Pick of the Week — Glazz

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for Glazz, a young but experienced trio from Spain that mixes Jazz, Prog Rock, Funk and World Music.
Since 2008 they have released 2 albums by themselves, and a third coming. Their new goal is to sell their music in the U.S., where they’re planning to go next year, and they’re looking for a label to work with.
In almost two years, since their first album was released, they’ve played in many different festivals such as the Havana’s Jazz Plaza, Manchester Jazz Festival or Lago de Bornos with bands like Premiata Forneira Marconi, and have traveled around the United Kingdom, Japan and the Middle East.

You can check out their website: www.glazzmusic.com, where you can listen to some samples of their last album called ‘Cirquelectric,'” a 78 minute conceptual album which has been very well received, both by press and well-known musicians.

You can buy their music at the i-tunes store, or order a CD by clicking here.

We at Clayton absolutely love the high detail and artistic quality of the Glazz custom guitar picks. They were made on our acetal pick material, with an overbleed so that the design goes all the way to the edge of the pick. D. Liapakis (MYSTIC PROPHECY etc.) and mega-producer Chris Tsangarides (THIN LIZZY, JUDAS PRIEST, GARY MOORE, DEPECHE MODE, BRUCE DICKINSON, OZZY OSBOURNE, MALMSTEEN, HELLOWEEN etc.)! Pick of the Week — Caramelos De Cianuro/UnEnano

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for UnEnano, a guitar player in the Latin band Caramelos de Cianuro, from Venezuela. The band was formed in 1991. They recorded their first songs, “Nadando a Través De la Galaxia” (Swimming Across the Galaxy) and “Tu Mamá Te Va a Pegar” (Your mom is going to hit you), in 1992.

A year later, the group signed up to CNR and released an EP called Las Paticas de la Abuela (Grandma’s Little Feet), followed by the band’s first album, Cuentos Para Adultos (Tales for Adults), in 1994. Performing a mixture of Latin Punk and alternative rock, Caramelos de Cianuro returned in 1996 with Harakiri City, released by Polygram. Two years later, original drummer Pablo Martínez was replaced by Alfonso Tosta, and the group soon toured with Colombian band Aterciopelados. In 2000 they released their album Miss Mujerzuela (Miss Whore), which achieved platinum status in Venezuela in 2001. In 2006 they released their second most recent album, Flor De Fuego, (Flower of Fire) with “Como Serpiente” (Like Snake) promoted as the lead off single. In the year 2010 the group released their latest album “Caramelos de Cianuro”.

UnEnano’s guitar picks were made out of our white delrin pick material. One one side the picks have UnEnano’s name with a pair of wings, which was inspired by the wing tattoos on his back. On the other side, there is a thumbprint that marks exactly where he holds the picks when he plays, which we thought was very clever! Pick of the Week — The Dirty Flirts

The week’s Pick of the Week was created for the band The Dirty Flirts. The Dirty Flirts were born out of the love of being an avid Runaways fan and lover of Female Fronted Bands in the Punk/Rock genres. Momma Dukes (drummer) flirted (ha ha) with the idea with Dawn Sweet (Lead Vox) and after seeking out other like-minded dirty flirts like themselves they found another talented Fem Fatale “T” (Rhythm Axe), and one energized rocker Rob Luv (Lead Axe). Having a bass player issue…, and gone through two so far since the bands’ inception, they found their permanent bass player Lorenzo who, despite being a generation younger, loves their choice of music and is an enthusiastic as well as talented addition to the Dirty Flirts. With enough practice under their chastity ;-P belts they had a very well received debut gig and are presently rockin at select gigs! Because all of the members’ lifestyles have always included music in some form or another, this band was a natural fit for them, as well as for the next generation of rock and rollers. Their fans are peers in the industry, so when they are at a gig, it suddenly becomes a live jam that all the crazed groupies love being a part of, whether it’s on the stage jamming or dancing and grabbing each other during the shows. So leave your morals and your attitudes at the door and party with The Dirty Flirts!

Pick of the Week — Zero Recall Band

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the Zero Recall band. “The band is relatively new, and is an all out, fun time cover band from New York City. The members of the band are mostly financial services people during the day and closeted, wannabe rock and roll stars at night. The goal every time they play is to make awesome music and to make the crowd dance and sing along.  They all come from different backgrounds and draw from many musical genres for their performances.  They’re doing classic rock hits 70’s- 2k’s and they are starting to get a decent following. NY city bar based rock and roll is what they are delivering, and a good time is pretty much a guarantee!” To find out more about Zero Recall, visit their site at http://www.zerorecallband.com/ or check them out on Facebook! The Zero Recall band picks were made on our white pearl material, which gives the awesome flames in their design a nice 3D quality. To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Up a Creek

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Up a Creek. “Up a Creek is a Bellevue based shed bred group of fellas playing Southern Idaho Folk ‘n Roll. Featuring original song writing, the band can best describe their music as a mix of folk and rock…Acoustic guitars. Electric guitars. Whats the difference? Its all in the story.  These boys tell a lot of stories. Stories about lovers and losers, sinners and fools.  Sifting through the pieces. Redemption always seeming to be just a bit out of reach.  So come on out and join their friends and families for some drinkin and strummin small town honky tonkin! Just a few black eyes and angry wives!” Find out more about Up a Creek at http://upacreekmusic.com. The Up a Creek picks were made on our colored pearl guitar pick material. These picks can be custom color matched as well as having a custom design print. Up a Creek chose a rustic brown/red color that suites their style, and they feature their simple and clean black logo for a really professional look. Steelshot

During a time when Richmond was considered stock full of cookie cutter bands all striving for 15 minutes of  fame, the club of “You Tubers” and screaming kids with tight jeans hanging from theirbacksides; a new sound of southern country hard rock songs began to hit the streets and at the reigns of that sound was Steelshot. Steelshot was formed from a few riffs by guitarist/songwriter Jason Yarbrough who began by tinkering around with the southern sound of his influences such as Lynyrd Skynyrd to the new wave of heavy hard rock from Black Label Society and mixing those sounds into one. It wasn’t long after that his new project found a solid foundation with fellow musicians whose style seems to fit like puzzle pieces cut to match in all the right places. A familiar sound long forgotten by radio & mainstream media could be heard from the song room, yet breaking ground with a new genre; Country Metal was the result. This new sound, unforgettable to any listener within reach, is original and creative leaving you wanting more. After 3 years of lineup changes, break-ups and reconciliations the trials and tribulations have ended in perfection. From their long awaited debut self-titled EP release in the summer of 2011 there is “Alive Again” and “In Too Deep”, giving audiences hard hittingwhite-knuckle fast driving beats. Then there are the more southern or country rooted songs such as “Never Understand” and “Southern Pride” establishing the anthem sound that is Steelshot. The sky is limitless for these artists with intense ambition and drive, they are set continue to working on their seconded release for 2012 becoming their first full length collection of original new music. Steelshot has shared the stage with a various local and regional bands such as Bullistic, White Knuckle Battery, Memory Fade, Proverbial, Thunderbrew, Automag, Silvertung, as well as national acts Faultline, Zoso the Led Zeppelin Experience, Die Cast, Mensrea, and Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real just to name a few. Tired of the stock metal riffs and same repeated melodic leads, guitarist Jason Yarbrough felt something was missing; true down to earth rock n’ roll. After his years as a rhythm guitarist in Richmond groups Strikethrew and Transylvania Stud, he decided it was time to begin a new project which had no limits to genre or style. During the summer of 2008 Jason started sessions with long time friend, and classically trained jazz drummer Brian Shaw. After a few songs composed with just drums and guitar, a common friend suggested they give a tryout to local bassist Mike “Frog” Barham, whose low ended bass style comes from heavy metal 80’s groups who influenced him when he started performing at Chicago night clubs while still in high school. The first jam session is all it took and shortly thereafter they began working on ideas that would later become the standard sound for Steelshot, a new kind of southern country metal. “Never Understand”, “Southern Pride” and “In Too Deep” were the results and thus began the adventure. Fast forward a few months later and numerous new songs later, to the search for the voice that would later define the original sound of Steelshot; a singer who showed up with melodies and lyrics in hand. Enter Josh Duncan; a singer/songwriter whose voice can be heard on Nashville recordings and sessions with other country artists. His southern style and low noted country draw gives Steelshot the final touch that was needed to complete this power group of musicians. That December, Steelshot performed their debut show to a sold out New Years Eve event and with only 4 songs after 3 weeks with a final lineup. They performed with the talent of national artists and never stopped for the next year to follow. After numerous shows and a year of traveling between Richmond and New York the toll took its debt and drummer Brian Shaw was replaced for a short time with long time friend and fellow drummer Jon Ward (Faultline) who was able to keep the performances going until the break-up in late 2009. After a year of trying to work with new projects and no success, Jay called Mike and suggested they get together for a fun jam session of old times and good songs. Brian and Josh both returned and the original lineup began a few shows of what was thought to be just an affair for good times. But after attracting attention from labels and producers the 4 of them decided to finally record an EP and see what happens. Not long after the recordings, it was decided to add a second guitarist to perform to likeness of the EP on the live stage. Lee Waldron who was an open jam artist and friend of Josh’s filled in for a few performances but it was never a permanent relationship and he later left to persue his love for blues. As if that wasn’t more than enough hard times for Steelshot and their lineup stability, drummer Brian Shaw departed the band once again for personal reasons. It was not long after that drummer T.J. Sutherland from Pike Possum and guitarist Ryan Nuttle formerly of Boss Keen’s Ditch were hired on as full-time members. Finally, after the breaks and the lineup changes over the years, Steelshot began working on writing and demo recording sessions for their debut full length label release album set for sometime in 2012. *The self-titled EP “Steelshot” can be purchased at every show, online at iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon or by visiting their online store at www.reverbnation.com/steelshot

Pick of the Week — Lovely Goodbye

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Lovely Goodbye. Lovely Goodbye began as a rock band comprised of four friends from the hills of Appalachia in Johnson City, Tennessee. Coming together from Classic Rock, Punk, Country, and Progressive backgrounds, Lovely Goodbye has evolved from each member’s influences into one of East Tennessee’s premiere original bands. All the members sought to keep the the core principles of the best music alive: professionalism, fun, and a quality live show. The best rock artists combine anthem-like lyrics, a voice that clings to the edge of strong guitar riffs and progressions, and a tight rhythm section that marches the listener through the album and back to the beginning, ready for more. Opening for many national touring acts, they saved up enough to record and released their debut Self Titled album in 2010, with a follow-up expected in 2012. Recently, the band has added a rhythm guitarist to let singer, Sean McCurry, focus his attention on fully being a frontman and entertainer.

Lovely Goodbye is Sean McCurry, Jeff Dotson, Brandon Lambert, Bryan Gibson, and Max Crawford

Blackbird Sing

We just endorsed the band Blackbird Sing and wanted to share a little bit about the band! Blackbird Sing began in 2010 as the brainchild of Robert Vito Salinas, former singer songwriter of the now defunct, but seminal, “Dieboy” of 1990’s pop-punk fame.  After 13 years Dieboy eventually called it quits in 2006 due to personal differences in the bands direction.  The self-imposed hiatus would almost see the exit of a talented musician, whom after years of being a fixture in the local music scene, was facing the reality of making a living setting in.  It was during these times that Vito continued to use songwriting as an artistic outlet and penned his most emotionally connected songs to date. Vito delved deep into a musical heritage that extended across multiple styles of music due to the influences of the musical tastes of his numerous uncles and cousins, who had introduced him to their favorite artists ranging from The Beatles to The Ramones. However, it was these soul-wrenching songs, written at such a transcendent moment that would sow the first seeds of what would grow into something larger. Vito began collaborating his vision with Andy Salazar also of Dieboy (lead guitar/piano/trumpet) and together the two began consolidating this reality-driven storytelling with experimental forays into blending folk music and country rock with grass-roots Americana.  As the band grew to include George Ransom on bass and the infamous Magallanez brothers, Daniel and James, on drums, percussions, guitar, and harmonica (along with a virtual cornucopia of various sound-making equipment), their sound began to coalesce into something entirely nonpareil. Vito and the Magallanez brothers are first cousins, and growing up so closely allowed them to bring a very close-knit, personal style that made the transition from their previous bands into Blackbird Sing seamless. “We definitely shared a very similar soundtrack growing up and come from a very diverse musical family.”  Heavily Influenced by a menagerie of artists like Cat Stevens, The Stray Cats, Dion and the Belmonts, Social Distortion, The Clash, and Chris Isaak, Blackbird Sing ambitiously set out to create a sound that Vito has described as, “Music that people who like country rock but don’t like rock could enjoy and that people who like rock but don’t like country rock could equally relish.”  And so, in 2010, Blackbird Sing the alt-folk Americana country rock band was born. In less than a year, Blackbird Sing’s seamless blend of modern musical genres combined with heartfelt lyrics that resonate with large swathes of the audience on an individual level catapulted them to the attention of music lovers and critics throughout Texas.  From their first stage performance in June of 2010 at a venue call Club Tonic, Blackbird Sing’s acclaim began skyrocketing, and people began to take notice. In 2010, Robert Vito won the prestigious Rammy award for top vocalist in the San Antonio Texas local music scene and the band as a whole was selected as runner up for best Country/Americana band in the same year. Taking no time to rest while on their meteoric rise to prominence, the band quickly cut a fantastic self-titled EP (to much critical exaltation) the same year.   This showcased the bands chemistry with each member playing an intricate role in the development of the “Texicana” sound.  With a style that echoed shades of current popular folk/country rock bands like Wilco and The Avett Brothers, it wasn’t very long before Blackbird Sing began to spread its influence throughout the region. The self-styled “Heirs of Bexar” (the county in which the city of San Antonio resides) used singles such as the lament-driven “Manxiety” and the esoteric “Hales” to elevate themselves above the masses of garage bands and artistic dilettantes in an industry starved for originality. Their efforts culminated in their being the only band from San Antonio selected to compete in the esteemed Shiner Rising Stars tournament, which brings together the best Texas has to offer in musical acts to vie for the ultimate title of Shiner’s 2011 Rising Star.  Travelling far outside of their sphere of influence and their hometown fans, Blackbird Sing won the contest and is now currently signed to Shiner Records which will be releasing their debut album in early 2012. Seldom has a band so seamlessly blended the swaggering bravado of punk, the emotively captivating lyrics of the grandest forms of folk, rural country music aesthetics, the experimentation of an indie band with nothing to lose, and good old fashioned Americana that can only be described as exclusively their own.  And yet, even though they’ve accomplished more in one year than most bands do in a lifetime, the boys remain humble and focused.  Already at work on their next musical masterpiece, they haven’t changed their focus.  If asked, Vito will tell it like he has countless times before “It’s not how you play. It’s what you play that really matters.”

Pick of the Week — Ashturn

We are excited to present this week’s Pick of the Week, which was made for the band Ashturn. “Ashturn is a Flemish (Belgian) band formed by Steve (drums), Raf (bass) and Mark (guitar) in 2003.  After about a year of rehearsals and song writing Raf switched his bass guitar for a microphone and Tom joined the band as the new bass player.  Dennis, who used to be in another band with Steve and Raf, joined the band as the second guitar player a few months later.  8 years later, Ashturn still has the same line-up.  They are a bunch of very good friends who mainly want to have fun and who really enjoy making music together (which is probably the reason they have already survived this long as a band).

“Ashturn plays a healthy mix of metal and hardcore and is influenced by a lot of modern and classic bands in both these genres.  They’ve played a lot of gigs in youth clubs, rock bars and on the occasional festival, mainly in the Flemish part of Belgium but also occasionally abroad.  One of the festival gigs they played was the result of Ashturn getting the most votes from the audience at a local rock contest.  Their latest recording effort is an EP called “Heaven or a dark cold day in hell” which can be listened to for free in it’s entirety at www.ashturn.com. ”

“Ashturn is at the moment rehearsing for some upcoming gigs.  In about two months time work will begin on some new songs which will hopefully lead to new recording sessions later. ”
To learn more about Ashturn, visit any of the following sites:

Website: www.ashturn.com
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ashturn/20845893339
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/ashturnmusic
Bass player Tom talks about his experience with Clayton guitar picks:

“As a bass player, I’ve always preferred the bigger rounded triangle shape picks.  I play a down tuned 5 string bass so I need something to grab on to while furiously hitting the B string 🙂  I had been using the same picks for years (made by a major brand) so I started to look for a company that could make me some picks with a custom design that are also equally comfortable as the ones I was used too.  This took a lot of research.  No company seemed to offer the right combination of materials, thickness, shape and printing possibilities that I was looking for until I found the website of Clayton Custom.  A few minutes of trying out the fantastic custom guitar pick designer led me to the conclusion that my search had ended.  For the design I chose one of the very nice band logo’s that was made by our guitar player Mark Vandebroek. Once the picks arrived I was extremely happy with the quality.  These picks definitely offer the comfort I was looking for.  On top of that, they were actually a tiny bit stiffer than the ones from my old brand which actually improved the clear, natural but also very punchy sound I am always looking for!  So, great job by Clayton custom!  Now I just need to make sure I can hold on to them as everyone I show them to (fans, fellow musicians, family and friends)  wants to keep one for him/herself!
Ashturn’s picks were made on our acetal guitar pick material, in the rounded triangle shape. We especially like how the shape of the picks fit really nicely with the band logo. To create and order your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Tallboy

We just wanted to share Tallboy’s Announcement of their new single with you!

After having successfully released two previous albums, We Aren’t The Championsin 2009 and This Logic Will Destroy Us in 2011 Tallboy  www.facebook.com/Tallboymusic gears up to release their third installment “Expectations and Resentment”, and have decided to give the fans / public a single “Subtle” before the hard release on July 24th, 2012.  It’s become evident that the direction of writing with lyrics and composition has evolved based on the fans response to the prior releases. Staying true to their high energy music definitely runs con-current with Tallboy’s exhausting off the hook live show that can be described as a hyperactive Tasmanian Devil out to cause mayhem and chaos in the constant use of antics that involve the fans directly. Expectations and Resentment will deliver 11 powerfully insane tracks with the lineup and order TBA in the CD Press Release … July.  “Through our constant struggle to explain our surroundings and the people in it we bring you our new chapter, “Expectations and Resentments. Our new single “Subtle” defines the child in us all, escaping the judgement of the rest. With this onslaught of riffs, it’s like a high five to the face…. with a brick.”  quotes Jimmy Roberts, Tallboy’s frontman and lead singer.

Tallboy gave their fans a jolt and teased them with few new tasty treats in untested waters at the show finale of Tortured Souls Tour, April 28th at the Hawthorn Theatre in Portland Oregon. Having never performed at this venue, it was a true test for Tallboy and they certainly did not disappoint as the crowd loved every second of the outrageous stage show. You can hear the new song Subtle here at www.reverbnation.com/tallboy. Tallboy recently signed to Rage On Stage Management where in the next month plans for a short run tour supporting the CD release will be announced. Frank James, President of ROSM www.rageonstagemgmt.com says “It’s one of the most exciting bands I’ve had the pleasure of working with. The undeniable talent and musicianship that Tallboy brings to our roster simply expands our horizons to higher levels.”

Pick of the Week — The Darlins

This week’s Pick of the Week was created for the band The Darlins. “In September of 2008, singer/songwriter and founding member of her former LA based duo, The Darlins, Portland- born guitarist, Jude Toy, asked co-worker and fellow singer/songwriter and Nashville native, Erinn Bates, if she wanted to write and perform together around town. From the first writing appointment, they knew they had something special. Jude’s rocking acoustic guitar and harmonies blended harmoniously with Erinn’s bluegrass-tinged lead vocals and mandolin. In 2009, The Darlins were reborn and opened for country stars Darryl  Worley and Andy Griggs and were asked to take part in the Music City showcase, Alabama Line. Their rootsy harmony-riched sound has helped them play venues like Music City Roots and The Bluebird Cafe as well as have their original songs placed on network television. Listen for their songs on The Sportsman’s Channel’s Dead Dog Walking and The Syndicate as well as ABC’s GCB. To find out more about The Darlins, visit their site at http://www.thedarlins.com/. The Darlins’ picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which makes their hot pink logo really stand out! Create and order your own custom guitar picks at www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Tryst

This week’s Pick of the Week was designed and ordered by Charlton Young for his band, Tryst. Tryst, is a “top 40” acoustic cover band.  They play a lot of the newer pop songs that are coming out and do a lot of mash ups with songs you would never think to mash up.  Their influences include Chevelle, Howie Day, Boyce Avenue, Cee-lo green, Jason Derulo, Oasis, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Pink, and Ke$ha. The band has been around for a few years, but Charlton joined just a couple months ago after their guitar player left without any notice and forced them to cancel a bunch of gigs.  Charlton says that this set-back upset a lot of bar and club owners, so it has been difficult for Tryst to get back into the scene, but slowly they are getting back out there.  Find out more about Tryst on their website at www.tryst-chicago.com

Tryst’s custom guitar picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, and the bright white really makes their vibrant red logo “pop!” To create and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — James Cademan

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for musician James Cademan. “James Cademan is no stranger on the local scene of Sarasota, Florida where he
currently writes, performs, records, and mixes his original music. Cademan’s
music style denotes a contemporary folk sound as it has an easy listening,
melancholy driven pulse. The lyrics are pondering, evocative and full of life
experiences, reflective of styles from bands such as 3 Doors Down and Creed.
In 2009, Cademan left a position as VP of a nationally known Food Service
Consulting firm to pursue writing and performing music full time.  Since then
he has released his debut album entitled “Unplugged and Away”, an EP
containing five acoustic versions of his most popular songs.  The album is
available on iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Emusic and many more online outlets.
Best Buy Music has also released the album in stores in September 2011.  To
listen and purchase autographed CD’s visit www.jamescademan.com/store.cfm

Cademan plays as a solo act and in live performances. He plays Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar and/or Keyboards.  He has chosen both the black celluloid picks and the .05mm red colored delrin (shown at right) picks with the iconic Cademan Wings logo on it.  The black celluloid picks are offered as give aways at shows and also have been turned into jewelry and accessories which can be purchased at shows and at the online store (www.jamescademan.com/store.cfm). Cademan selected the .05mm red colored delrin picks because of the sure grip, soft feel and mellow tone they provide when playing acoustically. To create and design your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com.

Cademan designed the iconic Cademan Wings logo to symbolize an experience he had years ago as a teen.  One night he was awakened with the distinct and uneasy feeling that someone was watching him.  There standing next to his bed was a dark shadow-like figure wearing a wide brimmed “gaucho” style hat and along black cape.  Although the room was pitch black, the outline of the figure was blacker than the dark.  Feeling that the shadow figure’s intentions were evil he found the courage to jump out of bed and run out of the room. Returning to the room a while later, the figure was gone. On the next night Cademan was once again awakened by a visitor. Only this time there was no dark entity.  Instead, there was a giant man with short blonde hair wearing a white toga and crimson sash standing at the foot of his bed. He was at least seven feet tall.  Interestingly though he did not have wings as you might think an angel would.  The angel never moved his mouth but James distinctly heard him say “I am Cademan.  I’ve been sent to protect you”. After these experiences, Cademan (aka,  Jim Richards), believed someone was watching over him and since then the name “Cademan” took on the meaning of “Protection, Guidence and Success”.   In 2008, James assumed the name “Cademan” as his stage name….because, to him, the name is associated with success.  Thus, the iconic sweeping angel wing design and “Cademan” emboldened in the logo design was created to represent strength and success. (Listen to the entire story of Cademan’s angel experience by visiting the February 2, 2012 blog entry at www.jamescademan.com/blog.cfm). Cademan is currently recording his sophomore album entitled “Next Life Now”, set for release in Winter 2012/Spring 2013.  He is also preparing to tour the Summer of 2012 with The Extreme Tour.  Visit www.jamescademan.com for tour dates and cities.”

Pick of the Week — Scarlet Machine

This week’s featured Pick of the Week was made for the band Scarlet Machine. “Scarlet Machine is a four-piece rock band made up of teens from the San Francisco Bay Area. These young musicians are making music like it used to be: jamming, not manufacturing. With roots in jazz, rock and funk, Scarlet Machine is about musicianship, great songs, and energetic performances. What you see is what you get.
All too often, bands in concert sound nothing like their CD. Scarlet Machine refuses to be one of those bands. Scarlet Machine draws from a wide array of inspirations because its members are so different. Kyle’s main inspirations are bands like Creed and Paramore. Keller’s inspirations roll to Queen and Radiohead. Nick’s include AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses. Matt’s are bands like A Day to Remember and The Devil Wears Prada.
Kyle says: “We are sort of like a recipe of rock. Each of us is a certain ingredient that wouldn’t be very good by itself, but combined it tastes amazing!” Their latest studio effort, “On Fire” was released September 24th, 2011 and was recorded and engineered by Teddy Gyi, mixed by Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios and mastered by Brad Gillis of Night Ranger.Scarlet Machine will be applying their creative ingenuity to a new studio effort due for release in late 2012. Scarlet Machine will get your blood pumping. Their energy, passion and skill promise audiences nothing less than a true rock show.”

To find out more about Scarlet Machine, visit their facebook page at http://www.scarletmachine.com/. Scarlet Machine’s custom guitar picks were made on our acetal material, and we loved the intricacy of their design. To create and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Ghost Train Trio

This Week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Ghost Train Trio. The custom picks were designed and ordered by Clayton Customer Pat Mackinnon, who is the Ghost Train Trio vocalist, guitar-slinger and songwriter. “His original vision was to combine rock, surf and country with a Rat Pack chaser. When double bassist Joel Putzier and drummer Dan Cunneen saddled-up to the bar, the Mackinnon vision was fulfilled. In just a few short months Ghost Train Trio has skillfully taken the bite and swagger of hard-rock and blended it with Sun-era Elvis, Dick Dale’s twang and Tony Joe White’s soulful “Polk Salad” swamp. To round out their sound, they tossed in a dash of Willie Dixon’s electrified blues and a touch of Waylon and Willie’s outlaw drawl. Put it all together and you get Ghost Train Trio. (The band happily defies easy classification, so until somebody comes up with something better, the tongue-tied “hard-rocking, bluesy and soulful outlaw countrypolitan surf” will just have to do.)
With titles like “Lonesome Road” and “Brother to the Wind”, Mackinnon’s songs reflect isolation and a restless movement that no doubt springs from his formative years in the 49th state. Like all good songwriters, a common thread runs though Mackinnon’s material, but the songs aren’t just re-writes of the last one. Each distinct tune stands on its own and stands up to the last. Mackinnon’s voice echoes a rough-hewn crooner – meandering the wide gulf between Bob Dylan and Dean Martin – with a touch of the trademark Rotten snarl for good measure. Lyrically, he touches on themes of running, from your past – and your demons, and then making another dash for the next boundary. Ghost Train Trio has found the right mix musically, with their personalities and their style. Even when playing a jazzy song like “Just a Shame” or a dark ballad like “Evelyn”, Ghost Train Trio’s rock roots are clear – but not obvious. Put simply, even when they don’t rock, they do.”   -Gary Karconclion, The Puget Sound Perspective

Pat was kind enough to write about his experience with Clayton Picks:

“I’ve been using Clayton picks exclusively for many years. I used to get really frustrated with standard plastic picks because they would easily break and get grooves along the sides from running my pick up and down the strings. Also the gloss finish always felt a little slippery in my fingers. When I discovered Clayton Acetal picks I fell in love with them and have never turned back. They don’t break, they hold up to all kinds of abuse and they grip your fingers and stay put. They will wear down after a while but whenever I notice that one of my picks is worn down around the end I know that I have put a lot of time in on my guitar with that particular pick and that’s a good feeling. I used to play with 1 mm which are great for fast picking and heavy attack. But with Ghost Train Trio I switch from electric to acoustic quite a bit and I like using a thinner pick on an acoustic so now I’m using the .8 mm because it has some flexibility which I like for acoustic srumming and is still firm enough to support fast picking and give me some crunch when I need it. So when I realized that I could make my own custom printed Clayton Picks I was thrilled and wasted no time in placing my order. Now I’ve got my favorite picks with my own cool design on it. It’s a great thing!”

The Ghost Train Trio picks were made on our Acetal guitar pick material, and we really liked the look of their full bleed yellow and black design. To create and order your own custom picks, be sure to visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Freaky Urban Troopers

The chosen Pick of the Week this week was made for the band Freaky Urban Troopers. They are a funk-rock/progressive-rock band from Vienna/Austria founded in 2011 who are currently starting out, playing (and winning;) several band-contests with national and international gigs and recording their first album in summer 2012. Here is a bio taken from their official site at http://www.freakyurbantroopers.com/:

Groovy beats, funky rock-guitars, freaky rhythms, fantastic melodies and a voice which enlightens your soul with pure desire and deliciousness. We come to rock your house, whatever you are up to. You may have heard of urban legends? …well…then you will probably like THIS:

Legend has it that it all started out as a songwriting-project between Juri and Michi in a shabby little students’ apartment in the slums of Alsergrund, Vienna, back in the late last decade, growing with the congeniality of their comrades in arms into something more inspiring, inconceivably ingenious and thriving than they would have ever imagined (isn’t it nice to be so down to earth besides being extremely modest at the same time?). Others say it was pure determination…or neither of it…who will ever know?

Fact is, that five talented artists with music in their heart and full devotion to their musical goals are on a mission to spread their freaky urban sound among their audience, keeping them procking and grooving. Freaky Urban Troopers are a force to be reckoned with…seriously…

You can also find out more about Freaky Urban Troopers on their facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/freakyurbantroopers.

The Freaky Urban Troopers picks were made on our white pearl material, which nicely supports their detailed red and black logo art. To design and order your own custom made guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week — Tudor Adrian Negru/Ronin/Anomaly

This week’s Pick of the Week was ordered by Clayton customer Tudor Adrian Negru. Tudor is a “previous guitar player in Romanian heavy-metal bands Refractara, Ronin and currently lead-guitar in a newly established band called Anomaly (http://www.facebook.com/anomalybandcluj). With the main influences of the band straying more into the hard-core/metal areas but with a taint of nu-metal and hard-rock, Anomaly tries to bring something unique to the musical scene in Cluj-Napoca and Romania. The band is currently working on writing material for their first demo album which should be finished by July 2012 and have already had several live performances along with some of the most well established and appreciated bands in the scene.
In order to bring that huge metal grind to the overall sound of the band, using heavier string gauges really does make a difference. Still, a common challenge that every guitar player in this genre faces is how to keep the tone tight and defined while also making it easier on yourself when playing heavy gauges.”
Tudor explains how he found Clayton picks: “Having being recommended Clayton USA and being handed a custom Clayton pick some time ago by one of the most established metal guitar players in the field, Balauru’ of Trooper, the search for that missing and much-needed element ended. It wasn’t long until I turned to have my own custom order with Steve Clayton USA. I find it that the Acetal 1.9 mm gauge suits my needs perfectly. The matte finish really keeps the pick where and how you need it to be while the material-gauge combination means that I can finally get that attack, control and tone definition that I was very much searching for even in the middle of a crazy live gig.”
“The custom layout features the above mentioned 1.9 mm Acetal standard shape but with the “Ronin” logo which stands for “one with no lord nor master” inspired by Japanese culture. The custom design was provided by established artist Paul Pantazescu (www.paulpantazescu.com) and in conjunction with Clayton craftsmanship it screams attitude, professionalism and strength.” To order your own custom guitar picks like Tudor’s, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week — Whiskey Twin

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Whiskey Twin. “Whiskey Twin is a Minneapolis band that plays an eclectic mix of rock and alternative covers, in addition to original songs.  The band met through a program at Minneapolis’ Twin Town Guitars, where bands play a set at a local bar after six weeks of rehearsals.  The members of Whiskey Twin enjoyed the experience of playing together so much they wanted to continue and play their own gigs.  They continue to hone their chops through ongoing involvement with one of Twin Town’s instructors, Mark Wade, who is also the bassist for the band The Melismatics.

The band is fronted by Mandy Simmons’ strong, confident and tender vocals.  Mandy is supported by three diverse guitarists; Ed Fruin, Ed Wilms and John Morris.  The band’s heartbeat comes from Tom Parsons on bass, and Tony Scott’s driving drums and occasional primal screams.

The band picked their name as homage to Twin Town Guitars, where they met; and Whiskey Junction, the bar in which they first played together.  Ed Fruin designed the picks and took inspiration from the labels on the bottles of premium spirits.” Whiskey Twins’ picks were made on our white pearl guitar pick material, which best supports parchment background and variety of color in the design. To create your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com!

See http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whiskey-Twin/253379511378342 on Facebook for Whiskey Twin band updates and future gigs.

Pick of the Week — Jeff Strahan

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for blues artist Jeff Strahan.  Jeff usually plays with a three piece band made up of himself (guitar), bass and drums.  He also plays piano and B-3.  Here are a couple reviews of Jeff:

“Strahan is a fiery Texas spirit, a killer guitar player & piano pounder and singer, as wild as the high plains from which he hails, and as cool as the hill country where he lives. He’s as real & strong as lightning, I swear, and I love being around him, to hear how he’s going to knock me out next.” -Walt Wilkins

“Hell, I’m just going to say it: he out Buddy-Guys Stevie Ray.. ., then [he’ll] play guitar and piano simultaneously. He’ll whang a quick rhythm chord and then, with just his right hand, break out a 55-gallon drum of Jerry Lee whupass on the keyboard.”
– Bill Aspinwall, Texas Music Journal (Jul 28, 2009)
To find out more about Jeff Strahan, visit his website at jeffstrahan.com
Jeff’s custom picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which make the bright colors in his design really pop. To design and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
