Pick of the Week

Pick of the Week – Dirty Dan’s Cool Rockin’ Daddies

This week we have a very colorful pearl pick by Dirty Dan’s Cool Rockin’ Daddies! The colors are so vibrant and pretty on this pick, it was a sure pick for our Pick of the Week! You have to check out their website at: http://www.dirtydanbuck.com/ The first thing you see is their logo (like their pick) creativly placed.  Then you have gotta love their slogan “They’re old, they’re angry, and they’ll rock your ass off!” Ha! Pretty funny :).  Anyway, Dirty Dan Buck, the band frontliner, used to be  in a band called The Boyzz from Illinoizz, which was a late 1970’s band.  They were very successful and have worked with tons of huge artists including Areosmith and Meatloaf. Dirty Dan is now with his new band “Cool Rockin’ Daddies” which features Tadd King (quite the guitarist!) playing guitar, Joe Gagliardo playing bass, Jimmi Perrino on keyboard, and Scott Kelly on drums.  They perform at festivals and concerts throughout the region, and feature a hard rocking’ R&B experience. They recently played on the top of a 166 ft river boat on the Illinois River in Seneca, IL for the club H2O. I put a picture below of them on the boat. Looks like they had a great time.  They also had a picture of how they sell the guitar picks on their Facebook. page. They are making amazing earrings out them to sell at concerts.  So neat! The picks really make amazing earrings.

Pick of the Week – Sinister Ego

This week we have a heavy Rounded Triangle Acetal Pick with a one color imprint. The great thing about Acetal is that it looks nice, and plays even better! This pick was printed by the band Sinister Ego.  Their bio from their website is below:

“SINISTER EGO is a creative mixing of the talents of Jeff “Necro” formerly of Casket Snatch, Jason “DOA” formerly of Corpsescrew, Adrian “A J Shotgun Vegas” formerly of DV8, with Brandon “Raven” on bass, and Jason “Hardcore” on drums. The five rockers put their heads together to compile a sound of music like none other. A little metal, and little punk and some old fashioned rock make Sinister Ego a band for all music lovers. Their first song “Lethal”, produced by SER Studios in Chandler, is a testament to their talents and originality. Mixing memorable catchy vocals, screaming guitars, and ingenious explosive drumming with influences like Danzig, Pantera, Metallica, Motley Crue, and Black Sabbath, they’ve created a unique sound for all audiences to enjoy.”

It is great to see such simple yet stylized guitar pick!.  We also like how the pick matches with the bands overall look.  Make sure to check out their website at: http://www.sinisterego.com/ They have tons of their music on their site that you can download the MP3 of. Very cool!

Pick of the Week – The Fabulous Po’ Boys:

This week we are featuring a guitar pick that is from one of our endorsed bands, The Fabulous Po’ Boys! They are a bluesy/rootsy/pop rock blend of music from artist like The Beatles, The Byrds, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffett and more. Their band consists of members Warren Payne and Ed Johnson. They have been together since 1991 and have played all around the country. I grabbed the really funny story about how their band was formed from their website: “The band essentially started out as a dare. While chewing a rubber chicken dinner at a regional advertising convention in Denver, Warren and Ed were just two more ad execs in the room suffering through, what can only be described as, mannequins pretending to be a band. Bad songs, bad hair, bad clothes, no life and an empty dance floor. While having really only shared a few beers by a pool deck at another ad conference in Nashville just six months before, Warren and Ed at least knew one another were from Seattle and had spent some time earning their lunch money in front of a microphone with a guitar. Warren approached Ed (who was on his third beer, ignoring the show and wondering what the hell Turkey Chop was) and had the following proposition; “Janet (conference organizer and dear friend of the Po’ Boys) says if we want, we can take over for the band when they go on a break. They said it’s okay, and Steve (a media lawyer from Minneapolis) is up for playing drums.”
Ed replied, “Dude, we’re not even a band.”
“Do you know Louie, Louie?” asked Warren.
“Yeah,” said Ed skeptically.
“Twist and Shout?”

“Yeah.”
“Johnny B. Goode?”
“Yeah.”
“There you go. Three songs right there. We’ll get up, play, have some laughs and we’re done.”
Of course, they played for an hour.
The dance floor was packed; the crowd kept yelling out numbers that the intrepid trio happened to know and with everyone properly lubed, the band played on. The band that had been usurped didn’t seem to mind…they were getting paid anyway. Those guys had no soul at all. What kind of musician gives up his stage?

After the “gig” another conference organizer looking to set up entertainment at a national conference scheduled for Portland, Oregon the following spring asked if the boys were available to play the big after-party.
Again, replied Ed, “We’re not even a band.” (Did that stop us before?)”

Their pick is printed on our pearl celluloid. We love how the little palm tree looks on the pearl picks! Please make sure to visit their website at: http://www.fabulouspoboys.com/

Pick of the Week – JamiSun

This week we have a full color sun graphic on our Acetal Rounded Triangle picks. Very cool!  This was created by JamiSun, who is a Charleston guitarist/singer/songwriter.  He is pretty much booked with gigs everyday in his area, which is very impressive. Pick of the Week – Hot Neon Magic

This is a bright one! Neon Yellow and Pink are the colors on this guitar pick! Wow is it bright! Check out their website at: http://www.hotneonmagic.com/

I love the way the band dresses, and I even love their band bio “Relive the skinny ties, spandex and synthesizers with Vermont’s premier 1980s cover band. Rock out to hours of totally awesome tunes from when MTV was king” It is so great to see such a neat 80’s cover band.  We also love how their guitar pick really gets the message across about who their band is! Pick of the Week – Bleu

This week we have another pick on our Acetal material! This one is by a artist named Bleu. Pick of the Week – G. Kishore Carey

This week we have a beautiful Nature Guitar Pick on our Acetal material by the artist G. Kishore Carey.  He is a worship artist, and has a recent album out titled “Contagious.” If you visit his website you can learn more about him and even purchase his music from itunes.   Below is his bio”

From juvenile detention centers to Walter Reed Army Medical Center and in many church sanctuaries in the Greater Washington D.C. area and beyond, Kishore has been blessed to minister in all types of venues. Starting in high school and working continually at craft and art, Kishore is writing songs with an honesty and raw-ness that betrays his Christian cultural upbringing and exposes a heart that seeks to honor God in word and deed.”
It is great to hear how someone uses music to inspire and help others!

Pick of the Week – Lynyrd Skynyrd

This week is a pick by the very famous band Lynrd Skynyrd. This pick is a full bleed on our Acetal Rounded Triangle .80mm guitar picks. It turned out really amazing! Almost everyone knows this bands songs. If you were to turn the radio to classic rock you are bound to hear their popular hits “Sweet Home Alabama” or “Free Bird.”  The Lynyrd Skynyrd band is in the rock’n roll hall of fame as they have sold millions of albums.  Robert Kearns, the current bassist asked us to put together his artwork and we place it on his acetal rounded triangle picks.  We think the artwork came out great!  Below are some links to hear more about this classic American band:

Pick of the Week – Lethal Saint

This week we selected a Pearl pick on our Rounded Triangle material, by the band Lethal Saint. The band plays what they often refer to as Old School Heavy Metal. They formed in 2006 on the island of Cyprus (off the coast of Greece) by the two guitarists (Andreas Kasapis and Christos Papadopoulos) and the drummer (Christi Isseyegh) and after trying out a few singers they finally found exactly the voice they were looking for to represent the band: Andreas Pouyioukas. The most recent addition to the band is Mike Papapavlou, the bassist. A demo was released after the formation of the band in 2006 and was sold out, there was also a series of limited promo copies for the cd in December 2009 which were all sold out by the following concert. The original release of their self – titled album “LethalSaint” came out in March 2010 and ever since they have been answering interviews for metal magazines online, radio shows and so on. The cd is available at www.pitchblackrecords.com . Lethal Saint is looking forward to touring the island and hosting a number of concerts with other Cypriot bands for Summer 2010!

Pick of the Week – The Tone Brothers

We have a really neat pick for this week. It is a guitar knob picture on a white pearl pick.  The knob looks amazing on this pick and looks 3-D on it! Very impressive! The detail is amazing with our print on this pick, and it is literally eye popping! This pick was designed by The Tone Brothers. They are a really amazing Atlanta based band.  To find out more about them please read their bio and check out their website below.

“Brother Doug McCombs has been laying down outrageous TONE with his guitar for the past 35 years. A veteran and founding member of Atlanta-based bands Fear Glory, Texas Crude and Gracie Moon, he’s opened for the likes of John Mayall, Buddy Guy, Ian Moore, and Gov’t Mule, and jammed with Jeff Healey. Whether rocking a packed house while headlining at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago and B.B. King’s Blues Club in Memphis, or grooving alone in his kitchen, Doug and his guitar engage in a dialog of the heart that transcends the moment. A dialog inspired and enriched by echoes of the soul-shaking TONE of his heroes– Jimi Hendrix, Mark Farner, Robin Trower, and Stevie Ray Vaughan–yet defined by his own distinctly righteous signature. Listen to him play, and know how it feels when a man and his guitar achieve total, ass-kicking TONE. TONE Brother Greg Hester grew up around Old School Gangsters & Legendary Wrestlers in Augusta, Georgia. Truly great music instantly changes the context, transporting the listener to the artistʼs world. With a clear understanding of his heritage, Greg introduces us to the voice of Southern Soul, infused with a TONE as heavy as the hot July haze. Along the way, Greg has shared the stage with Robin Trower, Warren Haynes, Johnny Winter, and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, among others. He captivates even the most jaded of crowds with a stage presence, charisma, and burn down the house intensity reminiscent of his idol and inspiration, James Brown. The power and passion of his singing is matched by the heart and humanity of his songwriting. Listen to him sing and, and witness a man whose art bears witness to the strength of soulful survival and the regenerative essence of TONE.”

Pick of the Week – John Karl

This week we selected a guitar pick by country artist John Karl.  He designed this amazing pick on our white delrin material. We love the detailed design and beautiful shades of blue.  Below is a bio about this talented artist:

“John was a success before even moving to Nashville. Nominated for North East CMA Entertainer of the Year and Best Male Vocalist, John has had a No. 1 on the MP3.com country chart with “There Goes the Neighborhood” and “Small Town” was featured in the movie American Reunion. “If you want to know where country is headed, just give a listen to John Karl,” says Rodney Phelps, a top Nashville attorney who also worked with Garth Brooks and Chris Cagle

John won the local Colgate Country Showdown in Upstate NY and had a song on Christian Country Radio with “Just Love Her” in 2003. He has toured the USA and opened for acts Ricochet, Daryl Worley and Craig Morgan just to name a few. He has played lots of festivals, including Nashville’s CMA Festival and was the house artist in 2008 at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville.

John Karl is the next big thing, with the right attitude, music, and performance style. He can get wild and pull out a tear-jerker right behind it. He knows what the fans want and he gives it to them.

Growing up in Niskayuna, N.Y., John has loved music all of his life and began singing at a young age. After high school he studied Graphic Design, was part of a professional water-ski team called the Coors Light U.S. Water-ski Show Team where he produced and performed the show and was a local Club DJ. While singing at a ski team function, a local funder made him an offer he could not refuse and helped him go to Nashville.

John moved to Nashville on Labor Day of 2002. He spent the next two years learning everything he could about the Nashville music business. He networked and got into writing circles and formed the duo Kalamity Jane. Soon after John went solo and began work on his self-produced album Redneck Rich Hillbilly Happy, released 2007.

As singer/songwriter John has a knack for a well turned phrase and is looking forward to his new CD “Are You Ready For This”. Due out in late August 2010.”

To find out more information about John, please visit his website at: www.johnkarl.net Also, you can download one of his new songs for free on his website! Use code JK1927CBY on the download page and enter you information and the code.

Pick of the Week – Gina

For this week, we selected a nice pick that combines a graphic with a signature on our Acetal.  What great design! Gina has an amazing voice and style to her music.  Here is her bio: “Singer/Songwriter Gina Borys’ music is moody and dark, drawing on life experiences, perfectly blending heavy metal and acoustic rock. With a love of all music from Led Zeppelin to Radiohead, her songs incorporate elements as expansive as the spaghetti western scores of Ennio Morricone and the gentle crooning of Tony Bennett.

Playing solo, as well as with an all-female Led Zeppelin cover band, Gina delivers a stirring performance. Whether she is emulating the iconic guitar work of Jimmy Page, or just connecting emotionally in an intimate setting, its purely her and her guitar.” Please make sure to check our her amazing video at: http://www.love-resurrected.com/lastgig/

If you want a cool design just like Gina’s please check our her graphic designers website at:http://www.beyondblond.com

Pick of the Week – Still Within

This week we selected a really creative pick by the band Still Within. We selected this pick because we loved how they used their logo to fit perfectly into the shape of the guitar pick. Still Within is a Canadian Pop band that has topped the Reverb Nation charts at #1 in capital of northern BC. Their music delivers the newest mix of pop rock and song writing ingenuity. Please read more of their bio below:

“These talented individuals have acquired a long line of touring experience sharing stages with some of Canada’s top signed rock artists.  Over their musical careers they have accumulated a wide variety of influences and originality to mould their music into a distinct dimension of euphoria. Andrew Arsenault, founder and forefather of the band “Still Within” that just recently released a CD titled “See the Signs” takes hold of his voice and guitar to conjure riffs that hypnotize and obfuscate the listener. Chad Armstrong, previous drummer of “Texas Blood Money” brings his dual-wielding hands into the fray with the promise of heart stopping strikes and unwavering precision. Dan Sittler, previously with the touring band “Offset” carries a wisdom of keys and polished guitar tones that defy his age on every account; the prodigal son. Nick Grubjesic, The bassist that previously played with “Soul Side In” loads the gun once again to show the fire that burns within his own soul.”

Victory By Revenge

This week we have selected a very creative and colorful guitar pick from a band called Victory By Revenge We selected this custom guitar pick, because we loved the vintage colors and worn look. It was printed on our Acetal material and it turned out great.  Below is their Bio from their myspace page:

“Formed in 2006 as underclassmen in high school, Victory By Revenge are five friends from Howard County, Maryland who radiate positivity through their music as well as in their everyday lives. The boys are now newcomers to the college life but their love for touring has them chomping at the bit for semesters to end and their love affair with the road to commence. Releasing their first EP, First Date Mistakes, in November of 2008, it took VBR some time to find their sound but since then they have accomplished so much because of their hands-on, persistent, and “go get ‘em” attitude. Their sugary sweet hooks about parties and high school will have you singing into the closest hairbrush for days.  To read more check out their Myspace Page at: http://www.myspace.com/victorybyrevenge

Pick of the Week, El Cheapo

El Cheapo is a rock & roll cover band from Atlanta, GA fronted by “Stuff You Should Know” podcast host Chuck Bryant. They’ve been known to tear apart a basement or two and wake the neighbors in the name of a good time. After years of working day jobs, getting married and having babies, the band formed in 2007 under the original name The Cox Project. After toiling away for a year without a rhythm section, lead guitarist Eddie Cooper, bassist Chris Cox and Bryant landed a score in drummer Jim Issa, and El Cheapo was born.

The guys use Fender and Gibson guitars and amps, and Tama drums. Their original Steve Clayton pick was inspired by their loud, fast and nasty brand of rock & roll, and love of cheap beer. They can be found in various basements playing for their pet dogs, or rocking the house of 40th birthday parties around Atlanta.

Pick of the Week, Trees on Fire

This week we selected a pick on our Green Delrin pick material, by a group named Trees on Fire. The quintet’s first full-length album Organica connects the dots between rock, dance, roots, and pop music. Recorded in Virginia and Louisiana, Organica takes listeners from the heights of the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains to the buzzing swamps and bayous of the bottom-land. Produced by Rob Evans, Eric Heigle, and Trees on Fire, the exciting original music captured on this recording is only a part of the legacy the band hopes to leave behind.

The band has raised awareness and funds for a number of organizations over its four years in existence, including Sierra Club, Appalachian Voices, Atchafalaya Basinkeeper, Building Goodness Foundation, Climate Ride, Chesapeake Climate Action Network and others. Trees on Fire was voted “Greenest Regional Band” by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine and had a song featured on Sierra Club’s national website earlier this year. The band will donate 5% of proceeds from its debut album to both Atchafalaya Basinkeeper and Appalachian Voices in an effort to keep their important work moving forward.

What an amazing and inspirational band! Check more out at their website: treesonfire.com

Pick of the Week, Bon Journey

This week we are featuing an amazing pick done on our white pearl celluloid picks.  This is a multi-color imprint with an overbleed print. It is hard to see in the picture, but we use transparent colors on our pearl picks, so you can still see the pearl pattern behind the ink.  It makes the image look almost like stained glass. This pick is for one of our newly endorsed bands, Bon Journey. Bon Journey is a Bon Jovi, and Journey Tribute band. They are awesome. They even won best of Pittsburgh! To find out more information about Bon Journey visit their website at: http://www.thebonjourneyshow.com Don’t forget to check out a video of them below:

Pick of the Week, The Rick Copus Band

This week we are featuring a full color Acetal pick, by the Rick Copus Band.  We loved the shading of the blue and black in this custom guitar pick.

“The Rick Copus Band formed in the summer of 2008. A group of professional musicians working and playing in bands and various worship teams in Bakersfield formed to make this powerful blend of rock and worship music, to serve our Lord Jesus Christ.

Rick Copus has been a professional musician since the mid 80’s; after becoming a Christian in 1995, Rick joined his church worship team and began serving the Lord with his music. In 1998 Rick formed a band from the worship team in Bakersfield called Formerly Blue, playing in coffee houses and festivals, the band made a CD(Pickin’ Up The Pieces), and was very popular in Bakersfield until their breakup in 2000.”

Now he has gone on to form The Rick Copus Band. We really like this band, as they are putting their music to good use trying to help people with cerebral palsy. It is through disability life experiences, that Rick, the band, and their families are dedicated to disability ministry. Such a great cause!
Please be sure to find out more about the band at their website is: www.therickcopusband.org

Simply glowing!

We wanted to show off some of the recent glow-in-the-dark pick designs that customers have ordered. Glow-in-the-dark picks are still a fairly new item that Steve Clayton, Inc. has provided for custom design, but they are definitely a hit! Glow picks don’t look that much different from other picks at first sight, but all you have to do is put them under a bright light for a couple minutes, and they are sure to stand out at a dark rock concert! Simple designs with thick, bold lines come out best on the glow picks, which is why we chose these three designs as great examples. Each design has a name and an image to give them the personal touch, but they are not overcrowded with detail. So, if  you are thinking about designing some custom glow picks, have a look at the picks shown here to get some ideas! To design custom glow picks: Clayton Custom

Pick of the Week, The Ray Johnston Band

This week we selected a bright orange delrin pick by The Ray Johnston Band for Pick of the week.  Our colored delrin picks can only be printed with black ink, but they sure can get an audiences attention! The band also ordered their design on our yellow delrin and pearl celluloid picks. You may have noticed we did a blog earlier about this band, here. They are a true inspiration!  This pick was created to help Ray Johnston promote a new web series featuring him.  Below is the synopsis of the program by HDNet: “HDNet is proud to introduce a new series presenting the journey of cancer survivor and former Dallas Maverick Ray Johnston and his band as they travel across the country trying to make it in the music business. The band’s journey is only a part of the story, however. The larger part of this behind-the-scenes series is the uplifting story of the band’s leader, Ray Johnston and his heroic battle with leukemia. While still trying to beat the disease, he is pursuing a new dream, traveling across country with The Ray Johnston Band. Some of the band’s performances will be fundraisers for The Ryan Gibson Foundation or TRGF.TRGF (www.trgf.org) is a Dallas based non-profit organization that supports leukemia research throughout the U.S. Ryan Gibson, like Ray Johnston, had a passion for finding a cure for leukemia. Now, through the talent of he and his band, Ray will be spreading the word about the importance of leukemia research as well as raising funds for TRGF.”

The series premieres on April 25th, 8pm eastern, so make sure to watch his inspirational journey only on HDNet. Or visit his website at: http://www.rayjohnstonband.com/

Pick of the Week, Dylan Duncan

This week we selected a beautiful pencil sketch that we reproduced on our Acetal guitar picks by Dylan Duncan.  Dylan explained the purpose of the bicycle on his pick to us below: “The bicycle art and Bicycle on the Ice song on the record, is inspired by an old photograph taken in 1962 by my dad in Vermont. It’s a great photo of a bicycle alone on an iced over lake and the feeling I got from the picture seemed to take on a whole new meaning that related to my own life. At the time I was feeling like I didn’t belong where I was currently living and so when I stumbled upon the lone bicycle on the ice, I realized it, too, didn’t belong where it was. I felt the need to write about it and it became one of the central themes and inspired the album artwork, including corresponding materials like
buttons and these guitar picks.
”  We thought this was an amazing way to let your music be inspired, even by the most unexpected things. Dylan has an album set to be released this summer called What To Keep & Let Go.  He currently has a great blog that you can follow while he creates his album located at: http://www.dylanduncan.com/whattokeep

Or for music samples of his work you can visit his myspace site at: www.myspace.com/dylanduncan

Pick of the Week, Forgetful Jones

They are quoted as their music being a “reflection of their individual and collective struggles, trials and triumphs”  Their music is influenced by legendary artists which include James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.  Their pick is printed on our white delrin .80mm material. It is great pick that really gets the bands name out to their fans.  You can find out more about the band Forgetful Jones on their myspace page at: http://www.myspace.com/fjrock. If you are in the  Massachusetts area please be sure to check this band out!

Pick of the Week, Foo Fighters

Our pick of the week for the first week of April is the Foo Fighters pick! We have been making picks for the Foo Fighters for a number of years.  They always come up with some really neat design ideas, ranging from drawings of their kids, or one of my favorites is glossy black ink of a bomb on a dark charcoal matte pick. We had never thought of trying that, but it turned out very cool looking when they made those. You can see those picks on Dave Grohl’s mic stand in the picture below.  This week we are featuring one of their newest designs, which has their Foo Fighter logo on it in Red and Blue.  The back of the picks have XXX on it in different colors. We thought this was a really classic design and wanted to feature it.  These pick are printed on our Acetal Rounded Triangle 1.00mm.  Acetal is the pick most of our big name bands use. It has a great sound, and holds up without breaking during their long performances. It is a true Professional players pick. You can see more of their picks in our blog here.

Pick of the Week, Todd Simpson and Mojo Child

This week we selected a good example of a pick on our Ultem material. We love this pick, because it uses all kind of different shades of brown on it.  Ultem can only be imprinted with either brown, red or black. These colors look best with its Amber hue.  Todd Simpson is a very accomplished musician.  He has shared the state with the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Huey Lewis,Paul Thorn and Phil Lesh and friends. Todd plays blues combined with a southern rock vibe.  He even recently preformed at the Whiskey A Go Go in L.A.  For more information on Todd and his high energy band check out the website: www.toddsimpsonandmojochild.com.

Pick of the Week, 6:AM!

Clayton Custom Pick of the Week!

This week we selected Erich Church’s pick for our pick of the week. Eric is a very acclaimed American country music singer and songwriter.  In 2006 he released his debut album Sinners Like Me.  That album produced an amazing total of four chart singles on the Billboard country charts, including the Top 20 hits “How ‘Bout You,” “Two Pink Lines” and “Guys Like Me.” His second album, 2009’s Carolina, has produced two more singles: “Love Your Love the Most,” his first Top Ten hit, and “Hell on the Heart.”  Eric is also one of our Endorsed artists and uses our Delrin standard 1.00mm. However this week he ordered some of our Rounded Triangle Pearl Celluloid picks to try out. Our pearl picks are great for promotion since they have a beautiful mother of pearl look to them.  People can see them very easily when thrown off stage. Clayton Custom Pick of the Week!

Here at Clayton, Inc, we have decided to feature a custom pick each week from now forward! We think this is a great way to showcase many of the great picks we make for bands every day.  Keep checking in each week to see a new featured pick and band from us.

This week we selected a pick we made for the Nancy Kenyon Band.  We loved how colorful and detailed this pick turned out on our white delrin .80mm material. It is a great example that shows what amazing detail and color we can produce onto a guitar pick.  We also enhanced this pick by using glossy ink to really make the graphic “pop” on the pick. We had a great time learning more about Nancy Kenyon and her high energy female country style.   She has been doing acoustic style shows for over 15 years! Now within the past few years she has a full band and is starting to do big venues. Her next notable show will be at Jillian’s in Albany, NY, which will be an after party for Carrie Underwood’s Albany concert.  It begins at 11pm if any of you are interested in seeing this amazing band!
