the fall of 2011.” The Pears would like to thank Clayton USA for the opportunity to participate in their Pick of the Week blog. The Pears members: Angela – Vocals, Guitar; Chuck – Guitar, Vocals, Mandolin; and Nancy- Percussion, Vocals. Pick of the Week — Evan Frankel/Michael Alexander Blues Band/Young Turk

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for Evan Frankel, who is currently playing with the Michael Alexander Blues Band. Michael Alexander is formerly of Young Turk. “Young Turk was a great Miami based band that started out as a Rock band with a sleeze rock feel, sort-of like poison, but without all the big hair, spandex and make-up. When they came out they had great sounding tunes that could stand up to any of the typical Metal/Rock tunes of the 80’s. Their first release was a album entitled “Do you know where your daughters are?”. It was a great first effort equipped with songs that stuck in your mind when you heard them. One song had an anthem feel telling the listener to “Reach for that pot of Gold” while another song was a great ballad telling of the “Winter Nights” that keep calling.  They brought on stage with them an intense feeling of LETS PARTY that rubbed off on the crowd as they played and made every one feel the vibe!” Find out more about Young Turk by visiting http://www.myspace.com/young_turk_music. To learn about The Michael Andrews Blues Band, check out their video on http://www.youtube.com/user/bluescrumpet?feature=mhum. We loved the art that was used for Evan’s picks because it is creative, colorful, and unusual when compared with other designs submitted by customers. The design was printed on our acetal small teardrop pick material. Design your own picks at www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Natalie Wattre

This week’s Pick of the Week was created by musician Natalie Wattré. “Natalie came up as a musician in the LA band the Extinct. She was one of the 2 large contributors of songs to the bands extensive repertoire. In the mid 1990’s the Extinct was signed to Sony Publishing. In 1997 Natalie left the Extinct and soon after found that she was more inclined to the independent way of life which lead to the beginning of Swirly Girl Records. Critics have said that her voice is ‘reminiscent of Janis Joplin’, ‘akin to the Tracy Chapman/Joan Armatrading school of throaty, emotional expression.’, ‘Emotionally driven’ and ‘Vocals that hold nothing back’. Her songwriting has been described as ‘Storytelling that makes the listener realize the unapparent realities of their surroundings. Music of reminiscence. Music to base your life on.'” Find out more about Natalie and her music at www.NatalieWattre.com. Natalie’s very classy pick design was produced on our acetal rounded triangle pick material. Design your own custom guitar picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — The M-80s

This week’s Pick of the Week design is a cool Americana logo for The M-80’s, done on our white pearl guitar pick material. Here is some info about the band, submitted by bassist/vocalist Michael Weidenbach: “The M-80s have been one of Clayton’s endorsed bands for a while now, but like many bands, we’ve been putting off ordering the custom guitar picks we really wanted. We finally submitted the order, and now we can’t wait for the delivery to arrive! We’re a 1980s-era tribute band from the Birmingham, Alabama area, and we play the rock & pop hits from the ’80s…the golden age of MTV.  We cover the popular styles & artists from the era, like The Cars and The Knack up through Madonna and The Go-Gos, all the way to Poison and Bon Jovi.  Authentic arrangements, tight harmonies, a surefire song list, high energy performances, and a sense of fun are what set us apart from your average rock band.  Especially the fun part…you just can’t take yourself too seriously when you play this stuff.” Band members include: Danielle Hardaman – Vocals; Michael Weidenbach – Bass, Vocals; Mike Tucker – Guitar, Vocals; Glenn Freeman – Keys, Guitar, Vocals; and Steve Lucas – Drums. Their website is:    www.M-80s.com and you can also find them on Facebook:  www.facebook.com/80srock

Pimp My Pick!

Hey Clayton fans! Have you ever gotten custom guitar picks from us, but wanted to do something creative to help show them off? Check out Pimp My Pick at https://www.facebook.com/PimpMyPick. Pimp My Pick is a company that “will turn bass and guitar picks into necklaces that can forever be worn and displayed for all to see!” You can send them your favorite band or guitarist’s guitar/bass pick and they will transform it into rock art you can wear. “People will stop you in the street to comment on your rockin pick!”
They provide the service of wire wrapping your pick and attaching it to a comfortable leather necklace. The wire wrapping will securely hold your pick WITHOUT requiring any damage to the pick (example: making a hole through the pick). Keep in mind that the company does not provide the actual picks, so the best way to Pimp Your Pick is to create and order some custom picks from Clayton, Inc., at www.claytoncustom.com, and then get your necklaces made!

Rock Your Wedding!

This week at Steve Clayton, Inc., we had a really nice design submitted by a customer for guitar picks for his wedding. We wanted to write a blog about it, simply because the art is really cool! As you can see, the artwork includes a guitar, flames, roses, and the date of the wedding. The colors go really nicely together, and look awesome on our white delrin guitar pick material. The other side of the pick has the same design, but with the name of the happy couple instead of the date. Custom guitar picks can make a unique addition to any wedding. They are already pretty popular, but we want even more people to know about this option! This is why we have created a new website: customweddingpicks.com. This site is designed specifically to help out customers that are interested in custom wedding picks. We are always looking for more ideas to add to the site too! If you have photos of your custom picks from your wedding, or a cool wedding pick design like the one shown here, or have any questions about wedding picks, please write to us at weddingpicks@steveclayton.com. To start designing your picks, visit claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — MESSER

This week’s Pick of the Week is an awesome, high-detail design submitted by the band MESSER. Here is some info about them from their Reverbnation site:

“MESSER started writing late July 2009. With only a handful of shows since then, the Dallas, Texas, group has raised the attention of industry and fans alike by the lightning fast rise of popularity, both locally and nationally. Although some bands prefer not to be compared to anyone, MESSER finds that fans of Soundgarden’s candor, Velvet Revolver’s swagger and the grind of Motley Crue’s music are taking notice. Their music can be described as a nod to the 90’s, with their roots firmly planted in the present, while still honing their original sound for 2011 and beyond. Together Javier Contreras – Guitar/Vocals, Dereak – Lead vocals, Kenn Youngar – Drums, and Maddox – Bass/Vocals, provide somewhat of a local super group assault on the senses.” Find out more about MESSER at reverbnation.com/messer. The pick shown is a red delrin pick, in a .50mm gauge, rounded triangle shape. Design your own custom picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Picks for a Cause!

During the past week, we have had the opportunity to make custom guitar picks to promote an awesome cause. We are excited about this organization, and we are so glad that they chose us to help support them! The Save the Ta-tas® Foundation and ta-tas® Brand was created by clothing designer Julia Fikse as a way to fight breast cancer using laughter and fun as a way to fight a serious disease. Her playful line of t-shirts and accessories include messages such as “save the ta-tas” and “friends don’t let friends lose ta-tas.”  Her messages of hope and humor have reached thousands of victims and survivors of breast cancer and have helped them to fight the disease with both strength and courage. ta-tas® Brand, which was started in 2004, donates 5% of gross sales year around to fight cancer. This is a unique, high and very risky commitment. They realize that women and families need support NOW so they also have an annual scholarship contest, support the Revlon Run Walk for Women and donate product year-round to independent fundraisers so others can raise funds for their favorite cancer charity. For more information, please visit www.savethetatas.com. The Save the Ta-tas picks were created, appropriately, on our pink delrin picks. To design your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick Art

We have had some customers submit some really cool pick art recently, and we wanted to show off these designs! All of them are very colorful, and they were created using various types of artwork. The pick on the far left was made using a cartoon image, on our white delrin picks. The center pick has a painting on it, which appears 3D on our white pearl picks. The pick on the far right uses a nice photo of northern lights to create a unique look. For full color art such as the designs shown here, we offer three different white pick materials that can support these types of designs. This image is a great way to compare how the three types of white picks (white delrin, white pearl, and acetal) are different from each other. Also, we have two picks in this image (the  two outside picks) that demonstrate use of the full bleed option. Choosing full bleed for your custom picks means that the design will go all the way to the edge of the pick and not have a border. Create your own custom pick design today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — Manifest Destiny

This week’s Pick of the Week is for Manifest Destiny, a band made up of longtime fans of The Dictators who never got a chance to see them live due to the geographic (and perhaps cultural) isolation of Fresno, CA. Comprised of local longtime musicians, Manifest Destiny (www.manifestdestinyrocks.com) is a musical tribute to The Dictators which aims to save rock and roll, or have the most fun failing in the attempt. Their genre definition is Rock, Rock & Roll, Proto-Punk, Post-Glam Rock, The Missing Link. Band members include Marvelous Jonny Manbeef (vocals), Zinck (guitar), Essé (drums), Squink (bass), Ross The Boss Too (guitar). They have an upcoming show too, on May 14th! Check them out on Facebook at:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Manifest-Destiny-A-Tribute-to-The-Dictators/135507956517828. Their custom pick artwork, which is highly detailed and colorful, was printed on our acetal pick material. Design your own custom guitar picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — Megan Redmond

This week’s featured pick was created for country music artist and songwriter Megan Redmond,  from Denver, CO. She has a beautiful design with great colors that turned out really well on our acetal picks.  Here is some information about Megan’s work, taken from her website: “Megan’s vocal strength and sound have been compared to a young Faith Hill with a pinch of Alison Krauss.  Megan’s music, and the covers she chooses, lean towards creating a fun, energetic emotional experience that all her fans can personally relate to. At only 15 years old, Megan Redmond is already making an impressionable impact on Nashville’s songwriting community.  Her ability to write radio-ready material to the likes of veteran Nashville songwriters has earned her the opportunities to collaborate with some of country music’s best.  A historical comparison is being made to the age and development of the songwriting strengths and ability of Taylor Swift.  Her songwriting skills are being sought by seasoned songwriters to bring her youthful relevance, energy, and creativity. Megan’s youthful spirit, combined with her mature sound and lyrical prowess, will be a fan favorite for audiences of all ages.  The only thing missing is her driver’s license. Megan has performed at numerous fairs and festivals around Colorado , and a number of renowned Nashville venues, as both an artist and songwriter. These venues include the world famous Bluebird Café,  12th and Porter, The Listening Room, and  many others. Megan’s fans and Nashville’s music business community are surprised when they find out just how mature and talented this teenager is.  Her stage presence and vocals, the depth of her songwriting, and her incredible focus and drive set her apart from the rest.” Visit http://www.meganredmond.com to learn more! Full Color Black Celluloid

We wanted to show off an example of an awesome full color design for black celluloid custom guitar picks that one of our customers submitted. The design is pretty intricate and has a lot of detail, but it turned out really well. We love how the white and bright blue contrast against the black color of the pick. You can create a design like this on our custom guitar pick site: www.claytoncustom.com. Be sure to choose black celluloid as your pick material if you would  like to get awesome black glossy finish picks like the one shown. If your design has any color besides white, you will need to choose the option for full color print. Great colors for black picks include yellow, bright blue, bright green, and red. Black celluloid picks are available in the standard pick shape, and in three gauges; thin, medium and heavy. Create your design today!!

Pick of the Week — The Whiners Band

This week’s Pick of the Week is for a band called “The Whiners.” The design was printed on our acetal picks, and we liked how they used a full bleed option to put their logo on the top half of the pick. Here is a little info about the band, taken from their website: “Jamie and Keith are The Whiners. Consider them NOS. NOS? Musicians who are into equipment and gear will know NOS means “New Old Stock”. They are based in Toronto, and they were originated by Keith in 1998. The band’s a wee bit aggressive-folk sounding, often stepping into a harder electric sound.  The lads create original & sometimes quirky tunes with occasional covers to taste. Perhaps: “rockfolk-folkrock-alt-countryblues”. Ah, let’s just call it ‘whinersmusic.'” To find out more about The Whiners, or to check out their album, Happy Accident, visit www.thewhinersband.com. Pick of the Week — Adelaide

This week’s Pick of the Week was created for a band called Adelaide. We really liked the detail of their design…it looks awesome on our white delrin picks. Adelaide is a metal band from Chicago IL composed of four high school seniors.  They started 3 years ago and are playing some awesome shows. Last year they competed against several bands in a “battle of the bands” competition for the genre of metal and won… they were titled “Winners of 2010 Metal night” and Kings of metal. The demand to see their band live is increasing every show and has given them the thought of possibly going on a Midwest tour this summer. They are on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/officialadelaide) and are currently working on their official website which is under construction and will be viewable soon.  The art work for the pick came from the cover of their first album. This week’s Pick of the Week was created by a band called AlcolicA.“AlcolicA is a Metallica Tribute Band from Pisa, Italy. The project was born in 2004 with a dream on members’ minds: creating a live show which was the closest to Metallica’s performance. With outstanding obstinacy, the four managed to set up an impressive setlist, featuring ’80s legendary favourites and many of the ’90s metal hymns which contributed to their idols’ fame.Boasting many years of live performance, with more than a hundred gigs on their roadbook, Alcolica has performed on the most important stages in the Tuscan region..But that’s just the beginning! .. ..” Be sure to check out their site at www.myspace.com/alcolicabandpisa Their art was put on our acetal picks, and we really like the variety of color…it turned out really well on the semi-transparent white material. They are best known for their software, Switch Ensemble, that allows individuals with disabilities to play music. Steve Clayton, Inc., had the opportunity to make some guitar picks recently for this company. We thought that the design for the picks was really cool, and looked great on our white delrin material, so we decided to contact the creator (Jon Adams) to see if we could post a blog with the design in it. This is how we discovered that he is involved in this wonderful venture! We urge you to check out the site for Switch In Time at www.switchintime.com.  You can also check out the link for a special needs band that Jon teaches at http://www.switchintime.com/headbangers/. Pick of the Week — Scarlet Fade

This week’s Pick of the Week is for a band called Scarlet Fade. They chose our red delrin custom guitar picks, and we really loved the black graphic that they had for artwork. “What began as a group of teen musicians with a fresh, energetic sound has quickly taken the regional music scene by storm. The power behind Scarlet Fade comes from four siblings– Ali, Jordan, Jaimee, and Jake. Their rock/pop style has been influenced by bands like Switchfoot, NeedtoBreathe, The Elms, Flyleaf, and The Beatles. With a grass-roots local presence, the band has consistently won awards for performance and songwriting, and has shared the stage with other legends like Switchfoot, Lifehouse, Copeland, NeedtoBreathe, Superchick, Peter Tork (from The Monkees), and others. Much of their music draws its inspiration from personal life experience, faith, and the desire to give people a hope for the future. Many have defined their music as inspirational.  The secret to their success remains Scarlet Fade’s ability to  relate to their audience,  blending the struggles of life into a high-energy, captivating stage show that has touched the hearts of an ever-expanding loyal fan base of all ages. The name, Scarlet Fade, is inspired from the verse Isaiah 1:18 ‘though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow'”.
