Custom Guitar Picks

Pick Necklaces

Yes, we do make pick necklaces :). We just got finished with a large order for Bach 2 Rock. We’ve been making necklaces for them necklacefor a couple of years now. We can do necklaces for smaller orders, but the best rate is on larger orders of 10,000 or more.  This was done on our black celluloid which is a glossy pick and looks amazing with a white imprint. This material can be ordered in any color for the necklaces, as well as a variety of colors like our Color Delrin.  We do have a 10,000 pick minimum for the black or color celluloid materials. We also can do key chains with the same type of chain in the picture. If are looking just to get holes drilled in your picks we can do this as well, even for orders of 100! You can contact us for a quote on the necklaces, and orders for necklaces need to be placed by phone as this option is not yet in the designer.

Foo Fighters

We just finished up an order for the Foo Fighters this week. We’ve been making picks for the Foo Fighters for several years now. foo_fighterThis time they went with a patriotic color scheme and got red, white and blue logos printed on the Acetal, Rounded Triangle, .63mm for an upcoming performance. They also ordered there usual pick with the blue FF logo on the Acetal, Standard, .5mm. They mostly order this one, and you may have seen it in the samples on our website. They have ordered Black Raven, several of the Delrin, and Acetal in the past. We always have a lot of fun here with their orders since they suprise us often with new artwork and new material choices, we never know what to expect :).

James Otto’s New Picks

We just got finished with an order for James Otto. He went with a completely different design since he has a new single and album coming out. The new design looks great! james_ottoI just went over to his myspace to check out his new single, “Since you brought it up”. Like his other songs this one is great, and the lyrics rock! I especially liked the chorus, it’s pretty catchy. Jame’s personally uses our Acetal, Rounded Triangle, 1mm picks. If you haven’t had a chance to here his new single yet it is definently worth checking out (available on his myspace, linked above)! Also, his myspace has a list of all his upcoming shows if your interested in checking him out live.

A Perfect Pair!

Red and Black always seem to turn out flawless together. redblackThese are some that we just imprinted this week. This combination is one of the most popular color schemes that we imprint. The Cherry and IRAL pick is a good example of what kind of coverage of solid black we can imprint. We often get many orders with a solid black background and just a name or small logo on it. We usually do not accept this for imprinting because it tends to not turn out quite so well and with past orders we had complaints about the outcome. Now we recommend that you do not imprint the pick with more then 50% coverage of a single solid color. The way the IRAL pick uses a large white imprint and some red with the black  we were able to print it flawlessly. The Cherries use a little more black, but as you can see put together it’s not more then 50% coverage so it turned out well too. If you are looking for a black background, we would really suggest getting our Black Raven picks instead. Speaking of black raven we should have included a scan of one with red on it. The red and white really look great on our Black Raven. You can check out examples of this on an older post of mine named Black Raven.

LBT picks!

We just completed a batch of picks for Little Big Town’s Philip and Jimi. lbtJimi uses the orange delrin, and Philip uses the acetal .80mm. The band has a great sound to it! I think I’ve said before that I’m more of a rock person, however, I’m getting more into country. They have really catchy lyrics, and the music makes you want to get up and dance! I am definently adding some of their songs to my ipod now :). They were just recently nominated for 2 CMT awards, (you can vote for them by clicking here). Also, if your lucky enough and in the area you can check them out at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on June 9th.

You can check them out at:

Giving back to our community

We just donated several custom picks to a local business called Dasil, they are a Community Drop-In Center for people with disabilities, dashil the homeless, and those struggling with poverty and is a non-profit organization. They recently approached us for a donation of custom picks to use as their business cards for the Project Homeless Connect 2009 event on June 5th. We agreed to give them several picks, which you can see in the scan. They actually requested that we put our logo on the picks which was kind of them :). The Project will be providing many services such as medical/dental screenings, hygiene products, meals, childcare, vision screening, employment counseling, mental health screening, financial conseling, clothing, domestic violence services, haircuts, sleeping bags/blankets as well as several more. We are proud to have our picks featured in this amazing event in our community and hope it helps people find their way to Dasil or other organizations like it.

Tito and Tarantula

titoI knew when I saw these picks that it was something familar! If you don’t know this band has songs on the soundtracks of Robert Rodriguez‘s films Desperado and From Dusk till Dawn. We just shipped out an order of several picks for them. They ordered Acetal, Rounded Triangle, 1.52mm. These colors turned out just amazing on the Acetal. It is actually very bright and stands out very well. You can check out their music on their official website by clicking here. I just got done checking it out myself…and I have to say that they are really good! I like the sound of the singers voice, it is very unique. The lyrics seem very interesting, may have to look those up :). We use to suggest white delrin for hot pink/magenta but now that we’ve seen this on the acetal it’s a toss up. It turned out just a bright as the white delrin would! These are a new staff favorite, someone even called them cute, haha.

Photographs on Picks

photopicksWe often get asked if we can imprint photographs on picks, and the answer is yes we can! 🙂 Here are some examples of our most recent photo orders. There are two printed on white delrin and two on acetal. Normally we suggest acetal for most photographs as it tends to take all shades very well including the lighter tones. Especially if you have a paler skin tone you might want to go with acetal. All photos we print on our picks will have a glossy finish to them wether you get acetal or white delrin. As you can see in the example the way the photo turns out on the two materials is quite different. If you are getting a black/white photo you should definently go with the acetal, as lighter grey does not turn out well on white delrin. If you are getting a photo with very bright colors in it then either pick will work however due to the bright white surface of delrin it will be brighter on derlin. There also is usually no problem with convering the entire pick with a full bleed of the photo like the group on Acetal. Although sometimes the border does look nice. The last thing we’d like to mention is that unfortuantely not all flesh tones turn out on either pick, some may look somewhat transclucent, if this is the case we will let you know if it will not turn out. We hope that this aids you in any questions you may have had regarding getting photos imprinted on picks. If you still have some questions don’t hestiate to send us an email questions@steveclayton.com

Picks for Intel

intelWe just completed a new order of picks for Intel. We have done picks for them in the past on Acetal, White Delrin and Blue Delrin. This time they chose to go with the White Delrin which complements their blue logo very well! We often make picks for companies, and not just guitarists :). Custom Picks are a great way to promote your business! Instead of handing out the traditional business card, hand out a custom guitar pick instead. It’s very memorable and won’t just get thrown in a walet, trash or forgotten. Also, if your having an event for your company this would be a great hand out instead of pens, pencils or notepads. Yes, the pick is small but believe it or not we can fit a ton of text on these! We can often fit a logo with a phone and email on one side of the pick. If you are hosting a large event and are in need of more then 1,000 picks we can print in much larger quanties up to the 1,000,000’s :). Just call us for a quote, we also can accomadate most in hands dates.

Colored Pearl

coloredpearlLooking for a pick that is a specific color? We can help! We offer Color Pearl in almost every color imaginable. We have a color chart on our designer that allows you to choose from 256 colors. Here are examples of some color pearl we did this week. These picks take 4-6 weeks for production. Because these picks are already so colorful the imprint color is black ink only. It stands out on just about every color. We often get asked if we can do a black pearl pick. We do not have black pearl but we can do a very dark gray. The color pearl picks are made out of the same premium celluloid material as our White Pearl picks. It is available in Standard, and Rounded Triangle shape in 6 gauges. This pick truly is an all around custom pick!

Picks that make you go “aww”

Yes, believe it or not we do get orders for picks that have completely adorable artwork on it. cute_kidsThe scan for this post is of picks that prompted us to make this post. They were printed on Ultem, in the small teardrop shape. Normally we just imprint brown, red and black because they seem to imprint best on the ultem. However, since this was a thinner gauge we were able to get the yellow, orange, pink and blue to turn out quite well. We really suggest the black, brown and red because we are certain these colors always turn out well. However, we are not opposed to trying new colors so feel free to submit an order with different colors if you like. We will always send a message if we feel that it will not turn out before sending it on to production, or if it didn’t after production. These picks really are adorable, there’s just no other way to put it! Everyone here who was shown them gave the same response “Aww!” even if they wouldn’t admit it :).

Clayton’s Super Fast 48 hour Turn-around

pickgroupingYou may have noticed we ship out our custom guitar picks really, really quick. We are the fastest by far in the business. Most of our competition takes anywhere from 2-8 weeks to ship a custom order out. So, why are we able to print our picks so fast? Well, we have been doing this for 30 years, and have managed to streamline everything down to a quick and efficient process. Also this is our full time job and we have lots of dedicated professionals working at it.! A lot of our competitor websites are individuals working out of their home/ garage, and most of them have a different full time job. So, since they have so much other stuff going on, they tend to have long lead times. So when you are looking for a place to buy your picks from, taking a look at their lead time will let you know how devoted to their company they are.

A lot of our competitors also have a long turn-around time so that they can charge your card and hold onto the funds for that whole time… which is less than ideal. So basically if they take 4 weeks to ship your picks, that is 4 weeks that you have paid for those picks. At Clayton, Inc. even though we don’t take long to ship most orders, we don’t even charge your card until the picks have shipped. So you never have to worry about that!

There are some exceptions to our 48 hour shipping window though. It does not include weekends or holiday. Also, if we have to contact you regarding your artwork, then the 48 hour window starts over again once we are able to place your order into production. We will not rush your order through to make the time window if it means hurting the quality of the final product.

Here are the most common problems that can slow your order down:

#1: Too small of text – This by far is #1! When you are designing your pick in our designer, there is a small replica of your design in actual size in the lower left area of the window. If you can’t read it there, then you don’t want to submit the artwork, because you won’t be able to read it on the pick. If we think your text or graphic is too small, we will contact you and put your order on hold status because we want to make sure your text or images are clear and visible on the pick.

#2: Wrong selection of pricing – If you accidentally upload a full color graphic, but select single color pricing and submit the artwork as single color, your order will often get placed on hold so that we can verify with you if you want a graphic artist to turn the image all to one color, or if you want to upgrade your pricing.

#3. Complex artwork – If you haven’t already noticed we deal with a lot of complex artwork. It takes work to make it look good. We may do a run of your picks and decide they don’t quite look right, so the graphic artists will revisit the image, and order a re-print of the job until it looks good. Artwork like this may take up to a week to ship out. Also some-times artwork that contain over-bleeds can take a little longer as well.

#4. Out of stock material- This is really rare, but on occasion, we will be out of stock on a certain gauge of material, which can cause a delay. We notify our customers of this delay and always offer that they can switch to a different gauge or material if they are in a rush.

#5. Specialty Picks – We have a few specialty picks that don’t fit in the 48 hour time frame. These include Black Raven (4-6 weeks), Just Text (10 working days) and Colored Pearl (3 weeks). So if you are in a rush, we don’t recommend ordering these materials.

Hope that helps educate you on how we are able to ship fast, and how you can help ensure your order ships out fast. If you want to read more reasons on why you should choose Clayton Custom as your company of choice, please visit Why Choose Clayton.

A Pick from our Archives – Johnny Cash

johnny_cash1Every once in awhile when I am looking for something in my office I come across a custom pick we did from a long time ago. Just today I happened upon this Johnny Cash pick that we made. This exact pick is probably about 18 years old! Yes, very old. It is our Rounded Triangle Acetal (in Black) Johnny’s signature color, with his signature on it in white, gauge .50mm. Johnny loved our Acetal so much, but didn’t want it in white, so we had our Acetal material made in black just special for him. This pick is pretty hard to come by now a days because Johnny didn’t use them as his toss out picks. They are the true picks he played with and loved. I have often seen this pick go for over $100 on ebay. So if you ever come across this pick or already have it in your collection, It was made by Clayton! johnnycashFrom what I know most other Johnny Cash picks are either newly made fakes, or were his toss out picks. Johnny ordered 1,000’s of picks from us until his passing in 2003. He actually ordered so often from us that we would pre-make the picks a head of time. So when Johnny passed we were left with about 2,000 of his printed picks that were made in advance. People who knew we made the pick have called and begged for at least one of them, but sorry we will not give or sell the picks. They were only meant for Johnny.

Black Raven

black_ravenThe Black Raven custom picks have become so popular! Here is a few that we ran this week and wanted to share with you. We can imprint white and full color imprints on the Black Raven. Of course white imprints the best on black, however, don’t hesistate to try other colors! Red and White really stand out on the Black Raven because they are brighter colors and look great together. We don’t really suggest designs with very fine detailing however you can always ask if you are unsure if it would turn out or not. Colors like purple, red, bright green, and dark orange or yellow really look best on this pick. It’s usually best to use a design that has solid colors in it rather than a gradient or excessive shading in it.  We have it available in the traditional sizes of thin, medium and heavy.

Rockin’ Wedding Pick!

This wedding pick is by far a staff favorite! michelleWe really liked how it is kind of like a comic type drawing. These colors turned out great on the white delrin because the bright white background allowed the colors to really pop. It was originally tested on Acetal which gave it a softer look, however, with these colors and the sharp detail in the lines it was better suited to white delrin. If we haven’t mentioned it before Delrin is great for fine lines, and intriciate detailing. The soft, smooth surface allows for sharp imprinting, as you can see in the text on the backside.

Skulls!

I don’t know what’s going on this week, but we’ve had an unusal amount of orders for skulls this past week. Here are a few that are my favorite. I really like the Otis pick, the skull rocks that hat! skullI also really like the overbleed skull on the Acetal Rounded Triangle. As you can see it has a two sided imprint on it. The thinner the Acetal is the more transparent it becomes so if you are going to have it imprinted with two sides we would suggest atleast getting .63mm or thicker. The rest were printed on the Delrin material. We have stock picks available that feature different skull designs. These are the Demonic Skulls of course, they come with 6 different designs. They are printed on Delrin, and available in thin, medium and heavy. You can now order them direct for our website by clicking here.

Chick Picks!

chickpicks

We’ve been making picks for the company Chick Picks for a couple of years now. They sell guitar pick earrings. They have some very intricite designs, and even add accents to the guitar picks that completely look like the picks were made for earrings. You can check out their website by clicking here. These are a couple of picks we did for them this week that we wanted to share. They always order White Delrin because it works very well with the intricate overbleeds they usually use. The snakeskin turned outpicks1 gorgeous on the delrin with the mixutre of bright and dark, it looks as if the pick is textured however it is smooth to the touch. They also went with a simpler flower design that looks very sharp!

Overbleeds on Pearl

diego Here is a really neat pick that I thought we could share today.  We don’t often print overbleeds on Pearl, but this one really came out looking stunning. On our Pearl material we use transparent inks with the exception of black, so that the pearl can show through to the image. At first we weren’t to sure about this one due to the intense colors, however, it turned out better then any of our expecations! It has a really cool water effect to it. This is a good example of an overbleed that suites the pearl material well. If you are looking to do an overbleed on pearl you should think of using lighter colors rather then dark otherwise the pearl won’t show through quite as well and may clash too much. If you are interested in getting an overbleed like this on pearl and are unsure about whether or not it would work please feel free to email us at questions@steveclayton.com and we can help you decide!

Sweetheart Picks

So through the years I’ve seen quite a few picks made that I label “sweetheart” picks. These picks have speical sayings for a loved one on them. red_picksWell, my boyfriend is being deployed to Iraq for a year (he is in the National Guard) so I thought I would make him some picks with 100 different love notes and inspirational sayings on them for when he is missing home. Even though they were ooey gooey he really appreciated them! If you are interested in creating custom guitar picks for someone who is deployed we can ship direct to any country, and can ship to APO addresses as well. The cost of shipping is only $14! I made his on Colored Pearl and the Rounded Triangle shape so that more text could fit on it. They made from our Colored Pearl picks in a color that he selected from our online color chart, and I think it couldn’t look more gorgeous with the pearl affect. The photo to the right is a scan of some of his favorite ones.

Custom Picks – Nikon Live

nikon1Today we finished a HUGE order for Nikon Live. This is the 2nd year we have made picks for their Nikon Live events. Each year we have done a custom blend of pick color that matches the Nikon logo. For very large orders we are able to provide custom blends of color with any of our materials, and we can have them made into any gauge. Nikon live features all kinds of really talented bands, if you have a chance to go to one of the concerts you will not regret going. You can check out the Nikon Live website for information on locations and times of their music events. Their website is very nice, and of course has some excellent photography on it! We hope to make more picks for this wonderful organization again in the future.

10% off Through April 30th

In case you missed out on our newsletter, we are currently offering a 10% discount custom orders placed through April 30th.blog1 Just use the promotional code APRL09 to get 10% when checking out. This week we’ve had quite a variety of different custom picks. Here are few we did this week. We’ve been making the Helmet guitar picks for guitarist Page Hamilton for years now on our Acetal Rounded Triangle 1.52 and he just recently ordered more. The brighter colors that were printed on the pearl really look amazing and stand on out well even though the pick itself is so colorful. If you are looking to have a bright color printed we would suggest getting the pearl as the colors almost always turn out looking amazing on this pick. It really shows that black isn’t the only color that looks good on the pearl :). I actually spoke to the customer who ordered the pirate pick and we had a hard time choosing between Acetal or White Delrin. After discussing the differences between the two he chose White Delrin, and I couldn’t agree more with his decision. It turned out stunning! The sketch of the couple is also imprinted on White Delrin.

Custom Picks – Green

Hmm wasn’t St. Pattys day last month? Well it must be spring fever then because we’ve had several Green orders this month!green_pick1 Most of the picks featured are on Green Delrin which is made out of a very durable material and is one of the most popular and widely used materials available. We offer Delrin is 5 other colors such as red, orange, yellow, blue, and purple. They are colored according to gauge. The Green Delrin is made on the .88mm gauge which is a slighly heavier medium gauge. The one in the middle is on our Color Pearl which is made out of celluloid. This one was for a wedding, and was colored to match the wedding colors. The really exciting feature about the Color Pearl is that we can color it to match just about any color you choose! And you can choose the gauge as well, so basically it is compeletely customized to suite your needs. Also, believe it or not our White Delrin is in that circle featuring a full green over bleed. If you can’t pick them out it is the Joe Bachman Crew pick and the one with faint white lines next to the Colfax pick. It’s a good example of what we use the “full bleed” feature for. We normally don’t suggest covering the whole pick with a solid background, however, these 2 are great examples of what can be done. A background that has other colors in it with a logo usually turns out great with a full bleed. We would suggest using either the Acetal Polymer or White Delrin picks for full bleeds.

Custom Picks – White Delrin

So I decided to pull out my favorite White Delrin picks for the month…and I came up with quite a few. White Delrin is probably my

Custom Guitar Picks

Custom Guitar Picks

favorite material that we have just because of how well every logo seems to turn out on it. It is a solid bright white guitar pick, so everything really pops on it. As you can see in the White Rose pick, and the VC pick the brighter colors look very nice and pop out on it. I also thought that the B&P photo turned out gorgeous on this material. All the details of the photo came out very crisp and clear. There’s also a wedding pick in the pile somewhere :), in the spring/summer months we do several orders for weddings. The most popular saying is something like Stephanie Picked John, or John Picked Stephanie with the date. But I’ve been seeing a lot of unique ones lately with designs surrounding their intials. Congrats to all the newly weds! If your looking for a high quality pick but are also interested in your image really standing out I would suggest getting the white delrin. It will definitely suite these needs.

Custom Pick – Vault Energy Drink

vault1“For guy’s who get it done. And then some.” – The first catchy phrase off their website and commercials. I’m sure you’ve all seenvault_drink2 the hilarious wakeboard challenge but if you haven’t check it out at their website below! We just recently made picks for them on our Promotional Material. This material is perfect for full color imprints with an overbleed such as theirs. Personally, I prefer the more girly flavor of Red Blitz, but their citrus flavor seems to be the most popular.

Vault Wesbite w/ Wakeboard Challenge

Custom Pick – Capitol Federal

This was a really fun order of picks that we are shipping out today to Capitol Federal for several music promotions they are hosting. They are all printed on our white Promo

pickfair2

Material, standard shape, 1.00mm. They each have a very fun modern design in different shades of blue. They are currently running a really neat contest called the “True Blue Luxury Giveaway”. They are giving away tons of

high-end prizes all year long. Next time you are in one of their branches, find an entry box and enter. Good Luck!

Custom Pick – Cricket

cricket1

We have been making guitar picks for the company Cricket for several years now. Cricket provides wireless services to about 4 million customers in the United States. They are best knows for their flat rate billing methods for cellular phone use. We just got done with a project with them, so we wanted to show you the beautiful results. This year they went with new artwork, and it really is stunning. This pick is printed on our white promotional material, with jet black ink going all the way to the edge of the pick. Colorful dots form around their signature “K” logo. It was great to work with them again, and we look forward to working with them in the future!

James Otto

james1We’d like to welcome James Otto as our new featured artist! James cannot be really categorized with a single word. His music has a mix of country and rock and roll that almost anyone can appreciate. Upon reviewing his press kit I took an immediate liking to all of his music, though his song, “Just Got Started Lovin’ You” was already one of my favorite songs. James uses our Acetal Polymer material in the rounded triangle shape.

Custom Pick – iStockphoto

We were so happy to see that iStockphoto placed an order with us this week. This is a truly amazing company that we ourselves often use for our own stock imagistockphotoery needs. They have some of the best photography and best prices on the web. Plus their website is very user friendly. If you ever need graphics to design band logos and posters, they are a great place to look. Below are the picks they ordered from us for an event they are doing. This two sided design was put on our White Delrin pick .80mm. You can visit them at istockphoto.com
