During the past month, we have noticed that several designs have been submitted for printing on our black celluloid picks that are in yellow. The most common imprint color for our black picks is white, and red is fairly common as well. After seeing these yellow designs though, we have realized that the yellow on black makes for a great color combo that is sure to stand out! Our black celluloids are a specialty material that we provide as an option for custom imprinting. They are available in standard shape, and three different gauges; thin medium, and heavy. They can have printing on one or both sides of the pick.
Black celluloids work the best with large text, and clear, distinct graphics. We have chosen to display the picks to the right as examples of designs that have the right qualities to really come out well. If you like the black and yellow color duo, try out your own design on our custom site: Clayton Custom Design Site!

At Steve Clayton, we offer a variety of picks for custom design. One of the materials that can be used for custom creations is called ultem. Ultem picks are a favorite of our customers because of the high tone quality that they provide, and the grainy non-slip feel of the material itself. Ultem picks are available in three different shapes; standard, rounded triangle, and teardrop. You may also choose from 8 different gauges, ranging from a very flexible .38mm to an extra-heavy 1.2mm. Ultem picks can work with designs of single or multiple colors. However, when you design your custom ultem pick on our design site, keep in mind that black, brown, and red are the print color options available. Don’t be shy to use all three colors in your design, because, as you can see by the image shown here, they all look great against the tan background of the pick. So, if you are looking for a classic look for your personal picks, give ultem a try!

Black celluloid picks are one of the newer materials that Steve Clayton, Inc. has provided for custom guitar picks. Black celluloids are a smooth material, with a slightly glossy finish. They are available in three gauges; thin (.5), medium (.8), and heavy (1mm). Most designs created for black celluloid picks are white only, so we decided to draw attention to some of the full color designs that have been created recently. We find that red is another popular choice for designs on black celluloid picks, and bright red stands out really well against the black background. Anything bold and bright will look fantastic on the black picks, such as the Simon Sez picks shown in the image here. Hot pink can also look great to add some flare to a design. Visit www.claytoncustom.com to play around with some bright color designs on our black celluloid picks!

We wanted to show off some of the recent glow-in-the-dark pick designs that customers have ordered. Glow-in-the-dark picks are still a fairly new item that Steve Clayton, Inc. has provided for custom design, but they are definitely a hit! Glow picks don’t look that much different from other picks at first sight, but all you have to do is put them under a bright light for a couple minutes, and they are sure to stand out at a dark rock concert! Simple designs with thick, bold lines come out best on the glow picks, which is why we chose these three designs as great examples. Each design has a name and an image to give them the personal touch, but they are not overcrowded with detail. So, if you are thinking about designing some custom glow picks, have a look at the picks shown here to get some ideas! To design custom glow picks: Clayton Custom

This week we selected a pick from the band
Forgetful Jones . They are a really cool band from Boston that plays a eclectic style of Hard Rock, Funk, Reggae, and Blues. They are quoted as their music being a “reflection of their individual and collective struggles, trials and triumphs” Their music is influenced by legendary artists which include

James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Their pick is printed on our white delrin .80mm material. We love this pick, because it really shows how detailed we can get with our printing. All of those little tiny circles really came out crisp and clean. We also love the red and black combo. It is great pick that really gets the bands name out to their fans. You can find out more about the band Forgetful Jones on their myspace page at:
http://www.myspace.com/fjrock . If you are in the Massachusetts area please be sure to check this band out!

Lately, at the Clayton custom department, we have been noticing some really cool black and white designs created by our customers, and we wanted to show them off! All of these designs were created for white delrin picks, and they have a really classy look. Using a full bleed black and white design can create the illusion of having a patterned pick, such as the pick shown on the farthest left. There is a lot of freedom with these kinds of designs, even though only one color is used, and they are always eye-catching. Whether they are for a band, a wedding, or a business promotion, black and white art is an example of how simplicity can often be the best way of creating an appealing design.

We have been getting lots of requests to put up pictures of our 2010 NAMM booth. I finally got around to getting them on here. We had a double decker booth this year with a lounge at the top. In addition we had 2 sound proof offices to conduct meetings in. As anyone who has ever been to NAMM knows, it is very loud! Without the sound proof rooms it can be quite impossible to get any business done, especially in Hall C were we are located.

Just wanted to give everyone an update on some of the amazing picks we are printing on our black raven material. We have been getting so many interesting designs, we can’t help but share these with everyone. All of the ones I selected today show all kinds of different shading, effects and detail. One of the hardest things to get to turn out on a pick are flesh tones. As you can see on the Krakshi pick we really got the realism of the hand. Plus all of the picks have incredible detail. If you are interested in purchasing some of our black raven picks you won’t regret it! They come in 3 gauges, .50mm, .80mm, and 1.00mm. Prices for these picks start at only $39 for 100 white imprint and $69 for 100 full color imprinting.

Red and Black always seem to turn out flawless together.
These are some that we just imprinted this week. This combination is one of the most popular color schemes that we imprint. The Cherry and IRAL pick is a good example of what kind of coverage of solid black we can imprint. We often get many orders with a solid black background and just a name or small logo on it. We usually do not accept this for imprinting because it tends to not turn out quite so well and with past orders we had complaints about the outcome. Now we recommend that you do not imprint the pick with more then 50% coverage of a single solid color. The way the IRAL pick uses a large white imprint and some red with the black we were able to print it flawlessly. The Cherries use a little more black, but as you can see put together it’s not more then 50% coverage so it turned out well too. If you are looking for a black background, we would really suggest getting our Black Raven picks instead. Speaking of black raven we should have included a scan of one with red on it. The red and white really look great on our Black Raven. You can check out examples of this on an older post of mine named Black Raven.
