Pick Collecting

Pick of the Week – Bret Michaels

So pretty much everyone knows who Bret Michaels is.  If for some reason you don’t, he is the guy who is practically everwhere you look! He started his career as the lead singer of the metal band Poisen. He also starred in the hit shows, Rock of Love with Bret Michaels , its sequels, and was the winning contestant on NBC’s reality show Celebrity Apprentice 3.  He is also known for his signature bandanna.  Bret is an endorsed artist here at Clayton.  We have done a couple different picks for him, which are shown below.  Also below is a picture of him on stage using our picks. Currently Bret has a new show on VH1 called Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It., which is on Monday nights at 10/9 central, and repeats countless times a day on VH1. If you have not seen it yet please click this link to see a full episode of his amazing new reality show: http://www.vh1.com/shows/bret_michaels_life_as_i_know_it/series.jhtml Bret is also currently touring right now on his ROSES & THORNS TOUR. Cover Art

Are you wanting to design some custom picks, but don’t know what to put on them? If you have recorded an album of your music, simply putting your album art on your guitar pick can be a great option! Shown in the images below are examples of some picks that have album artwork on the front side of the pick. As you can see, they have turned out wonderfully. They all have a lot of color and detail, but it all shows up well on the pick. These can be a great give-away for fans too! All of these designs were put on our acetal pick material. Acetal is semi-transparent white, and is the best material for complex art like the album art show in this image, and is also great for photos. Acetal is known for being a high-grade, professional pick material that is resistant to slipping, so your cover art picks will also be great to play with! Design your custom guitar picks using album artwork today at www.claytocustom.com!

Pick of the Week – Ian Lee

This week is a nice full color imprint on our white pearl celluloid.  Pearl Celluloid is a great choice for your custom picks. Especially if you are looking for a great promotional pick that will get peoples attention!  Ian Lee has a solo project rather than a band and is located in Montreal Canada.  His genre is English and French Pop Rock. His  single ”La fin du monde” went to #1 of the ADISQ  Rock Billboard in 2009, which is amazing.  Also he has a new record that came out in stores and itunes on nov 9th. The new single ”Ta dependance” can be heard on radios throughout canada as well as satellite radio. His English album ”Crash” with the hit ”fallen” from 2007 is already on sale on iTunes. To find out more details on Ian Lee, make sure to check out his website at: http://www.ian-lee.com/

Teardrop Picks

This week, we wanted to draw some attention to our custom teardrop shaped picks. Many of our custom pick materials are available in three different shapes; rounded triangle, standard, and small teardrop. We often have customers request picks that are best for playing jazz music, and teardrop should be the first choice!  The small size offers a quick response when playing, and the slightly rounded tip will provide a warm tone. We have this shape available in a variety of materials, including ultem, acetal and colored delrin (several gauges available as well). Despite the smaller size of the teardrop shaped picks, we have had some great designs submitted to go on the picks. Shown here are examples of small teardrop custom designs on each of the materials offered. Left to right in the image, the materials are acetal, ultem and orange colored delrin. Design your teardrop pick today at www.claytoncsutom.com!

Pick of the Week – The Blue Tape

This week we have a neat looking pick on our Acetal material.  Acetal is our most popular material, here at Clayton, Inc..  It is know for its great warm sound and it is very, very durable.  The Blue Tape is an original rock/pop/electro band from Switzerland. They currently have an Album out called “Heaven in Tears”.  Make sure to check out their video below and check out their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thebluetapemusic.

Pick of the Week – Deadbeat Darling

This is a great logo on a great pick! This simple, yet creative logo looks so nice on our Acetal guitar pick. Below is a description all about Deadbeat Darling. “Equal parts mischief and bliss, eloquence and irreverence, Deadbeat Darling is a New York City-based rock band whose music shimmers with hints of dub and electronica, and has thus far inspired a rabid and eclectic  fanbase solely upon word of mouth. They released their debut full length album “Weight of Wandering”during the Summer of 2009, followed by a sold out show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City and a run of album release shows throughout Texas and the Midwest…” To find out more about this band visit their website.  Also make sure to check out their creative video below.

Pick of the Week – Hourcast

This week we have a nice Acetal Rounded Triangle.  We love how the band Hourcast designed this pick. It looks just like their website! It has nice deep dark colors of black and red with a blue undertone. Hourcast is a rock band out of Boston.  They just released their new album Dystopia, and are currently on tour throughout the nation. To find out if they will be in a city near you visit their tour itenerary.

Double the fun!

Sometimes, there just isn’t enough space on one side of a guitar pick to put everything you want on it, especially since guitar picks are so small! This is why we offer the double-sided printing option for most of our guitar picks. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Shown in these images are examples of double-sided guitar pick designs. The blue design is on our acetal material pick, and the customer chose to just duplicate the same design on both sides of the pick. The green design was done on acetal material as well, with a band logo on one side and a signature on the other. This is an awesome idea, because then you can order picks for several band members with the band logo on one side, but different signatures for different musicians on the back side. We don’t always recommend double-sided printing for our acetal picks since they are semi-transparent, but on both of these picks, the designs came out really well. The red design is for a wedding pick, and it is on our white pearl material. Double-sided printing is perfect for weddings, because you can have a graphic on one side of the pick, and the names of the couple and date of the wedding on the other side. To utilize the double-sided printing option, all you have to do is access our guitar pick designer at www.claytoncustom.com. Once you choose the pick material you would like, the interface will list your guitar pick options. If you mark the bubble for two-sided printing, you get twice the design space!

Pick of the Week – Sixteen Cities

This week we have an awesome White Delrin Guitar pick, with full color imprinting.  The bright colors of this graphic, look really sharp on this pick. Sixteen Cities is a really amazing pop-rock band from Portland, OR.  Not too far away from us here in Talent, OR.  This band, just recently had their album “Pray You Through” featured on a recent episode of the popular WB show “One Tree Hill”.  They are currently on tour with the band Remedy Drive, and will be touring all over the South and Midwest.  If you are in any of those areas, make sure to check out their tour schedule.  For more information on this band visit their website at: www.sixteencities.com or check them out on their Facebook page.

Themed Picks

Sometimes, one type of custom pick just isn’t enough. Steve Clayton, Inc. customers often choose to order several different varieties of custom picks with the same, or similar, designs.  Shown in this image are examples of guitar picks that have been ordered in sets so that there was not a limitation of one pick type. The first set of picks in the image has three different animation designs, printed in different colors on white pearl, ultem and orange delrin picks. They customer even tried different shapes…using standard and small teardrop. The second set is a great example for advertising because they used the same face with different hairstyles on different colors of our colored delrin picks. The third set was done on our red delrin and ultem picks which look really nice together because of the color continuity. For the fourth set of picks, the customer submitted a cute autumn leaf design and had it done on our green and orange delrin picks, which are perfect for the fall season! Themed picks can also be a great option for a band, because then each band member can choose the pick material, gauge, and shape that he or she wants and  have the same logo on all of the picks. Or, you can get the same pick with the band logo, and have different band member names on each set. So, don’t limit yourself to just one type of custom guitar pick…order several! We can always give you a combined shipping for your orders as well 😉 Happy desigining! www.claytoncustom.com

Pick of the Week – Dirty Dan’s Cool Rockin’ Daddies

This week we have a very colorful pearl pick by Dirty Dan’s Cool Rockin’ Daddies! The colors are so vibrant and pretty on this pick, it was a sure pick for our Pick of the Week! You have to check out their website at: http://www.dirtydanbuck.com/ The first thing you see is their logo (like their pick) creativly placed.  Then you have gotta love their slogan “They’re old, they’re angry, and they’ll rock your ass off!” Ha! Pretty funny :).  Anyway, Dirty Dan Buck, the band frontliner, used to be  in a band called The Boyzz from Illinoizz, which was a late 1970’s band.  They were very successful and have worked with tons of huge artists including Areosmith and Meatloaf. Dirty Dan is now with his new band “Cool Rockin’ Daddies” which features Tadd King (quite the guitarist!) playing guitar, Joe Gagliardo playing bass, Jimmi Perrino on keyboard, and Scott Kelly on drums.  They perform at festivals and concerts throughout the region, and feature a hard rocking’ R&B experience. They recently played on the top of a 166 ft river boat on the Illinois River in Seneca, IL for the club H2O. I put a picture below of them on the boat. Looks like they had a great time.  They also had a picture of how they sell the guitar picks on their Facebook. page. They are making amazing earrings out them to sell at concerts.  So neat! The picks really make amazing earrings.

Pick of the Week – Sinister Ego

This week we have a heavy Rounded Triangle Acetal Pick with a one color imprint. The great thing about Acetal is that it looks nice, and plays even better! This pick was printed by the band Sinister Ego.  Their bio from their website is below:

“SINISTER EGO is a creative mixing of the talents of Jeff “Necro” formerly of Casket Snatch, Jason “DOA” formerly of Corpsescrew, Adrian “A J Shotgun Vegas” formerly of DV8, with Brandon “Raven” on bass, and Jason “Hardcore” on drums. The five rockers put their heads together to compile a sound of music like none other. A little metal, and little punk and some old fashioned rock make Sinister Ego a band for all music lovers. Their first song “Lethal”, produced by SER Studios in Chandler, is a testament to their talents and originality. Mixing memorable catchy vocals, screaming guitars, and ingenious explosive drumming with influences like Danzig, Pantera, Metallica, Motley Crue, and Black Sabbath, they’ve created a unique sound for all audiences to enjoy.”

It is great to see such simple yet stylized guitar pick!.  We also like how the pick matches with the bands overall look.  Make sure to check out their website at: http://www.sinisterego.com/ They have tons of their music on their site that you can download the MP3 of. Very cool!

Pick of the Week – Johnny Deluxe

This week we have selected a guitar pick on our Acetal material. We liked how it used a neon yellow color, with a chalky black.  Johnny Deluxe is a Danish band. They a really nice website at: http://www.johnnydeluxe.dk , which is all in Danish.  They have quite the creative video on his site called Flex. The music is very catchy and has a very european vibe to it. The picks were ordered by lead singer Noam Halby.  They are a Danish band that was formed in London. The band took part in KarriereKanonen run by Danish radio station P3 in 2003, and released the EP Elskovspony in November of the same year. In January 2004, the group signed a contract with Copenhagen Records and subsequently released their debut album, Johnny Deluxe on 24 May 2004. Fantastic Full Bleeds!

We wanted to show off a few of the really cool designs that customers have created recently for custom guitar picks. These are customers who did not hold back when designing their picks; they have a lot of color and detail and they all came out great on our picks! These customers all chose the “full bleed” option for their guitar picks. This means that, instead of having a small border around the artwork, the design will bleed right to the edge of the pick. It is a little bit more expensive to choose this option for custom picks, but it is well worth it to have designs that are as awesome as these. Most of our pick materials include the overbleed option. The pick materials shown here are white delrin (the middle pick) and acetal (the two outside picks). These materials are great for full bleed because they also allow for full color designs, so you can let your imagination run wild. Design your custom guitar pick on our custom design site today, and try out the Full Bleed option!

The Beauty of Pearls

Here at Clayton, we offer three different white picks for custom design, including white delrin, acetal, and white pearl. If you are looking for a classy pick that is great for playing, or for use as a promotional tool, white pearl is optimal. Our white pearl picks have glossy finish, and they are marbleized, so they automatically have the “upscale look.” White pearls can be great with either single or full color designs, as shown in the image below. White pearl picks are also very popular for weddings, since they look nice and can support a design with any color in it. Our white pearl picks are available in six gauges ranging from a very thin .38 to an extra heavy 1.26. There are also two different shapes available for white pearl picks; standard (left pick in photo) and rounded triangle  (right pick in photo). Design your white pearl pick on our custom website today!

Pick of the Week – The Fabulous Po’ Boys:

This week we are featuring a guitar pick that is from one of our endorsed bands, The Fabulous Po’ Boys! They are a bluesy/rootsy/pop rock blend of music from artist like The Beatles, The Byrds, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffett and more. Their band consists of members Warren Payne and Ed Johnson. They have been together since 1991 and have played all around the country. I grabbed the really funny story about how their band was formed from their website: “The band essentially started out as a dare. While chewing a rubber chicken dinner at a regional advertising convention in Denver, Warren and Ed were just two more ad execs in the room suffering through, what can only be described as, mannequins pretending to be a band. Bad songs, bad hair, bad clothes, no life and an empty dance floor. While having really only shared a few beers by a pool deck at another ad conference in Nashville just six months before, Warren and Ed at least knew one another were from Seattle and had spent some time earning their lunch money in front of a microphone with a guitar. Warren approached Ed (who was on his third beer, ignoring the show and wondering what the hell Turkey Chop was) and had the following proposition; “Janet (conference organizer and dear friend of the Po’ Boys) says if we want, we can take over for the band when they go on a break. They said it’s okay, and Steve (a media lawyer from Minneapolis) is up for playing drums.”
Ed replied, “Dude, we’re not even a band.”
“Do you know Louie, Louie?” asked Warren.
“Yeah,” said Ed skeptically.
“Twist and Shout?”

“Yeah.”
“Johnny B. Goode?”
“Yeah.”
“There you go. Three songs right there. We’ll get up, play, have some laughs and we’re done.”
Of course, they played for an hour.
The dance floor was packed; the crowd kept yelling out numbers that the intrepid trio happened to know and with everyone properly lubed, the band played on. The band that had been usurped didn’t seem to mind…they were getting paid anyway. Those guys had no soul at all. What kind of musician gives up his stage?

After the “gig” another conference organizer looking to set up entertainment at a national conference scheduled for Portland, Oregon the following spring asked if the boys were available to play the big after-party.
Again, replied Ed, “We’re not even a band.” (Did that stop us before?)”

Their pick is printed on our pearl celluloid. We love how the little palm tree looks on the pearl picks! Please make sure to visit their website at: http://www.fabulouspoboys.com/

Pick of the Week – JamiSun

This week we have a full color sun graphic on our Acetal Rounded Triangle picks. Very cool!  This was created by JamiSun, who is a Charleston guitarist/singer/songwriter.  He is pretty much booked with gigs everyday in his area, which is very impressive. His styles range from John Mayer to Pantera.  He has a great website at: http://www.JamiSun.com/
So make sure to check it out. Also if you live in the Charleston area, check out his schedule so you can go listen to his amazing music!

Shape Shift

The most popular choice for custom guitar picks is, hands down, our standard shape picks. But some guitarists prefer our rounded triangle picks. These are oversized shaped picks, with equilateral sides. Many guitar players like the larger size of these picks because they are easier to hold on to. This shape is available in a few of our different pick materials. We have rounded triangle in our colored delrin, acetal, ultem, colored pearl and white pearl material. Many designers also like to choose this shape simply for the fact that a rounded triangle pick will allow for more design space. Shown here are examples of designs that came out really well and were well-suited for this pick shape. So, if you would like to try something new, design your rounded triangle pick today at www.claytoncustom.com.

Pick of the Week – Hot Neon Magic

This is a bright one! Neon Yellow and Pink are the colors on this guitar pick! Wow is it bright! Check out their website at: http://www.hotneonmagic.com/

I love the way the band dresses, and I even love their band bio “Relive the skinny ties, spandex and synthesizers with Vermont’s premier 1980s cover band. Rock out to hours of totally awesome tunes from when MTV was king” It is so great to see such a neat 80’s cover band.  We also love how their guitar pick really gets the message across about who their band is! Also check them out on facebook at:

http://www.facebook.com/hotneonmagic

Picture Yourself!

Did you know that Clayton can customize guitar picks using full color photos? We can!! Shown here are some examples of custom guitar pick designs submitted by our customers who chose to use photos of themselves to customize their picks. We can do full color or greyscale photos on any of our white material picks. In this photo, all three white pick materials that we offer for customization are represented; white pearl, white delrin, and acetal (left to right). The photo on the far left was a perfect match for our white pearl picks, because it has water in the background and the marbleized material added the perfect effect. The photo in the middle was converted to greyscale for a classic look, and the photo on the right looks fantastic on our acetal material. Custom guitar picks with personal photos on them can be a great promotional item for solo artists or bands. Photos can also be perfect for wedding guitar picks! Upload your photo into our custom design interface today at www.claytoncustom.com.

Brown is the new Black!

Looking to add some variety and warmth to your custom guitar picks? Try switching your design color to brown! Lately we have noticed some very nice brown designs being submitted by our customers, and we wanted to show them off. If you are creating a custom design for our colored picks, you are limited to using black only, but if you are working with any of our white picks, or our ultems, you are open to a whole new set of color choices! Shown in the image here are a white delrin pick, an acetal pick, an ultem pick, and another acetal (left to right). The design on the white delrin is a full color, full bleed design, which means that the design runs all the way to the edge of the pick. The acetal picks represent both a full color and single color design. The ultem is a great example of how a brown design can look great against the tan color, since ultems may have black, red, and/or brown printed on them. So, if you are thinking that black is out and brown is in, try your custom design today at www.claytoncustom.com!

Pick of the Week – Bleu

This week we have another pick on our Acetal material! This one is by a artist named Bleu. His is an accomplished musician and his song “Somebody Else” is featured on the “Spider-Man” (the first one)  movie sound track. That is quite impressive! To find out more about him visit his social networking sites:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bleu/46728493292?v=info
http://www.myspace.com/loudlion

The picks were actually ordered as a birthday gift for him. His crew came up with a very unique way in which to present them to him.  We thought it was such a great idea! Those Clayton picks sure look yummy! 🙂

Brighten up!

Are you looking for a bright pick that will catch people’s attention? Or maybe you just want a very specific color for your guitar picks? Give  our colored pearls a try!  We offer colored delrin custom guitar picks, but sometimes we find that customers are looking for a very specific color that is not available in delrin. Also, the colors of the delrins are dictated by the gauges (for example, red = .5mm gauge), but sometimes someone is looking for a color of pick in a different gauge than the one offered for colored delrin. This is when we recommend the colored pearls because they come in a very wide variety of colors, and several gauges. For our colored pearl picks, we offer .3, .5, .63, .8, 1, 1.26, and we have both standard and rounded triangle shapes. Colored pearls make great wedding picks, because they can be matched to the color scheme of the wedding, and they have a classy, marbleized look. Design your custom colored pearls today…but don’t forget to make sure that your design is in black ink only!! Custom Design Site.

Pick of the Week – G. Kishore Carey

This week we have a beautiful Nature Guitar Pick on our Acetal material by the artist G. Kishore Carey.  He is a worship artist, and has a recent album out titled “Contagious.” If you visit his website you can learn more about him and even purchase his music from itunes.   Below is his bio”

“Kishore is able to engage and encourage congregations of all sizes to give their hearts and spirt to God in worship. From juvenile detention centers to Walter Reed Army Medical Center and in many church sanctuaries in the Greater Washington D.C. area and beyond, Kishore has been blessed to minister in all types of venues. Starting in high school and working continually at craft and art, Kishore is writing songs with an honesty and raw-ness that betrays his Christian cultural upbringing and exposes a heart that seeks to honor God in word and deed.”
It is great to hear how someone uses music to inspire and help others!

Clayton Color

Are you looking to design a custom guitar pick, and you have a very specific color in mind? We want you to know that if you are designing a Clayton custom pick, and your choice of pick material is white, you are able to choose single color printing and have any color you want on your custom guitar picks! Shown here are the three types of white guitar picks that we offer, which include white delrin, acetal, and white pearl. Most customers who are choosing a single color design will pick black, but these are examples of customers who wanted another color for the print, and the pricing is the same! To have this option, all you have to do is choose “one color” for the print color options in our custom design page, and then click on the color box to choose which color you want for the print. If you use text in your custom pick design, the text will automatically be the color that you choose. If you have a graphic, the Clayton team will convert it to the color that you want! This can be an especially great option for wedding picks. Sometimes, the colors of picks that we offer do not match exact wedding colors. So, instead, you can choose a white pick and have your design printed in a color that matches the wedding scheme perfectly! Design your custom pick today at www.claytoncustom.com

Support Your Nation with Custom Picks!

Check out these great pick designs from Clayton customers who want to use custom picks to support their nationality! Clayton is proud to say that we send our guitar accessories to customers all over the world, and these designs prove it! We think that using a symbol of a country, such as a flag or a tagline, is a great way to add that personal touch to custom guitar picks. There are a coupledifferent pick types shown in the image here. The two picks with flag designs on them (Spain and the United Kingdom) are both white delrin picks, which are great for showing off the bright colors of the flags. The middle pick, which says “Rock in France” is a white pearl pick, which is appropriate for the more subdued colors of this design. Both of the customers who created the flag designs used the full bleed option in the pick designer, so that the artwork was able to spread all the way to the edge of the pick. Thank you to those who submitted these designs, we had fun producing them! If you are interested in designing a custom pick that shows your national pride, visit www.clatyoncustom.com today!

Pick of the Week – Lynyrd Skynyrd

This week is a pick by the very famous band Lynrd Skynyrd. This pick is a full bleed on our Acetal Rounded Triangle .80mm guitar picks. It turned out really amazing! Almost everyone knows this bands songs. If you were to turn the radio to classic rock you are bound to hear their popular hits “Sweet Home Alabama” or “Free Bird.”  The Lynyrd Skynyrd band is in the rock’n roll hall of fame as they have sold millions of albums.  Robert Kearns, the current bassist asked us to put together his artwork and we place it on his acetal rounded triangle picks.  We think the artwork came out great!  Below are some links to hear more about this classic American band:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynyrd_Skynyrd
http://www.lynyrdskynyrd.com/

Innovative Pick!

Sometimes at Clayton, Inc., we get a custom pick design that comes out so well, we just want to show it off! Here is an example of one of these designs. This design is for a company called Innovative Knowledge, and we love the color scheme of the artwork. On the front of the pick is the company name with the logo that they use, and on the back is a two-word description of the company (educational software), and the slogan that ties the company with these guitar picks: “It Rocks.” This is a perfect example of how a non-music related business can still effectively use guitar picks as a promotional item. They also did a great job at including the information about the company that they wanted without filling up the guitar pick with too much tiny text. This design was placed on our white delrin picks, which was a perfect choice. The bright white of the white delrin material is best for making bright colors, such as those in this design, really pop out. Delrin is also recommended over acetal picks if the design is two sided, because the white delrins do not have any transparency. White delrin picks are available in three gauges: .8, 1, and 1.26mm. They are only available in standard shape, but they can have single or full color printing. Show off your awesome design skills by working with our custom design interface at www.claytoncustom.com.

Pick of the Week – Lethal Saint

This week we selected a Pearl pick on our Rounded Triangle material, by the band Lethal Saint. The band plays what they often refer to as Old School Heavy Metal. They formed in 2006 on the island of Cyprus (off the coast of Greece) by the two guitarists (Andreas Kasapis and Christos Papadopoulos) and the drummer (Christi Isseyegh) and after trying out a few singers they finally found exactly the voice they were looking for to represent the band: Andreas Pouyioukas. The most recent addition to the band is Mike Papapavlou, the bassist. A demo was released after the formation of the band in 2006 and was sold out, there was also a series of limited promo copies for the cd in December 2009 which were all sold out by the following concert. The original release of their self – titled album “LethalSaint” came out in March 2010 and ever since they have been answering interviews for metal magazines online, radio shows and so on. The cd is available at www.pitchblackrecords.com . Lethal Saint is looking forward to touring the island and hosting a number of concerts with other Cypriot bands for Summer 2010!
