I personally love elephants so I had to show off this cool custom guitar pick design! These picks were made for musical artist Florent Mothe.
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Standby Anchors.
The members of Standby Anchors are old enough to know better, but young enough to not care. The band offers amped-up power-pop with a dark side for those about to rock. The current line up of the band is: Mike Devine (lead vocals, guitar), Brent Anderson (drums), Bryan Scrivener (bass), and Phil Anderson (lead guitar, vocals). Standby Anchors is based in Kansas City and plays original songs that are best characterized as modern alternative/indie rock with a definite appreciation for alt rock sounds of the 80s and 90s through the present day. Members of the band have appeared in earlier projects that have toured across the United States and that have released records on indie labels.

As many of you know, custom picks are not made solely for musicians. They are often used for advertising, weddings, and even as clasp-openers for jewelry. What we really love is when our customers can combine their love of music with other passions, and this is one of the most interesting combinations that we have heard of so far!
This week’s Pick of the Week is for artist Lisa Matassa. Operatically trained as a child, and with a resonantly powerful pop voice, Lisa recorded two top-10 dance singles before she was 20. The songs were huge hits in the U.S. and abroad, earning her performing slots in concerts with such acts as Taylor Dayne, Brenda K. Starr and TKA. Born on Long Island, but raised in south Florida, Lisa had always loved singing along to records by Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash, and she realized more and more that country music was where her heart was. Capitalizing on country’s contemporary rock-tinged arrangements, Lisa found she could blend the natural heartfelt soul of country with her own stylized brand of New York edginess. She is now considered Long Island’s first bona fide country artist and has opened shows for Dierks Bentley, Leann Rimes, Thompson Square, Eric Church and, most recently, Ronnie Dunn at a “Vets Rock” concert at Brookhaven Amphitheatre in Farmingville, NY. Recently, Lisa was asked to sing the U.S. and Canadian anthems during the Delaware Ohio County Fair as part of the event’s prestigious Little Brown Jug harness racing event, which draws thousands of fans annually. As Lisa’s career gains momentum, and her new-release album Somebody’s Baby continues gathering national attention through digital downloads, streaming and radio programming, it’s a sure bet Long Island won’t be the only place where the name Lisa Matassa generates real excitement in country music.

Our colored pearl picks are the same celluloid material as the white pearl picks, but they can be custom color matched in addition to having a custom design printed on them. This week’s Pick of the Week was created by Christian Vasquez of Off The Turnpike.
“Since 2011, Off The Turnpike has made it their mission to wake up New York’s long dormant rock scene with a powerful and diverse sound all their own. The band’s hard rock roots are tempered with an emphasis on melody, grooves and the unexpected. From Andy Sexton’s soulful and commanding vocals, to Christian Vasquez’s driving guitars and the beastly rhythm section of bassist Shawn Abraham and drummer Steve Kurlat, Off The Turnpike is here to confound expectations and electrify fans of raw, honest, and uncompromising music. Drawing inspiration from music of all genres and fusing it into a cohesive and powerful mix, Off The Turnpike is blazing forward in surprising new directions. With the release of their self produced self-titled debut album, the band is pushing their music beyond New York and bring the news of rock’s revival to the hungry masses. You’re not ready. But they are.”
Off The Turnpike has been together for little over two years; Christian started the band with Shawn Abraham (bass). On August 25th they will be celebrating their one year anniversary of playing live shows with a live show at Fontana’s NYC. Their most recent achievement was the release of their debut album on June 19 of this year.
The Off The Turnpike picks were made on our white pearl material guitar picks, which have a marbleized quality and glossy finish that looks classy with the deep red logo of the band. To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the Zero Recall band. “The band is relatively new, and is an all out, fun time cover band from New York City. The members of the band are mostly financial services people during the day and closeted, wannabe rock and roll stars at night. The goal every time they play is to make awesome music and to make the crowd dance and sing along. They all come from different backgrounds and draw from many musical genres for their performances. They’re doing classic rock hits 70’s- 2k’s and they are starting to get a decent following. NY city bar based rock and roll is what they are delivering, and a good time is pretty much a guarantee!” To find out more about Zero Recall, visit their site at http://www.zerorecallband.com/ or check them out on Facebook! The Zero Recall band picks were made on our white pearl material, which gives the awesome flames in their design a nice 3D quality. To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Up a Creek. “Up a Creek is a Bellevue based shed bred group of fellas playing Southern Idaho Folk ‘n Roll. Featuring original song writing, the band can best describe their music as a mix of folk and rock…Acoustic guitars. Electric guitars. Whats the difference? Its all in the story. These boys tell a lot of stories. Stories about lovers and losers, sinners and fools. Sifting through the pieces. Redemption always seeming to be just a bit out of reach. So come on out and join their friends and families for some drinkin and strummin small town honky tonkin! Just a few black eyes and angry wives!” Find out more about Up a Creek at http://upacreekmusic.com. The Up a Creek picks were made on our colored pearl guitar pick material. These picks can be custom color matched as well as having a custom design print. Up a Creek chose a rustic brown/red color that suites their style, and they feature their simple and clean black logo for a really professional look. This week’s Pick of the Week was made for musician James Cademan. “James Cademan is no stranger on the local scene of Sarasota, Florida where he
currently writes, performs, records, and mixes his original music. Cademan’s
music style denotes a contemporary folk sound as it has an easy listening,
melancholy driven pulse. The lyrics are pondering, evocative and full of life
experiences, reflective of styles from bands such as 3 Doors Down and Creed.
In 2009, Cademan left a position as VP of a nationally known Food Service
Consulting firm to pursue writing and performing music full time. Since then
he has released his debut album entitled “Unplugged and Away”, an EP
containing five acoustic versions of his most popular songs. The album is
available on iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Emusic and many more online outlets.
Best Buy Music has also released the album in stores in September 2011. To
listen and purchase autographed CD’s visit www.jamescademan.com/store.cfm
Cademan plays as a solo act and in live performances. He plays Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar and/or Keyboards. He has chosen both the black celluloid picks and the .05mm red colored delrin (shown at right) picks with the iconic Cademan Wings logo on it. The black celluloid picks are offered as give aways at shows and also have been turned into jewelry and accessories which can be purchased at shows and at the online store (www.jamescademan.com/store.
Cademan designed the iconic Cademan Wings logo to symbolize an experience he had years ago as a teen. One night he was awakened with the distinct and uneasy feeling that someone was watching him. There standing next to his bed was a dark shadow-like figure wearing a wide brimmed “gaucho” style hat and along black cape. Although the room was pitch black, the outline of the figure was blacker than the dark. Feeling that the shadow figure’s intentions were evil he found the courage to jump out of bed and run out of the room. Returning to the room a while later, the figure was gone. On the next night Cademan was once again awakened by a visitor. Only this time there was no dark entity. Instead, there was a giant man with short blonde hair wearing a white toga and crimson sash standing at the foot of his bed. He was at least seven feet tall. Interestingly though he did not have wings as you might think an angel would. The angel never moved his mouth but James distinctly heard him say “I am Cademan. I’ve been sent to protect you”. After these experiences, Cademan (aka, Jim Richards), believed someone was watching over him and since then the name “Cademan” took on the meaning of “Protection, Guidence and Success”. In 2008, James assumed the name “Cademan” as his stage name….because, to him, the name is associated with success. Thus, the iconic sweeping angel wing design and “Cademan” emboldened in the logo design was created to represent strength and success. (Listen to the entire story of Cademan’s angel experience by visiting the February 2, 2012 blog entry at www.jamescademan.com/blog.cfm). Cademan is currently recording his sophomore album entitled “Next Life Now”, set for release in Winter 2012/Spring 2013. He is also preparing to tour the Summer of 2012 with The Extreme Tour. Visit www.jamescademan.com for tour dates and cities.”

LOVER UNDER COVER !!! The first embryo of LUC goes back in time as far as 1982 when Mr E and Mr C were members in the southern rock act “Rain” together with one of Sweden’s most famous ZZ-Top lookalikes, Bengt Lundh. Setteled in the beautiful arcipelago outside Kungsbacka in the west of Sweden we all remember those crazy nights with Rock n roll ( and a couple of beers ) during endless Swedish summer nights. After that Mr E and Mr C were separated for a couple of years. Mr E working with his amazing and successful solo career and Mr C turned out to be semi professional musician and doing a lots of cover gigs at the pubs in the west of Sweden.
They bumped into each other a couple of times during the years and allways said that “we should realy do something togeather” Mr E started up Last Autumns Dream wich not need any further presentation i guess, and Mr C started up the first version of Lover Under Cover around 1992 with Daniel Boscovic as a lead singer.
Mr C and Mr B recorded about 30 songs during 4-5 years before they decided to go separate ways, and now…. 15 years later then finally Mr C and Mr E got the time and opportunity to take of in the project they always wanted to do. A new colorful, harder than ever version of LUC. And the Saga continues……..’); The LUC picks were created on our black celluloid guitar pick material, which was perfect for their logo which has a black background. This week’s Pick of the Week was created for a unique band known as the Warrior Spirit Band. “They are the first all wounded warrior band in the US. Their mission is to bring awareness to various disabilities our veterans and soldiers face once they come home after war. They use music as a healing tool and a way to tell their stories of the experiences they had during combat and the struggles they have faced since coming home. Their goal is to make sure that every veteran that has a disability knows that there is help….and giving up is never an option! The Warrior Spirit band has the potential to do so much for our men and women of the armed forces that have sacrificed their ability to lead a normal life after being wounded or disabled in a combat zone. Warrior Spirit will help bring selected veterans outreach programs into the spotlight and will raise awareness of the struggles that our service men and women go through upon returning home and re-acclimating to a normal life.” Find out more about this amazing group at http://www.warriorspiritband.com/ Warrior Spirit Band’s picks were made on our white pearl material, which gives their logo an awesome 3-D effect and makes the gradient in the text really pop. This week’s Pick of the Week was created for the performer/songwriter/producer/musician; Eli. In an excepert from his website bio, we discovered that Eli “possesses the mettle of a rocker. He oozes charisma. Drawing on his Tennessee roots, Eli traded break beats for rock riffs and left behind his urban moniker, Smoov-E. Eli is a self-taught musician, fueled by his desire to create different sound scapes with live instruments. His innate ability to draw people in is evident in his popularity on social media websites. Eli’s YouTube videos have garnered 30,000 to over 100,000 views each, he has over 3,000,000 total plays on Myspace and is searched for over 60,000 times a month on Google–impressive for an indie artist. For the past two years, Eli has performed before sold out shows rocking for crowds numbering in the thousands while touring with San Francisco legend Andre Nickatina. Eli will change the way Rock-N-Roll is listened to by bringing back that good old feeling and nostalgia, with a twist all his own.” Check out the full bio at www.onepopularguy.com/mediapage. His guitar picks were made on our red colored pearl material, using a simple yet eye-catching design. You can see another image of the picks on his home page at www.onepopularguy.com! Well, Valentine’s day has come and gone, but we wanted you to see some of the cute designs that we got from our customers! Custom picks with photos on them can make wonderful gifts. All of the picks shown in the image below were created on our white pearl material, which is often the best for photo designs. White pearl picks have a marbleized quality to them, which gives a classy look and also makes the images on them have a 3-D quality. These types of designs have been very popular lately, both for Valentines day and for wedding guitar picks. Try out your own design at www.claytoncustom.com today!
We wanted to draw some attention to these very nice, classy-looking pick designs that we have received recently. The pick on the right is one of our white pearl picks, which is a marbleized, glossy finish pick. The design is very elegant, and was created for a wedding, so our pearl material was a perfect choice. The pick on the left is a colored pearl pick, created for a jewelry store. They were looking for a gold color pick, and we were able to custom match the color according to their specifications, and we thought that they came out very nicely. Seeing these two pick designs together, and how the colors of the picks and the designs compliment each other gave us a good idea to share with you. If you are celebrating a wedding or other formal event that you are planning to use custom picks for, choosing both our white pearl picks and our colored pearl picks is a great way to go. Both picks have the beautiful marble quality, and the design for the white pearl picks can be matched with the color of the other picks, just like the two picks shown in the image. If you would like to try out this idea, you can place multiple orders at www.claytoncustom.com. Start designing today!
Today we wanted to show off a couple designs that were recently created and made on our black celluloid picks. Black celluloid is a somewhat new material for Clayton…it was added for custom design last year because we discovered that these picks can support some really nice designs, including ones with varying colors and sometimes intricate detail. Black celluloids are a glossy finish pick, and we have them available in three gauges; thin, (about .50mm) medium (about .80mm) and heavy (about 1.0mm). They can support single color white designs, or full color designs such as the ones shown below. We wanted to draw attention to these specific designs, because the customers who created them used a “glow” effect that makes the text look like neon lights, which happens to show up really nicely against the black background of the picks. So, if you like the look of these examples, check out our custom guitar pick design site and play around with your own black celluloid design today!

This week we are featuring a guitar pick that is from one of our endorsed bands, The Fabulous Po’ Boys! They are a bluesy/rootsy/pop rock blend of music from artist like The Beatles, The Byrds, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffett and more. Their band consists of members Warren Payne and Ed Johnson. They have been together since 1991 and have played all around the country. I grabbed the really funny story about how their band was formed from their website: “The band essentially started out as a dare. While chewing a rubber chicken dinner at a regional advertising convention in Denver, Warren and Ed were just two more ad execs in the room suffering through, what can only be described as, mannequins pretending to be a band. Bad songs, bad hair, bad clothes, no life and an empty dance floor. While having really only shared a few beers by a pool deck at another ad conference in Nashville just six months before, Warren and Ed at least knew one another were from Seattle and had spent some time earning their lunch money in front of a microphone with a guitar. Warren approached Ed (who was on his third beer, ignoring the show and wondering what the hell Turkey Chop was) and had the following proposition; “Janet (conference organizer and dear friend of the Po’ Boys) says if we want, we can take over for the band when they go on a break. They said it’s okay, and Steve (a media lawyer from Minneapolis) is up for playing drums.”
Ed replied, “Dude, we’re not even a band.”
“Do you know Louie, Louie?” asked Warren.
“Yeah,” said Ed skeptically.
“Twist and Shout?”
“Johnny B. Goode?”
“There you go. Three songs right there. We’ll get up, play, have some laughs and we’re done.”
Of course, they played for an hour.
The dance floor was packed; the crowd kept yelling out numbers that the intrepid trio happened to know and with everyone properly lubed, the band played on. The band that had been usurped didn’t seem to mind…they were getting paid anyway. Those guys had no soul at all. What kind of musician gives up his stage?
After the “gig” another conference organizer looking to set up entertainment at a national conference scheduled for Portland, Oregon the following spring asked if the boys were available to play the big after-party.
Again, replied Ed, “We’re not even a band.” (Did that stop us before?)”
Their pick is printed on our pearl celluloid. We love how the little palm tree looks on the pearl picks! Please make sure to visit their website at: http://www.fabulouspoboys.com/
This week we selected a Pearl pick on our Rounded Triangle material, by the band Lethal Saint. The band plays what they often refer to as Old School Heavy Metal. They formed in 2006 on the island of Cyprus (off the coast of Greece) by the two guitarists (Andreas Kasapis and Christos Papadopoulos) and the drummer (Christi Isseyegh) and after trying out a few singers they finally found exactly the voice they were looking for to represent the band: Andreas Pouyioukas. The most recent addition to the band is Mike Papapavlou, the bassist. A demo was released after the formation of the band in 2006 and was sold out, there was also a series of limited promo copies for the cd in December 2009 which were all sold out by the following concert. The original release of their self – titled album “LethalSaint” came out in March 2010 and ever since they have been answering interviews for metal magazines online, radio shows and so on. The cd is available at www.pitchblackrecords.com . Lethal Saint is looking forward to touring the island and hosting a number of concerts with other Cypriot bands for Summer 2010!
During the past month, we have noticed that several designs have been submitted for printing on our black celluloid picks that are in yellow. The most common imprint color for our black picks is white, and red is fairly common as well. After seeing these yellow designs though, we have realized that the yellow on black makes for a great color combo that is sure to stand out! Our black celluloids are a specialty material that we provide as an option for custom imprinting. They are available in standard shape, and three different gauges; thin medium, and heavy. They can have printing on one or both sides of the pick. Black celluloids work the best with large text, and clear, distinct graphics. We have chosen to display the picks to the right as examples of designs that have the right qualities to really come out well. If you like the black and yellow color duo, try out your own design on our custom site: Clayton Custom Design Site!
Take a look at these pretty Hot Stamp Foil Guitar Picks. One of my favorites as they are always a surprise to see the color come out, almost silky looking with a beautiful bright shine. If you play the electric guitar, you’ll want these picks on stage as they look pretty hot with their bright silver and gold foil. We have other foil colors you can choose from like purple or red. The wolf in the design here is a great example of what you can do for a hot stamp foil custom pick. These picks can take about 4-6 weeks to produce, but they are definitely worth the wait. The classic’s restaurant & lounge really hits the mark for finding the right pick style with their brand. We want to see your creativity on the hot stamp foil picks! This week we are featuing an amazing pick done on our white pearl celluloid picks. This is a multi-color imprint with an overbleed print. It is hard to see in the picture, but we use transparent colors on our pearl picks, so you can still see the pearl pattern behind the ink. It makes the image look almost like stained glass. This pick is for one of our newly endorsed bands, Bon Journey. Bon Journey is a Bon Jovi, and Journey Tribute band. They are awesome. They even won best of Pittsburgh! To find out more information about Bon Journey visit their website at: http://www.thebonjourneyshow.com Don’t forget to check out a video of them below:
Black celluloid picks are one of the newer materials that Steve Clayton, Inc. has provided for custom guitar picks. Black celluloids are a smooth material, with a slightly glossy finish. They are available in three gauges; thin (.5), medium (.8), and heavy (1mm). Most designs created for black celluloid picks are white only, so we decided to draw attention to some of the full color designs that have been created recently. We find that red is another popular choice for designs on black celluloid picks, and bright red stands out really well against the black background. Anything bold and bright will look fantastic on the black picks, such as the Simon Sez picks shown in the image here. Hot pink can also look great to add some flare to a design. Visit www.claytoncustom.com to play around with some bright color designs on our black celluloid picks!
Here at Steve Clayton, Inc., one of the pick materials that we offer for custom pick design is white pearl. White pearl is a white pick that has a marbleized quality to it, with a shiny/glossy finish instead of being a flat color. Our custom white pearls are available in six different gauges and in both standard and rounded triangle shapes. We have noticed that designs with a lot of color tend to look especially eye-catching on our white pearl picks. Some examples are shown in the photo below. Some customers choose to have white pearl designs that are overbleed, meaning that there is not a border around the edge of the design. We have also noticed that designs with a gradient, or fadeout of color, look very appealing on the white pearl picks because the fadeout blends so well into the background of the pick. So, if you are planning a pick design that has a lot of bright color or shading in it, take a look at these picks and maybe you will decide that white pearl is the best choice for your design too!
Easter is just around the corner, and we would like to draw attention to our colored pearl picks for the occasion! Aside from the colored delrins, the colored pearl picks are the only custom picks available in a wide variety of colors. Shown here are a few examples of what custom pick designers have created in the past. While we can only use black designs on the colored pearls, the options for the pick colors provide endless possibilities. Also, the colored pearls are available in six different gauges and can be created on both standard and rounded triangle shape. To view all the colors that are available for colored pearl picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com. Jazz up your Easter holiday with colored pearl custom picks from Clayton!
