Strumming for the Cause

A couple weeks ago, we had the opportunity to make guitar picks to help support a wonderful cause. One of our customers, Justin Jacobs, has a passion for guitars and has recently been working on a very special project…building a guitar that he has christened the 65 Roses Guitar. Jacobs himself was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of three, and he explains that kids that age have trouble saying “cystic fibrosis” and it ends up being pronounced like “sixty five roses.”

Because Cystic Fibrosis is still non-curable, Jacobs wanted to take action to help find a cure. He has combined his musical passion with his desire for change to come up with the unique idea of building this special guitar to auction off. In addition, he has gotten the signatures of many celebrities who support his cause, and he will be framing those and auctioning them off as well. He is also currently working on a musical line-up for a benefit concert where he’ll auction off the items and collect the funds to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

560541_426426924144421_826325658_nOur contribution to Justin’s project was to donate custom guitar picks that he can hand out to help spread awareness about his project and what he is trying to accomplish.

Whalin’

TheWhales
One of our Clayton Customers is ready to wail on the  guitar with these custom whale guitar picks! Okay, I admit that I chose these to post on our blog because I thought they were cute, but the design also happened to turn out really well! While  we are able to do pretty detailed custom designs, it is often the more simplistic art, with bold colors and large text, that really turn out the best. These picks were made on our white delrin pick material, which makes the bright blue color really pop! To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com

How many licks? Guitar licks that is…

OwlPicks
This week, we wanted to show off this awesome owl pick design ordered by one of our customers! The owl was printed on our green delrin pick material. There is a high amount of detail in the art, and it looks really nice as a black print on the green background. Delrin picks come in 6 different color/gauges, and are one of our lowest cost picks, starting at 100 for just $34.99! To order your own custom printed guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Out of this World

This week, we wanted to showcase these awesome acetal custom picks with a design created by one of our new endorsed artists! This is a two-sided design that has an incredible amount of detail, but it came out really well on our acetal pick material. As you can see, the art has a black background, and there is a border around it that gives it a clean look on the white color of the picks. There is also a lot of color on top of the black background that makes the art interesting; these picks are definitely eye-catchers!

(Ultem)ate

Here are some cool new custom guitar picks ordered by one of our customers! :

JEFFLATHAM

These picks were made on our classic Ultem material. Ultem picks are known for best resembling the sound quality of a true tortoiseshell pick without being actually made from tortoiseshell. They are light tan/gold in color, and they work great with brown and black designs like the one shown. The shape of these picks is rounded triangle, which is a popular choice amongst bassists. To order your own ultem picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

More Wedding Picks!

Every once in a while we like to showcase some custom wedding guitar picks that are ordered by our customers. Wedding picks are becoming more and more popular as a wedding item, so we get to see a lot of different types of designs! Custom guitar picks are great as a wedding item because they are small and make the perfect keepsake (especially if you have a lot of musicians at your wedding!) They can represent a couple’s love for music and they can be customized in a variety of ways, including dates, colors, photos, graphics, quotes, etc. The picks shown here were made on our acetal material, with a beautiful flower graphic, and simply the date as a perfect reminder for the guests of the special day spent with the couple. Check out our wedding pick site at http://www.customweddingpicks.com/!

StoneBaby

We just recently endorsed the guitarists in the band StoneBaby! Here is a little bit about the band: With the inception of the band came an almost magical approach to writing and developing original music between the original members whose friendship spanned better than a decade. Scott Philipp, a singer /songwriter immersed in the Philadelphia music scene, was lead to push himself and focus on his powerful vocals. Scott creates tasteful melodies and lyrics over his forever simple, yet developing guitar playing skills. As he introduces ideas he and Tony Schiavo (Drums), always collaborate on the arrangement of the music to create a stylized rhythm that is unique to each song. Until recently, the band had cravings for a guitar player w-Stonebaby-2013--414-Editho would add simple dynamics and depth to the songs. With the revolving guitar position, the band made a commitment to head into the studio and record a three song EP to develop a style that would pinpoint the lead guitar sound that they really needed. Producer Drew Raison of Big Sky Audio, took the reins and seasoned the music to what is now the true sound of StoneBaby. The new recording, which has a commercial rock appeal, is set to capture all age listeners. As the band continues to evolve with new music… and newly added guitar and bass  players, Bobby Leonhardt and Jason Shainline the EP is certain to prove to be a canvas for the band to expand its musical creativity and listening audience.

Tattoo Your Picks

Getting a custom printed design on your guitar picks is just about the same as tattooing them, and this design especially reminded me of an awesome tattoo! The colors are so vibrant, and they are perfect against the background of our white delrin guitar picks. Our white delrin material is a flat, very bright white so it always makes bright colors in designs really stand out! This customer also utilized our full bleed design option so that the art on the picks goes all the way to the very edge, instead of having a border around it. To order your own custom ink “tattoo” picks, visit www.claytoncustom.comScatter today!

Floyd Fabulous

Hey Clayton Fans! Check out these awesome picks!

These really stood out to me because I have, as most people have, seen the Pink Floyd logo many many times, but I have never seen it so amp-ed up! I love how this customer took the classic logo and gave it a really modern detailed look for the cover band logo. The colors are amazing, and this graphic turned out super well on our acetal guitar pick material! So here’s my challenge to all you cover bands out there; take the logo of the band you are covering, and give it the Floyd Factor make-over! To start creating, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

Tobacco Apache – New album!

On July 9th Tobacco Apache will release their new CD on digital and physical copies will be available on July 12th.  The Apache sound is a mix of original old school, tobacco apache_coverA southern, and roots rock, and other genres, blended into one dynamic sound. Sam Fochtman (guitar/vocals), Josh Lynch (bass/vocals), and Chance Taylor (drums) entered the scene as “Sam Fochtman & Tobacco Apache” with their first gig at Mike Aid II in June of 2010. From that point on, the fellas made sure to bring the heat to every show! In March of 2011 the band took to the studio to lay down tracks for their first EP. John Miller at Tone Room Studios was the mastermind behind the project, and he helped to give the band some new musical areas to explore. The self titled “Sam Fochtman & Tobacco Apache” CD was released on May 22, 2011. The next month, Martin’s Bar & Grill in downtown Roanoke, VA, hosted the band’s album release party. The Riverbank Ramblers joined in on the night’s fun and both bands played to a packed house. The boys finished off 2011 on a high note, preparing for more shows and their first full length album, which would be released the following year. That next year started off with a bang, with the band reaching new heights by placing second (of 20 bands) in one of the biggest Battle of the Bands that Roanoke had ever hosted. The boys also shortened the name of the band, to simply “Tobacco Apache” (it’s easier on the tongue!). In May of 2012 the band encountered a devastating tragedy. Lifelong friend, brother, founding member, and drummer; Chance Taylor, was killed in a car accident. The tragedy, which also claimed the life of Chance’s dad Randy, left the community and the music scene in total shock. Sam and Josh decided to play RoosterWalk 4 as a tribute show to Chance. With the help of some great musicians, including Mason Jennelle on drums, the boys performed and brought everything they had to the stage that night. Unsure of the next move following that performance, the band decided that a break was the best thing they could do to honor Chance, as they decided on a path for the future. In June of 2012, all of the bands that Chance had played in decided to hold a memorial/benefit show in honor of their fallen brother. Ryan Greer, The Baker Bros., Drown the Messenger, and The Aurora Observatory joined forces with Tobacco Apache at Martin’s for a night of music, fellowship and celebrating the life of Chance. The show will forever etched in the minds of the audience members as each band played and sang like never before. As time went on and healing took place the band decided to push on, pick up the pieces, and continue playing. They knew that was something that Chance would have wanted them to do. On July 4, 2012 Mason Jennelle (of Electric Chameleon) joined the band as a full-time member. Mason was a natural fit who plays with the same passion and excitement as the rest of the crew. With the drum seat filled and the addition of Paul Tressel on Keys, Tobacco Apache had finally solidified itself as upcoming act to see. Tobacco Apache has shared the stage with The Dirty Guv’nahs, Dangermuffin, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Cabinet, Folk Soul Revival, Mountain Heart, Adam Ezra Group, The Mumbles, Ten Toes Up and many others. The band has a new album entitled “Inside Job,” that is set for release in July of 2013 as well as a bunch of other numerous shows and festivals dates to round out the year.

Rock the Fourth!

Hey Clayton Customers! The team here at Clayton USA wants to wish you a Safe and Rockin’ Fourth of July! We hope you enjoy all the awesome mid-summer concerts and parties that are happening! How perfect that one of our fantastic customers recently created and ordered the picks shown below, which look like they have fireworks on them! I believe it is actually an astrological photo that was used for the design background, but they reminded me enough of fireworks to think of them as Independence Day picks! If this year’s celebrations inspire you to create  some explosive designs for custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com to start making your custom pick art today! Scatter1_

Knock on Wood

Scatter3Check out these awesome faux-wood custom guitar picks! One of our fabulous Clayton customers placed an order for custom picks with a design that had a wood background and the silhouette of a gecko on it. We determined that the design turned out the best when printed on our Eco pick material. The crazy thing is that when they have the wood print on them they actually feel like wooden picks! The consistency of the Eco material is like that of a light wood material. We thought it was so cool that they turned out that way! Also, the overbleed option was used so that you can hardly tell that the pick is white underneath the print. To order your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com. Eco picks are new to our custom pick line; give them a try!

Judd Hoos

Judd Hoos is an American Rock Band based in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It has been almost a year since their single,’Breathe In’ was released and charted number 23 on the iTunes rock charts. The band has spent the past year working hard on their upcoming full length album, ‘Music In The Dark’ and has never been more prepared for success.

Operating as a self contained and constantly touring band, the guys found creative ways to write and record while on the road. Things like recording drums in grain elevators and constructing vocal booths out of hotel room mattresses. The album boasts an acoustic driven Americana Rock sound with an eclectic mix of influences. From Tyler’s gorgeous, rough-hewn vocals, to the intricate guitar work, and the heartfelt songwriting, the album is a representation of where the band has come in its recent years.

The band is preparing for a very busy summer tour across the country to promote their new album,’ Music in the Dark’ including 10 nights at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. You would be hard pressed to find a harder working band that tours as much and works as hard at their craft. Combining their professionalism and experience to put on the best show out there, Judd Hoos is quickly becoming one of the country’s most sought after live acts.

Pink Elephants on Parade

I personally love elephants so I had to show off this cool custom guitar pick design! These picks were made for musical artist Florent Mothe.

Florent’s first album “ROCK IN CHAIR” is currently available on iTunes for download, or to Elephantspurchase as a CD in France.
Official Website is www.florentmothe.com
Official facebook page is : www.facebook.com/florentmotheofficiel
Official Youtube Channel : www.youtube.com/florentmotheofficial
Official Twitter account : @florentmotheoff
We love the whimsical design of the picks. Also, note how the picks look like they are yellow, but they are actually white pearl in base. The “full bleed” print option was utilized, meaning that the yellow background extends all the way to the edge of the pick, making it look like it is actually a yellow pick. This is a great option if you are wanting to print multiple colors, but still have the look of a colored pearl pick, because our true colored pearl material can only support black ink designs.

Ssss Snake Picksssss

Check out these custom picks made for the band Nest of Snakes!

NestThe design is a simple black artwork, and it was made on our yellow delrin pick material. Even thought the colors are basic, we liked the intricacy of the design and how it fits really well into the pick shape…they just look cool!

To design and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

“Nest of Snakes is a trophy case of local talent. It consists of Jason Boten formerly of Superchief, who plays guitar and sings, Larry Enos who also plays with Sons of Walter on bass, Tom Brighton who splits his time with September on guitar and vox, and drummer Derek Deutramont who was formerly with the Albino Spiders.

Their sound is heavy but not all-encompassing. It’s composed of a variety of different influences from all over the rock and roll map. The two tracks I heard brought to mind such classic acts as Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, but I also heard glimpses of early Soundgarden and Motorhead. Despite having a heavy foundation, the music is also rich with melodies, a trait that sometimes gets lost in the Des Moines metal scene.”

Blacklist Union

We loved these custom guitar picks made for the band Blacklist Union. Black and red Blacklistis always a classic design color scheme, and it looks fantastic on our white delrin guitar pick material. Their design has a fair amount of detail on it, but it turned out really clear and easy to see, even on the small guitar picks.

Blacklist Union is a Los Angeles based band touring on their 3rd cd called “until death do us part”.  They have been in the game for 8 years and will be touring most of 2013 in the Midwest and East Coast.  Their singer Tony West sang and toured with LA Guns, which lead him to form his own band when LA Guns decided to take a break.  They play from the heart rock and roll influenced by Mother Love Bone to Guns & Roses!  Their live show is full of energy and they have been receiving rave reviews! Check out www.blacklistunion.com for a full bio and to download music. The custom picks were ordered by bassist Erik Hatchett, and he testifies that he “will only use Clayton picks because their tone and durability surpass the rest!” Thanks Erik!!

Darby O’Guitar Pick

Check out these awesome custom picks made for the band Darby O’Gill and the Little People. The band has been Scatter2performing Traditional Irish, Celtic punk and other various genres in the Las Vegas Pub scene for close to 11 years. Their goal is to make their audience’s drinking experience the best time they can barely remember 🙂 To find out more about them, you can visit their website at www.darbyogillband.com, and they are also on facebook, twitter and myspace.

This pick design first caught my eye because of the name…same as the Disney film from 1959 starring Sean Connery. I think it is a clever name for a band that plays Irish and Celtic punk music! I also really liked the colorful and traditional look of the design itself, which was printed on our acetal material guitar picks.

Guitars Not Guns Music Program

We just wanted to share a little bit about a great organization that we are honored to work with. Guitars Not Guns was founded by Ray and Louis Nelson.  They became foster parents in 1992 and it was through
this experience that Ray decided to provide foster kids with guitars and lessons. He began asking friends and strangers for their used guitars to pass along to foster kids. This act of kindness became his passion and as a result there are classrooms across the USA and in Canada. GNG’s goal is to help stop violence in schools and on the streets by providing a music program for at-risk teens and other deserving children. They want to divert as many children as possible from the self-destructive behaviors of drugs, alcohol and crime connected to gang activity. By providing children and teens with guitars and lessons they hope to engage their creative potential. It’s all about helping underpriveleged kids a
nd teens. GNG is an all-volunteer organization and provides their programs at no cost to students! We recently just made the custom guitar pick shown here for them on our White Delrin picks. Photo by Caren Armstrong.

For a Rainy Day…

Check out these cool picks! We loved the blue Flotsam design that was submitted for custom guitar picks by the band Treading Lemmings. This art was printed on our acetal guitar picks, which work great for graphics that include color backgrounds that cover most of the guitar pick, such as the blue background in this design. We also liked how the fine detail in the creative logo turned out so well, even on small guitar picks!

In March 2013, The Treading Lemmings released “Flotsam”. The EP serves up five delicious new tunes. Much more akin to a fine dining experience than a to trip to the local diner;”Flotsam” provides depth, complexity, sweetness at times, and occasional bitterness for balance. With the typical lyrical finesse of Christopher Quinn, this project was also spiced up by some special guests: Nashville fiddle ace, Kurt Baumer, played on a homage to Keith Moon in “Goodnight Moon,” and inter-continental arrangement help was provided by the Dentists’ (seminal 90s Brit-pop) Bob Collins on “Doing Time On Placid Drive.”

To learn more about The Treading Lemmings, visit the following sites:

Twitter: @treadinglemming

The custom guitar picks were created and ordered by Clayton customer Andy Hunt (aka Ricky), who plays rhythm (Rickenbacker) guitar for The Treading Lemmings. With the release of the new vinyl EP “Flotsam”, he wanted a new promotional pick to toss from stage. He worked with artist Carl Yonder www.carlyonder.com to take his artwork from “Flotsam” and turn it into a guitar pick design using the Clayton custom design tool.

Pick of the Week — Boss Fight

This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Boss Fight.
Boss Fight is a 4-piece (Kevin, Steve, John and Mikee) band from Chicago that plays pop punk.
Boss Fight formed only about 9 months ago, and they played their first show on January 13th of this year (at the Subterranean in Chicago).
According to band member Mikee, the Boss Fight music tastes contrast pretty strongly, so in the end they have an interesting blend of explosive pop punk riffs and more ambient bridge/breakdown segments. Mostly, they say it’s just a blast to play and they hope that the crowds of future shows enjoy listening to it as much as they love to play it.
The pick design is one that Mikee essentially cropped from the event poster for the show. Mikee says that “the artist, the lovely and talented Marina Kozak, did a damn good job on the original. Her portfolio is here: www.marinakozak.carbonmade.com. She’s not actually in the band, but she’s decided to be our artist anyway!”
To learn more about Boss Fight, visit:
Their SoundCloud page: https://soundcloud.com/bossfightchicago
The event page for their last show: http://www.facebook.com/events/431855570201026/
We love the variety of color and graphic appeal of the Boss Fight design that was used for their custom picks. The material chosen for this order was our Clayton white carbonate pick type, which is a glossy finish bright white pick. To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com.

Pick of the Week — SOLARSET

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band SOLARSET.

SOLARSET is an all original quartet driven by mixed influences to make way for a completely new style of “rock”. The band was formed in Watertown, Connecticut, in the fall of 2011 with Alan Johnson on lead guitar, Justin Spry on vocals and rhythm guitar, Dan Krhla on bass, and Jason Hoyt on drums. From their poetic lyrics and melodic tones to their hypnotizing solos and percussive ingenuity, SOLARSET is a juggernaut of creativity and originality with a fresh new sound that is beyond classification. They are currently working on their debut album expected for release in summer of 2013. SOLARSET has live music, photos, and videos posted at www.facebook.com/solarset.

The SOLARSET picks were made using our white acetal guitar pick material, which is semi-transparent and works great with photo designs, such as the the awesome solar eclipse photo shown here. To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com!
