This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Way Cool Jr., an 80′s rock tribute act that is based in Southern California. They have performed alongside many great bands such as Guns ‘n’ Roses, Blue Oyster Cult, Steppenwolf, Bad Company, etc. They replicate the energy and look of the 80′s in its most decadent form! The member of the band who ordered the guitar picks from Clayton is Phi Nguyen. He was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States during a time of strife in his home country. He was given his 1st guitar at the age of 13 after his father passed away and he never stopped playing from that day on. He idolized Kiss and emulated them. You can find out more about Way Cool Jr. on YouTube…or through their site at www.waycooljr.net.
The Way Cool Jr. picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which makes the bright colors in their design really pop! Order your own custom picks today at www.claytoncustom.com!
“Tom Dixon is an award winning vocalist and entertainer who, like many other performers, got his start in music singing in the church choir. He was born on a small farm in Tewksbury, MA and moved to New Hampshire in the 1st grade. Tom always knew he wanted to be a singer. He spent his younger days singing along to old Kenny Rodgers tapes that his father would play. Tom experimented with many different genres of music from rock and country to even R & B. In the end, you just can’t take the country out of the boy. After watching the “Garth Brooks LIVE from Central Park” video he declared, “I am going to do that!” This was the beginning of what has become one of New England’s hottest country bands.
Tom had taken guitar lessons at a very young age, but put it down for many years. In college he decided to pick it up again and the moment he learned a few chords he was itching to learn how to write music and start a band. Tom gathered up a few band members and they started to work on honing their craft. Tom made sure that they spent months down in the basement learning the tunes and making sure they were tight. Tom didn’t want to just play in a band, he wanted to put on a show. When they finally starting booking gigs there was no stopping the them! Tom has continued to hone his craft as a vocalist, songwriter, entertainer and guitarist. He was named the NHCMA “Male Vocalist of The Year” in 2005, “Duo of the Year” 2006 with his friend Jodie Cunningham and most recently the 2011 New England Country Music Organization’s (NECMO) Entertainer of The Year.
Tom has continued to work on his song writing skills and has played several writers nights and open mics in Nashville, TN at places such as the legendary Blue Bird Cafe. Tom pulls influences from such artists as: Gary Allan, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, Jason Aldean and legends like Johhny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Tom is determined and will not let go of the dream. With the band that they have built, he has had an opportunity to open for artists such as: Alan Jackson, The Zac Brown Band, Sugarland, Phil Vassar & Dusty Drake. Tom and the band will also be opening for Eric Church in August of 2012.”
About The Tom Dixon Band:
“With a unique combination of smooth country vocals and an explosive live performance, The Tom Dixon Band has given birth to a new way of delivering that sweet country sound, with a heartpumping, foot-stomping beat that can only be viewed as a bit spicy, smooth, southern country rock. In 2012 The Tom Dixon Band is touring the east coast from Maine to Virginia. Since forming in 2005, The band’s every performance commands the stage and draws the excitement and rapt enthusiasm of their audience. They have captivated audiences in a multitude of venues by keeping their focus on bringing the most up-to-date and entertaining show possible. The Tom Dixon Band has been invited to perform in many high profile venues where they deliver the opening performance for such notable acts as Alan Jackson, The Zac Brown Band, Sugarland, Phil Vassar, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kip Moore and Dusty Drake as well as live back-up vocals & rhythm guitar for Nashville’s own Crossin’ Dixon. The band has been included in shows for 97.5 WOKQ (Dover, NH) on numerous occasions including 7 years in a row for the WOKQ Countryfest at Prescott Park in Portsmouth, NH. The Tom Dixon Band released their first original CD, “Rock Hard Country”, back in 2007 and then their second album entitled “Truckin” in 2011.” Band members include: Tom Dixon – Lead Vocals / Rhythm Guitar, David Wilson – Lead Guitar/Vocals, Billy “Thumpah” Ferraro – Drums, Leo Melanson – Fiddle/Steel/Guitar/Vocals and John “Crawdaddy” Crawford – Bass.

This week’s Pick of the Week was created by Christian Vasquez of Off The Turnpike.
“Since 2011, Off The Turnpike has made it their mission to wake up New York’s long dormant rock scene with a powerful and diverse sound all their own. The band’s hard rock roots are tempered with an emphasis on melody, grooves and the unexpected. From Andy Sexton’s soulful and commanding vocals, to Christian Vasquez’s driving guitars and the beastly rhythm section of bassist Shawn Abraham and drummer Steve Kurlat, Off The Turnpike is here to confound expectations and electrify fans of raw, honest, and uncompromising music. Drawing inspiration from music of all genres and fusing it into a cohesive and powerful mix, Off The Turnpike is blazing forward in surprising new directions. With the release of their self produced self-titled debut album, the band is pushing their music beyond New York and bring the news of rock’s revival to the hungry masses. You’re not ready. But they are.”
Off The Turnpike has been together for little over two years; Christian started the band with Shawn Abraham (bass). On August 25th they will be celebrating their one year anniversary of playing live shows with a live show at Fontana’s NYC. Their most recent achievement was the release of their debut album on June 19 of this year.
The Off The Turnpike picks were made on our white pearl material guitar picks, which have a marbleized quality and glossy finish that looks classy with the deep red logo of the band. To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for UnEnano, a guitar player in the Latin band Caramelos de Cianuro, from Venezuela. The band was formed in 1991. They recorded their first songs, “Nadando a Través De la Galaxia” (Swimming Across the Galaxy) and “Tu Mamá Te Va a Pegar” (Your mom is going to hit you), in 1992.
A year later, the group signed up to CNR and released an EP called Las Paticas de la Abuela (Grandma’s Little Feet), followed by the band’s first album, Cuentos Para Adultos (Tales for Adults), in 1994. Performing a mixture of Latin Punk and alternative rock, Caramelos de Cianuro returned in 1996 with Harakiri City, released by Polygram. Two years later, original drummer Pablo Martínez was replaced by Alfonso Tosta, and the group soon toured with Colombian band Aterciopelados. In 2000 they released their album Miss Mujerzuela (Miss Whore), which achieved platinum status in Venezuela in 2001. In 2006 they released their second most recent album, Flor De Fuego, (Flower of Fire) with “Como Serpiente” (Like Snake) promoted as the lead off single. In the year 2010 the group released their latest album “Caramelos de Cianuro”.

UnEnano’s guitar picks were made out of our white delrin pick material. One one side the picks have UnEnano’s name with a pair of wings, which was inspired by the wing tattoos on his back. On the other side, there is a thumbprint that marks exactly where he holds the picks when he plays, which we thought was very clever! This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the Zero Recall band. “The band is relatively new, and is an all out, fun time cover band from New York City. The members of the band are mostly financial services people during the day and closeted, wannabe rock and roll stars at night. The goal every time they play is to make awesome music and to make the crowd dance and sing along. They all come from different backgrounds and draw from many musical genres for their performances. They’re doing classic rock hits 70′s- 2k’s and they are starting to get a decent following. NY city bar based rock and roll is what they are delivering, and a good time is pretty much a guarantee!” To find out more about Zero Recall, visit their site at http://www.zerorecallband.com/ or check them out on Facebook! The Zero Recall band picks were made on our white pearl material, which gives the awesome flames in their design a nice 3D quality. To order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Up a Creek. “Up a Creek is a Bellevue based shed bred group of fellas playing Southern Idaho Folk ‘n Roll. Featuring original song writing, the band can best describe their music as a mix of folk and rock…Acoustic guitars. Electric guitars. Whats the difference? Its all in the story. These boys tell a lot of stories. Stories about lovers and losers, sinners and fools. Sifting through the pieces. Redemption always seeming to be just a bit out of reach. So come on out and join their friends and families for some drinkin and strummin small town honky tonkin! Just a few black eyes and angry wives!” Find out more about Up a Creek at http://upacreekmusic.com. The Up a Creek picks were made on our colored pearl guitar pick material. These picks can be custom color matched as well as having a custom design print. Up a Creek chose a rustic brown/red color that suites their style, and they feature their simple and clean black logo for a really professional look. This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band Lovely Goodbye. Lovely Goodbye began as a rock band comprised of four friends from the hills of Appalachia in Johnson City, Tennessee. Coming together from Classic Rock, Punk, Country, and Progressive backgrounds, Lovely Goodbye has evolved from each member’s influences into one of East Tennessee’s premiere original bands. All the members sought to keep the the core principles of the best music alive: professionalism, fun, and a quality live show. The best rock artists combine anthem-like lyrics, a voice that clings to the edge of strong guitar riffs and progressions, and a tight rhythm section that marches the listener through the album and back to the beginning, ready for more. Opening for many national touring acts, they saved up enough to record and released their debut Self Titled album in 2010, with a follow-up expected in 2012. Recently, the band has added a rhythm guitarist to let singer, Sean McCurry, focus his attention on fully being a frontman and entertainer.
Lovely Goodbye is Sean McCurry, Jeff Dotson, Brandon Lambert, Bryan Gibson, and Max Crawford

This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band SpaceBand. SpaceBand is a cover band from Bellingham, WA that focuses on R&B/Hip-hop hits from the 90′s as well as current, chart-topping dance tunes. SpaceBand prides itself on being a 100% live cover band with no backing tracks, so no two shows are exactly alike. To round out their repertoire, SpaceBand tastefully sprinkles in some classic rock, funk, and Motown. Todd Templeton on drums and Aeden Hunter on bass provide the solid, funky foundation on which a temple of soul is built with Brian Hillman’s powerful vocals leading the way. Charlie Elmore’s rhythm guitar permeates with warm splendor, and Baron Kim’s funky riffs and face-melting solos grab hold of you in a way you can’t shake. Every gig is a party with the seats emptied and the dance floor packed.
We are excited to present this week’s Pick of the Week, which was made for the band Ashturn. “Ashturn is a Flemish (Belgian) band formed by Steve (drums), Raf (bass) and Mark (guitar) in 2003. After about a year of rehearsals and song writing Raf switched his bass guitar for a microphone and Tom joined the band as the new bass player. Dennis, who used to be in another band with Steve and Raf, joined the band as the second guitar player a few months later. 8 years later, Ashturn still has the same line-up. They are a bunch of very good friends who mainly want to have fun and who really enjoy making music together (which is probably the reason they have already survived this long as a band).”
“Ashturn plays a healthy mix of metal and hardcore and is influenced by a lot of modern and classic bands in both these genres. They’ve played a lot of gigs in youth clubs, rock bars and on the occasional festival, mainly in the Flemish part of Belgium but also occasionally abroad. One of the festival gigs they played was the result of Ashturn getting the most votes from the audience at a local rock contest. Their latest recording effort is an EP called “Heaven or a dark cold day in hell” which can be listened to for free in it’s entirety at www.ashturn.com. ”
“Ashturn is at the moment rehearsing for some upcoming gigs. In about two months time work will begin on some new songs which will hopefully lead to new recording sessions later. ”

“As a bass player, I’ve always preferred the bigger rounded triangle shape picks. I play a down tuned 5 string bass so I need something to grab on to while furiously hitting the B string :-) I had been using the same picks for years (made by a major brand) so I started to look for a company that could make me some picks with a custom design that are also equally comfortable as the ones I was used too. This took a lot of research. No company seemed to offer the right combination of materials, thickness, shape and printing possibilities that I was looking for until I found the website of Clayton Custom. A few minutes of trying out the fantastic custom guitar pick designer led me to the conclusion that my search had ended. For the design I chose one of the very nice band logo’s that was made by our guitar player Mark Vandebroek. Once the picks arrived I was extremely happy with the quality. These picks definitely offer the comfort I was looking for. On top of that, they were actually a tiny bit stiffer than the ones from my old brand which actually improved the clear, natural but also very punchy sound I am always looking for! So, great job by Clayton custom! Now I just need to make sure I can hold on to them as everyone I show them to (fans, fellow musicians, family and friends) wants to keep one for him/herself!”
Ashturn’s picks were made on our acetal guitar pick material, in the rounded triangle shape. We especially like how the shape of the picks fit really nicely with the band logo. To create and order your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
This week’s Pick of the Week was created for the band The Darlins. “In September of 2008, singer/songwriter and founding member of her former LA based duo, The Darlins, Portland- born guitarist, Jude Toy, asked co-worker and fellow singer/songwriter and Nashville native, Erinn Bates, if she wanted to write and perform together around town. From the first writing appointment, they knew they had something special. Jude’s rocking acoustic guitar and harmonies blended harmoniously with Erinn’s bluegrass-tinged lead vocals and mandolin. In 2009, The Darlins were reborn and opened for country stars Darryl Worley and Andy Griggs and were asked to take part in the Music City showcase, Alabama Line. Their rootsy harmony-riched sound has helped them play venues like Music City Roots and The Bluebird Cafe as well as have their original songs placed on network television. Listen for their songs on The Sportsman’s Channel’s Dead Dog Walking and The Syndicate as well as ABC’s GCB. To find out more about The Darlins, visit their site at http://www.thedarlins.com/. The Darlins’ picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, which makes their hot pink logo really stand out! Create and order your own custom guitar picks at www.claytoncustom.com today!
This week’s Pick of the Week was designed and ordered by Charlton Young for his band, Tryst. Tryst, is a “top 40” acoustic cover band. They play a lot of the newer pop songs that are coming out and do a lot of mash ups with songs you would never think to mash up. Their influences include Chevelle, Howie Day, Boyce Avenue, Cee-lo green, Jason Derulo, Oasis, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Pink, and Ke$ha. The band has been around for a few years, but Charlton joined just a couple months ago after their guitar player left without any notice and forced them to cancel a bunch of gigs. Charlton says that this set-back upset a lot of bar and club owners, so it has been difficult for Tryst to get back into the scene, but slowly they are getting back out there. Find out more about Tryst on their website at www.tryst-chicago.com
Tryst’s custom guitar picks were made on our white delrin guitar pick material, and the bright white really makes their vibrant red logo “pop!” To create and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for musician James Cademan. “James Cademan is no stranger on the local scene of Sarasota, Florida where he
currently writes, performs, records, and mixes his original music. Cademan’s
music style denotes a contemporary folk sound as it has an easy listening,
melancholy driven pulse. The lyrics are pondering, evocative and full of life
experiences, reflective of styles from bands such as 3 Doors Down and Creed.
In 2009, Cademan left a position as VP of a nationally known Food Service
Consulting firm to pursue writing and performing music full time. Since then
he has released his debut album entitled “Unplugged and Away”, an EP
containing five acoustic versions of his most popular songs. The album is
available on iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Emusic and many more online outlets.
Best Buy Music has also released the album in stores in September 2011. To
listen and purchase autographed CD’s visit www.jamescademan.com/store.cfm
Cademan plays as a solo act and in live performances. He plays Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar and/or Keyboards. He has chosen both the black celluloid picks and the .05mm red colored delrin (shown at right) picks with the iconic Cademan Wings logo on it. The black celluloid picks are offered as give aways at shows and also have been turned into jewelry and accessories which can be purchased at shows and at the online store (www.jamescademan.com/store.
Cademan designed the iconic Cademan Wings logo to symbolize an experience he had years ago as a teen. One night he was awakened with the distinct and uneasy feeling that someone was watching him. There standing next to his bed was a dark shadow-like figure wearing a wide brimmed “gaucho” style hat and along black cape. Although the room was pitch black, the outline of the figure was blacker than the dark. Feeling that the shadow figure’s intentions were evil he found the courage to jump out of bed and run out of the room. Returning to the room a while later, the figure was gone. On the next night Cademan was once again awakened by a visitor. Only this time there was no dark entity. Instead, there was a giant man with short blonde hair wearing a white toga and crimson sash standing at the foot of his bed. He was at least seven feet tall. Interestingly though he did not have wings as you might think an angel would. The angel never moved his mouth but James distinctly heard him say “I am Cademan. I’ve been sent to protect you”. After these experiences, Cademan (aka, Jim Richards), believed someone was watching over him and since then the name “Cademan” took on the meaning of “Protection, Guidence and Success”. In 2008, James assumed the name “Cademan” as his stage name….because, to him, the name is associated with success. Thus, the iconic sweeping angel wing design and “Cademan” emboldened in the logo design was created to represent strength and success. (Listen to the entire story of Cademan’s angel experience by visiting the February 2, 2012 blog entry at www.jamescademan.com/blog.cfm). Cademan is currently recording his sophomore album entitled “Next Life Now”, set for release in Winter 2012/Spring 2013. He is also preparing to tour the Summer of 2012 with The Extreme Tour. Visit www.jamescademan.com for tour dates and cities.”
This week’s featured Pick of the Week was made for the band Scarlet Machine. “Scarlet Machine is a four-piece rock band made up of teens from the San Francisco Bay Area. These young musicians are making music like it used to be: jamming, not manufacturing. With roots in jazz, rock and funk, Scarlet Machine is about musicianship, great songs, and energetic performances. What you see is what you get.
All too often, bands in concert sound nothing like their CD. Scarlet Machine refuses to be one of those bands. Scarlet Machine draws from a wide array of inspirations because its members are so different. Kyle’s main inspirations are bands like Creed and Paramore. Keller’s inspirations roll to Queen and Radiohead. Nick’s include AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses. Matt’s are bands like A Day to Remember and The Devil Wears Prada.
Kyle says: “We are sort of like a recipe of rock. Each of us is a certain ingredient that wouldn’t be very good by itself, but combined it tastes amazing!” Their latest studio effort, “On Fire” was released September 24th, 2011 and was recorded and engineered by Teddy Gyi, mixed by Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios and mastered by Brad Gillis of Night Ranger.Scarlet Machine will be applying their creative ingenuity to a new studio effort due for release in late 2012. Scarlet Machine will get your blood pumping. Their energy, passion and skill promise audiences nothing less than a true rock show.”
To find out more about Scarlet Machine, visit their facebook page at http://www.scarletmachine.com/. Scarlet Machine’s custom guitar picks were made on our acetal material, and we loved the intricacy of their design. To create and order your own custom picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
This Week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Ghost Train Trio. The custom picks were designed and ordered by Clayton Customer Pat Mackinnon, who is the Ghost Train Trio vocalist, guitar-slinger and songwriter. “His original vision was to combine rock, surf and country with a Rat Pack chaser. When double bassist Joel Putzier and drummer Dan Cunneen saddled-up to the bar, the Mackinnon vision was fulfilled. In just a few short months Ghost Train Trio has skillfully taken the bite and swagger of hard-rock and blended it with Sun-era Elvis, Dick Dale’s twang and Tony Joe White’s soulful “Polk Salad” swamp. To round out their sound, they tossed in a dash of Willie Dixon’s electrified blues and a touch of Waylon and Willie’s outlaw drawl. Put it all together and you get Ghost Train Trio. (The band happily defies easy classification, so until somebody comes up with something better, the tongue-tied “hard-rocking, bluesy and soulful outlaw countrypolitan surf” will just have to do.)
With titles like “Lonesome Road” and “Brother to the Wind”, Mackinnon’s songs reflect isolation and a restless movement that no doubt springs from his formative years in the 49th state. Like all good songwriters, a common thread runs though Mackinnon’s material, but the songs aren’t just re-writes of the last one. Each distinct tune stands on its own and stands up to the last. Mackinnon’s voice echoes a rough-hewn crooner – meandering the wide gulf between Bob Dylan and Dean Martin – with a touch of the trademark Rotten snarl for good measure. Lyrically, he touches on themes of running, from your past – and your demons, and then making another dash for the next boundary. Ghost Train Trio has found the right mix musically, with their personalities and their style. Even when playing a jazzy song like “Just a Shame” or a dark ballad like “Evelyn”, Ghost Train Trio’s rock roots are clear – but not obvious. Put simply, even when they don’t rock, they do.” -Gary Karconclion, The Puget Sound Perspective

Pat was kind enough to write about his experience with Clayton Picks:
“I’ve been using Clayton picks exclusively for many years. I used to get really frustrated with standard plastic picks because they would easily break and get grooves along the sides from running my pick up and down the strings. Also the gloss finish always felt a little slippery in my fingers. When I discovered Clayton Acetal picks I fell in love with them and have never turned back. They don’t break, they hold up to all kinds of abuse and they grip your fingers and stay put. They will wear down after a while but whenever I notice that one of my picks is worn down around the end I know that I have put a lot of time in on my guitar with that particular pick and that’s a good feeling. I used to play with 1 mm which are great for fast picking and heavy attack. But with Ghost Train Trio I switch from electric to acoustic quite a bit and I like using a thinner pick on an acoustic so now I’m using the .8 mm because it has some flexibility which I like for acoustic srumming and is still firm enough to support fast picking and give me some crunch when I need it. So when I realized that I could make my own custom printed Clayton Picks I was thrilled and wasted no time in placing my order. Now I’ve got my favorite picks with my own cool design on it. It’s a great thing!”
The Ghost Train Trio picks were made on our Acetal guitar pick material, and we really liked the look of their full bleed yellow and black design. To create and order your own custom picks, be sure to visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
The chosen Pick of the Week this week was made for the band Freaky Urban Troopers. They are a funk-rock/progressive-rock band from Vienna/Austria founded in 2011 who are currently starting out, playing (and winning;) several band-contests with national and international gigs and recording their first album in summer 2012. Here is a bio taken from their official site at http://www.freakyurbantroopers.com/:
Groovy beats, funky rock-guitars, freaky rhythms, fantastic melodies and a voice which enlightens your soul with pure desire and deliciousness. We come to rock your house, whatever you are up to. You may have heard of urban legends? …well…then you will probably like THIS:
Legend has it that it all started out as a songwriting-project between Juri and Michi in a shabby little students’ apartment in the slums of Alsergrund, Vienna, back in the late last decade, growing with the congeniality of their comrades in arms into something more inspiring, inconceivably ingenious and thriving than they would have ever imagined (isn’t it nice to be so down to earth besides being extremely modest at the same time?). Others say it was pure determination…or neither of it…who will ever know?
Fact is, that five talented artists with music in their heart and full devotion to their musical goals are on a mission to spread their freaky urban sound among their audience, keeping them procking and grooving. Freaky Urban Troopers are a force to be reckoned with…seriously…
You can also find out more about Freaky Urban Troopers on their facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/freakyurbantroopers.
The Freaky Urban Troopers picks were made on our white pearl material, which nicely supports their detailed red and black logo art. To design and order your own custom made guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com!
This week’s Pick of the Week was ordered by Clayton customer Tudor Adrian Negru. Tudor is a “previous guitar player in Romanian heavy-metal bands Refractara, Ronin and currently lead-guitar in a newly established band called Anomaly (http://www.facebook.com/anomalybandcluj). With the main influences of the band straying more into the hard-core/metal areas but with a taint of nu-metal and hard-rock, Anomaly tries to bring something unique to the musical scene in Cluj-Napoca and Romania. The band is currently working on writing material for their first demo album which should be finished by July 2012 and have already had several live performances along with some of the most well established and appreciated bands in the scene.
In order to bring that huge metal grind to the overall sound of the band, using heavier string gauges really does make a difference. Still, a common challenge that every guitar player in this genre faces is how to keep the tone tight and defined while also making it easier on yourself when playing heavy gauges.”
Tudor explains how he found Clayton picks: “Having being recommended Clayton USA and being handed a custom Clayton pick some time ago by one of the most established metal guitar players in the field, Balauru’ of Trooper, the search for that missing and much-needed element ended. It wasn’t long until I turned to have my own custom order with Steve Clayton USA. I find it that the Acetal 1.9 mm gauge suits my needs perfectly. The matte finish really keeps the pick where and how you need it to be while the material-gauge combination means that I can finally get that attack, control and tone definition that I was very much searching for even in the middle of a crazy live gig.”
“The custom layout features the above mentioned 1.9 mm Acetal standard shape but with the “Ronin” logo which stands for “one with no lord nor master” inspired by Japanese culture. The custom design was provided by established artist Paul Pantazescu (www.paulpantazescu.com) and in conjunction with Clayton craftsmanship it screams attitude, professionalism and strength.” To order your own custom guitar picks like Tudor’s, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the band Whiskey Twin. “Whiskey Twin is a Minneapolis band that plays an eclectic mix of rock and alternative covers, in addition to original songs. The band met through a program at Minneapolis’ Twin Town Guitars, where bands play a set at a local bar after six weeks of rehearsals. The members of Whiskey Twin enjoyed the experience of playing together so much they wanted to continue and play their own gigs. They continue to hone their chops through ongoing involvement with one of Twin Town’s instructors, Mark Wade, who is also the bassist for the band The Melismatics.
The band is fronted by Mandy Simmons’ strong, confident and tender vocals. Mandy is supported by three diverse guitarists; Ed Fruin, Ed Wilms and John Morris. The band’s heartbeat comes from Tom Parsons on bass, and Tony Scott’s driving drums and occasional primal screams.
The band picked their name as homage to Twin Town Guitars, where they met; and Whiskey Junction, the bar in which they first played together. Ed Fruin designed the picks and took inspiration from the labels on the bottles of premium spirits.” Whiskey Twins’ picks were made on our white pearl guitar pick material, which best supports parchment background and variety of color in the design. To create your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com!
See http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whiskey-Twin/253379511378342 on Facebook for Whiskey Twin band updates and future gigs.
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for blues artist Jeff Strahan. Jeff usually plays with a three piece band made up of himself (guitar), bass and drums. He also plays piano and B-3. Here are a couple reviews of Jeff:
“Strahan is a fiery Texas spirit, a killer guitar player & piano pounder and singer, as wild as the high plains from which he hails, and as cool as the hill country where he lives. He’s as real & strong as lightning, I swear, and I love being around him, to hear how he’s going to knock me out next.” -Walt Wilkins
This week’s Pick of the Week was made for the Michael Matthews Band. Formed in Southwest Florida by Craig “Michael Matthew” Strickler, ten years ago, the Michael Matthews Band is a talented group of seasoned musicians that are appealing to all audiences bringing their own style and flair to the rock music, popular cover songs and their own original material that they perform. Mix that with the heart, soul and passion that these guys have for music and you have a winning combination!! They currently play the club circuit in Southwest Florida. This week’s Pick of the Week is for the band “Sister Mary Tarantula.” They are a working rock band based in Houston, TX. They have one independent album out, and they are currently writing material for their follow up album. The members of the band are: Mark Neely/Rhythm Guitar/lead vocals, Ernest Martinez/Drums, Pablo Gonzales/Bass, and Carlos Ulloa/Lead Guitar. Their style draws from a lot of classic heavy rock, such as Black Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy, etc… and they do a Dio tribute band as well called “Holy Diver.” Carlos was the member of the band who ordered custom picks from us. He says that, as a performer, he was a late bloomer into the guitar love affair. He started playing drums and took up the guitar at age 21. He has now been playing for 21 years, and he can seriously site his influences as “any one whom he has ever seen play!” but some of his favorites are the usual suspects of Vai, Pertrucci & Eric Johnson. You can sample the music of Sister Mary Tarantula here: http://www.myspace.com/

This week’s Pick of the Week was created and ordered by customer Enzo Penizzotto. He is currently the bass player in The Bebe Buell Band (Bebe is Liv Tyler’s mother). The band consists of Bebe on vocals, Jim Walls (Das Damen) & Pete Marshall on guitar (Iggy Pop, Samhain), Zac Lasher (U-Melt) on keys, Louisa Mysteria Bradshaw (Angels are jealous of her singing voice) on backgrounds and New Jersey’s own Sarah Tomek on drums. They have a new album called “Hard Love” – the pick stems from the album artwork. Enzo played with Bebe back in 1998-2000 before joining up with joan jett in 2000. He reunited with her last year in July. Other artists that Enzo has worked with include joan jett (2000-2010), the Batusis (with Cheetah Chrome from the Dead Boys and Sylvain Sylvain from the New York Dolls), played on the newest Beggars & Thieves “We are the Broken Hearted” album recently released on Frontiers label, also Eddie Sperry’s Screed the Psychological Profile album. In his downtime while at home, Enzo also subs on a Broadway musical show called Memphis. And he teaches from time to time at The School of Rock in Manhattan. He was a founding member of his own band Speed McQueen, which he started at 19 with Mark Lewis (produced Fly Leaf) on guitar/vocals and Joey Crifo on drums. Speed McQueen was picked up by Mercury records and had records produced by Tim Patalan (Sponge) and Ed Stasium (Ramones, Rolling Stones, etc) and toured extensively. Enzo was born in New York City and still lives there. He has been playing the bass since he was 14 years old. Professionally since he was 19 years old. Enzo says that he has been using Clayton picks forever, specifically the Acetal Rounded Triangle in a 1mm gauge. Find out more about Enzo and his career at www.enzopenizzotto.com. We thought that the Hard Love picks were a perfect feature design for the day after Valentine’s Day! This week’s Pick of the Week was made for The Brian Davis Band, which formed in 2004 for a one-night-only concert to raise funds for the music departments in the local Catholic schools. That night was an overwhelming success both monetarily and spiritually and ended with a feeling of what’s next! Since then, that concert has grown to an annual event drawing near a thousand together each year in worship and has raised nearly $35,000 dollars for youth music programs.
In 2007, the band was finding themselves more in demand for youth rallies, worship nights and church festivals. That demand came with a special call from God to begin to share their faith journey through original songs. As the songs poured out, the ministry continued to grow and touch the lives of countless Christians from their region. 2009 was truly a breakout year for the band; seeing their message spread to a larger audience, seeing their gifts helping the people of Uganda through a nationally released compilation album titled “Unified By Grace,” making their first television appearance on ” Lift Him Up Kansas” and completing their first studio album “Stand” which released in January of 2010.
The band is looking forward to the places God will call them to in 2012 and the opportunity to serve his people through their ministry.
For more information regarding the band visit them online at www.myspace.com/thebriandavisband42 or “like them” on Facebook!
The Brian Davis Band chose to have their picks made on our orange delrin material, which nicely supports their intricate black design. We loved the fine detail and creativity of their artwork. Brian told me that the design on the pick was inspired by Luke 12:24 which speaks of how the Raven, who has nothing, is cared for and loved by God. This passage intends to teach us that we, who have so many gifts, are loved as much… if not more. The Brian Davis Band has the same design for one of their t-shirts as well as on the front of their drum kit. To create your own custom guitar picks, visit www.claytoncustom.com today!
